The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Enjoying using the A7ii but I've decided to pass up on investing in Canon EF lenses and am selling on the Metabones adaptor, the only focal ranges I was seriously considering covering with Canon were ultra-wide and perhaps a telephoto (as the 70-200 FE is quite pricey) but given that the size of the Canon 16-35 f4 I'm going to pass on that, I do have to say though that I think the capability to use EF glass on these things is fantastic if you already have some Canon kit.

I've ordered a Loxia 35 f2 as I never liked the 35/2.8 and as much as I'm sure I'd love the 35 f1.4 I can't see myself lugging it around so a nice MF Zeiss will do nicely!

A little torn about the wide end, I really, really, really like the look of the Loxia 21 f2.8 especially as at wide angle I tend to be on a tripod so manual focus isn't a drama, it also looks like it has super IQ from the examples online, that said a used 16-35/4 is only around £600-650 so its around £300 less than Loxia 21 (I have one one pre-order with a 10% discount!)

My aims with investing in the A7ii is really for me to enjoy my photography more and focus more on the actual shooting instead of kit, that's one of the reasons I've been looking at the manual focus Loxia's, I always feel a little more involved in the image process when you have to actually focus the lens - it also helps that the Loxia's are very compact which will help me carry them!

How much you wanting for it? I've just put the metabones iv T in my basket at digrev as they have it in the sale for £289

I would do if I could get the bloody thing to link properly! lol

the t has a different anti reflective coating to stop reflections no autofocus benefits though defo not a game changing difference

The flare when using the fotodiox was really noticeable. That and the fact it didn't actually work were pretty annoying.

Im not a huge fan of peaking because its hit and miss unless youre at about f2-f2.8, takes just as long for me to magnify and get it where I want it.
I think it's accurate for 35mm upwards but anything lower and it's a hit and miss. Trick is to reduce the peaking levels to low and it work fine after

In what way didn't yours work ? was it the pro version or the cheaper none aperture version ?
I used one all yesterday and it was fine on the A7RII
On the A7II i had really severe blurring, i had to update firmware to 2.0 and factory reset it and it all came good

I've only used it on one lens. The macro 100mm L lens. It couldn't find focus and would hunt without ever locking. Not a big issue as I'm happy to manual focus with macro, but it didn't fill me with confidence to use with other lenses. I was also noticing heavy flare creeping in.
It's the pro version.

mmm that's weird i also used a 105mm Sigma and it was fine.

the A7II had this effect, When i focused it, it looked in focus but soon as i pulled the shutter it took picture and was all blurred, i couldn't get a sharp photo at all. I reset the A7II and re initialised it and its all good now, the A7RII Firmware 3 worked fine across them all.

I'm pretty sure its a setting on the A7s that throws it off, try a reset and initialise her again, it may work then.

Dear Rizvan,

Thank you for your inquiry to ZEISS.

There is a high demand for these lenses and we are currently filling dealer orders that were placed in late September and October. We estimate orders placed in December will be shipped by the end of January or middle of February, hopefully a little sooner.
Thank you for your patience.

Please talk to your dealer, when he has ordered your lens.

For further details, please do not hesitate to contact us!

Mit freundlichen Grüßen/ With best regards

Perhaps I had a shoddy copy. Either way, it's going back and I have a metabones on the way.

Just to thank those who gave advice on using a Canon fit flashgun on a Sony -7R2 .
I eventually went for a Yongnuo 560 Mk4 flashgun + Yongnuo 560 Tx. Transmitter - as these were both including on a great buy both deal on Amazon.
Both work well on the Canon 7D mk2 and on the Sony A7R2.

Does anybody have any experience with the Haenel Captur triggers?

@pastyman to trigger a flash or strobe?

Strobes mainly, Lencarta Safari's. But could do with adding flashes too as kickers etc. Looking for HSS aswell, I have the Nissin 700 but it's not that good at filling a 1.2mtr octabox.

A lot of people use the pixel king system I haven't personally ...I would think pocket wizard should work also

Ive used Pixel Kings. Work fine. But you have to also buy the hotshoe adapter. Total cost about £130.

It's considered by some to be one of the "classic" focal lengths. Why is another matter :D

I used to have a Sigma 20mm f1.8 and it was pretty good... I'm still stuck on the 35mm f2.8 when I use my camera which isn't as often as I'd like, but if going for a full kit I'd probably be interested in a 28 and a 18 or 20mm. 14 or 16 is a bit too wide for me to get more than very occasional use out of and to be honest I think I'd use a wide zoom covering 14, 16 and 18 more than I'd use any of those as primes.

I hope there is some new fast zooms int he fe range like a 24-70 2.8 that you don't need to remortgage the house for lol

Zeiss will probably do a 135mm too.
I'm waiting for mine to arrive [emoji7][emoji85]

135mm would be good............... would love a decent 2.8 long lens also

Thinking of getting one as a back up to my a7rii.
That shutter sound though..
I think you might be better off with the A7/A7II instead of the A7R due to the better phase-detect AF.
I would love a A7R II next to replace my current A7 but need to save up.....

yep much better off with a7ii mate if a backup to a7rii I tried original a7r ... a7ii etc is at least 75% quicker to focus imho

Yeah I noticed commented on thread that it is a bargain since firmware 2.0 imho is perfect for me ( also own a7rii for high mp and big big prints)
