The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have seen so many diff specs for it I'm not sure what its going to be lol

The rumor site reported that the delay with the 6100 was because the 6000 didn't face enough competition... or something like that. Maybe now that the GX8 and Pen F are out the new Sony will be along soon...

Time will tell.

PS. Forgot... new Fuji too.

Certainly 4K and BSI.
36mp rumour seems a bit high for APSC, would rather 24mp again and even better noise control.
Hope it has a AF joystick or direct selection.

Also the X pro 2 soon, I wouldve thought in APSC land its between Fuji and Sony, M43 obviously Panalympus. In terms of mirrorless only, the A6000 never had much AF competition. Fuji as a system though are strong.

the pen f looks interesting I wouldn't want one personally but I can see why some people would..... wonder what sort of ££££ the a6100 will be ...... £800 ish?

Rather than a new 61000 I'd rather see a good and compact 24mm f1.8 than the current rather large APS-C lens. If there was such a lens I might think seriously about ditching MFT.

yeah the wide native lenses aren't that well catered for tbh... I have canon glass but It is large compared to native

The lenses are good. I have 14mm f2.5, 17mm f1.8, 20mm f1.7, 25mm f1.8 and 45mm f1.8 and all are good the only problems being that the 20mm is ever so slightly slower to focus and can for some strange reason give banding at high ISO.

It is an attractive system, I've used mine a lot and quite a bit with my 50mm macro.

ah your on about the a6000 now aren't u apologises I was on about the a7 fe lenses mate

If only the 5d3 had good Dr

Do you really see a massive real world difference in DR on the 5D3 or are you just taking that from DxO/DPReview? Realistically, any body from any manufacturer will deliver good results every day. Whilst every manufacturer will market their differences as the most important feature ever to sell their kit, I'd expect any good photographer to get the results they need from any combination.

@stevelmx5 I used canon all my life before these I have noticed a huge increase when shooting raw with shadows and highlights etc ...... I learned a way to shoot with canon though ettr and its ok but the a7 series is fab for a guy who loves to fiddle with the raws

Cheers Owen. I used to shoot Canon (40D/5D) before moving to Sony Crop when I took a break from weddings. I agree that the Sony sensors definitely outperform Canon and even saw that on my old NEX5. My question was more aimed at Jonney with regards to his comment about the 5D3 not having good DR and was just raising the question about are we spoiled as photographers now and get hung up on the statistics on paper when in fact it's quite hard not to take a 'good' shot on most combinations now!

I have the 5d3 and can see a massive difference.

I'd say the A6100/7000 is out around March, Sony mangers have a visit planned to the factory which generally happens prior to product releases, also the G Master series is coming :)

ah you were using a tc before ...... these looks spot on.......................

g master ftw lol

Well you have and what ur though??

Initially bigger, heavier, uglier, and worse IQ. IBIS is nice but I mostly shoot street so 1/250 is my default. Maybe it will grow on me, I've not shot much with it outside the house so far.

Worse IQ why that? Cos it smaller? I find mine brilliant quality

The A7R files just look smoother and retain more detail at high ISO. It's subjective really and by no means conclusive, I could well come back in a week and profess how great the A7 II is. My style is street, mostly at night, so I notice these things.

Keep working with it you will like it soon.

I'm sure you're right, I'm just interested to see what other think, probably in an attempt to assuage buyers remorse. Generally I avoid photography forums and review sites :).

The a7r sensor is better than the a7/ii sensor, you aren't seeing things ;)

Oh, as an aside A7R vs RX1R size wise... Hardly anything in it. A7 II vs RX1R.... Huge! If say 50% in volume and weight... maybe Sony made the II versions obese on purpose ;)

I did feel (although I couldn't 100% confirm) shutter shock on the A7R. It just felt like the camera was jerking in my hands.

TBH I think the best fit for for me is the A7R II, aside from the size I can't see how there could be an upgrade from that beast.

I'm not writing off the A7 II, but it isn't instant love like the A7R. That gave me a huge jump in IQ over m4/3 and Fuji X... in a package that's frankly comparable to the Olympus M5 and SMALLER THAN MY OM10!

I'm very fickle, so we'll see.

Yeah, the size is one of the reasons I like my a7. You could get the same iq as your a7ii from the original a7, no shutter shock and phase detect over the a7r, doesnt sound like you need ibis tbh. Could be a good bet for you.

A7r. I'm on the lookout for one. Am really enjoying the form factor of the a7 since I re-acquired one. So much so that I may part ways with my a7rii and a lens or two...which would free up some funds for a d750.
