The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Anyone use any crop lenses on a7 ? I just bought a 60mm sigma dn to play with apparently they cover the first sensor pretty well will post results up when I get it....

you could remove the rear baffle to extend the image circle, you should just get tiny bit of black in corners then

cheers @pingu666 is aw that somewhere else I think I will give it a go when I get it later :-) I have shot a few crop shots with a 50mm 1.8 and it looked spot on for a 10. something mp image

Had also considered similar for an even more portable option on a7rii. Bringing it down to "only" 18 mp ;)

The 60mm will be fine in crop mode, hes talking about using it in FF mode with vignette.

just arrived initial reaction is boy for the money it is a really sharp lens quite impressive given the size on ff obv is vignette but might try with the baffle out at some point ....... in crop mode at 10 something mp looks awesome tbh

You looking at manual or AF lenses?
I use Minolta Rokkor manual lenses via a Novoflex adapter but anything from 28mm and up works on a £10 Nex adapter :D

Ive used Pixel Kings. Work fine. But you have to also buy the hotshoe adapter. Total cost about £130.

Thanks, ill have a look. The pocket wizard may be good as my meter has the trigger built in too. I want to buy something that's gonna last and do all i want. Would like to have remote power control too, is that possible?

The Nissin Di700a + Air 1 allows remote control of the flashes [emoji106]

Hey folks,

do any of you use clear filters on your lenses for protection etc?
I am currently using B+W Nano XS-Pro clear filters on my lenses but having thoughts about ditching them.
Any comments?

I used to use filters on all of my lenses back when I had a DSLR but since going mirrorless I haven't bothered and I've had zero incidents, zero damage, despite shooting in mildly dangerous to kit locations such as on the beach.

you got the best filter imo, i feel less anxious with a filter on so i use em, i have scratched a old lens i think which didnt have a filter, soft glass :( new lenses are much more robust though. i dont think it makes much odds with iq if your using b w mrc / nano filters, doubt u could tell the difference

No, I never saw any image quality issues when using a protection filter... the only thing you have to watch is maybe when shooting with bright lights in the frame but other than that, no problem :D

Yippe! :)

I will stick with B+W clear filters as I've never had any issues with them to date.

I'm glad that they're upping production but even so, 2 to 3 months isn't all that bad. I once waited 18 months for a Porsche.

Ok- so I have a Tamron 150-600 Canon mount that I've put on my a7rii via metabones iv. I'm Not getting any autofocus. When trying to select auto focus settings on the camera, the camera isn't giving me the option to take it out of manual focus.
While I wasn't expecting to get lighting fast auto focus with this combo, I understood that I should at least get some auto focus.
Any suggestions to what I may have missed in the set up process?
Thanks

got no idea why its not helpful I'm afraid all I can tell u while it isn't brill it does work on a sigma 150-600 sport

Not all lenses will be compatible. You need to check the metabones site and your firmware.

Both lenses I've tried today are listed as compatible. Camera and adapter firmware are up to date.

Interestingly I've just tried both lenses with the fotodiox adapter. The Tamron lens finds focus around 150-200 then hunts. The 85mm also works here and there.

When I use the metabones neither work at all. It's not even attempting to autofocus or hunt. Also the "AF system" option on the menu where you can change between phase and contrast is grayed out. So I have a £250 dumb adapter.

have u tried it with any other lenses? And which 85mm is it?

85mm 1.8
Have only tried with these two as don't have a load of canon glass (used to shoot Nikon- starting to miss it!!).

Odd that the fotodiox is "working" and this isn't.

Is there a setting in the Sony where you can shoot without lens or similar??? I used to use it on Fuji's Xpro ,XT1, but that was for MF only, there maybe further settings on the Sony?

Release w/o lens? Ive tried that with no joy.

Doh!. It was that setting I meant. I have been using a D750 for the last sixteen months and have forgot the Fuji settings.

I know that some of the Tamron lenses wont focus using the Nikon FT1 adapter when using the V1 type of cameras. Maybe worth giving Tamron a call or Metabones??

@addicknchips somethings not right mate my 85mm 1.8 works well :-( have you tried taking the metabones off the body and reattaching it ( I did this when my sigma art failed to work once and it hasn't done it since)

I thinking it's probably something I've done wrong. But have gone through the menu system thoroughly, taken the lens off, taken the the adapter off etc. Running out of ideas :((

No I always use the hood for protection. Adding extra glass can give issues - I had a back focus problem on a Canon 1D3 / 24-70 L - after lots of trials and tribulations it turned out to be the filter - it was an expensive UV filter can't remember the name because 'protection' filters fell out of my vocabulary at that point.;-)

that's really weird @addicknchips I'm not sure what it could be :-( I have a few e mount lenses now and alter and change between the canon metabones never had a prob just a guess but sounds like contact isn't being made right somewhere if you cant select af

Also my local Jessops don't stock the adapters - so I can't pop in and try another to see if it's the adapter or camera that is the issue.

Something defo not right mate mine flicks between af and my easily no hassle .... the only thing to try us the af Mf switch on body above the ok button try flicking at back and forward if that doesn't the metabones might have a fault :-(

Release without lens + dumb adapter and Nikon lens is the combo I use and it works fine. Not sure why it wouldn't.
