The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Also saving for a mortgage in london.. Could get one now but waiting for a few things to be in place

Thats kind of what I hinted at, instead of essentially throwing money away put it into something that will give you a return. Save more for your deposit, get your credit rating squeaky clean etc.

Yup that is what I plan to do mate. Cheers homie.

Cured me from GAS

lol Northrup not liking sony gear hmmmm................. never going to happen ..... wonder why................ wait until someone independent gets it... when you are sent gear and have to buy it yourself a massive massive difference

Reading the review he thinks the overall IQ is comparable to Canon and Nikon equivalents. It's just that a man in the desert appreciates water considerably more than the man who lives next to a lake ;)

I'm sure the gm lenses will be brill don't get me wrong but lets be honest for the price they should be lol

"the G-Master 24-70 f/2.8 and the Sony a7R II need each other. You just shouldn’t use one without the other."

Mmmm :)

Do you guys believe Steve Huff?

He seems positive about the GM lens and whilst he may not publish a bad review if he didn't like it he wouldn't review it :D

Best to wait for more reviews and feedback and it's not a lens I'd buy but in my innocence I do think it's looking like it's going to be very good.

I don't doubt it's going to be good, it's just not the next coming of the messiah some would believe it to be.

Great for professionals to have the convenience, but if you are after image quality you could get the 28mm, 35mm, 55mm, 85mm Batis primes for the cost of a 24-70GM

For some people a very good 24-70mm f2.8 is pretty much essential. Maybe more so for someone who's getting paid to shoot in situations where you can't manage with a 35mm prime but it's not a lens that I lust after. I understsnd that it's essential for some but it's not for me, give me a 35mm f2.8 every time :D

Actually just got a Panasonic 12-35mm f2.8 and it seems excellent but it's a fraction of the bulk and weight of the Sony lens and when mounted on the camera the combination counts as compact kit :D

yep couldn't live without my 24-70 but this sonyt needs to go some to beat the current crop....... it sound s promising but they really have hyped it up so it needs to live up to the hype in some ways I do as may encourage other manufactures to release never 24-70s

unless u need it asap id wait abit, im sure all the sony stuff has averaged glowing reviews at the start, then opionion dipping down :/

TBF most gear has, they give equipment to bloggers who are biased because they get discounts and other incentives, they litter the web with their opinion about it being the best thing since whatever..... then the proper reviewers who can actually measure the differences between equipment get them and the hype starts dying down.

I think bloggers have their place but take what they say with a massive pinch of salt.

Plus there may just be people who want to generate traffic to their sites with little snippets such as "GM lens falls apart! Shock. Horror." IMO they have to be ignored just as much as the paid to be a fanboy guys need to be ignored.

Very true.

they charged a stupid amount for the a mount version, so likely it will be more, they normally charge a e mount premium

Probably will be, I was told it will be around the £2199-2299 mark, will have to wait and see when its officially out in May/June.

jesus it will have to be a remarkable lens to beat the current crop of 70-200's fair play

I dunno, while I did love my NIkon 70-200 VR II, I can't see it being all that hard to beat. At close focus distance it was closer to 135mm than 200mm on the long end, CA was quite noticeable, and the edges/corners weren't all that fantastic. Again, I loved it, but I can easily see it being beaten, and it has an RRP in excess of £2000. Obviously it's selling for less than that now, but it's getting a little old. However, it is fair to say that the Canon is a lot cheaper, and from what I hear it's slightly better than the NIkon.

Either way I won't be buying one any time soon (more than happy with the Batis and 70-200mm f4), but tbh £2k is less than I was expecting. As with all camera gear I expect that after the first few months it will settle at a lower price anyway.

How many cushion? The guy has some sort of cushion fetish.

So Sony's introduced a new radio flash system. I've always been happy with the HVL43 for on-camera flash, so hopefully their wireless system is up to snuff too (and unlike other companies, future bodies have the commander built in, not a perpetual overpriced dongle).

On the rare occasion I do OCF I'm happy enough with my dumb triggers but options are always good, especially when native.

I'm sure he has something so insightful to say that he'd rock my entire view of the universe, but after a minute or two he was sending me to sleep and it's not my bed time yet.

Snore fest. Perhaps the alpha guru would like to sum up the video?

the main problem with sony flash is the stupid shoe design

minolta shoe was much better :(
