on the a7 1 series getting uncompressed raw, probably unlikely as sony want u to buy the new models, and they dont care a whole lot about existing customers, look at what they done for A mount :/

But seriously, Ive been a long time Sony supporter and in the past they released models rather than fix existing, lets hope things are changing, they listened about the RAW, but then when youre trying to sell a £2600 camera you should. Wait and see I guess.

yep, first one in 17 months, dont think theres been a new sony A lens for 3 years or more, i mean opticaly new, not just refreshed ssm motor and coatings.

Er... no. I'm no ones "fan boy" and neither am I a serial knocker as you seem to be in thread after thread but to be fair you don't seem to be just a Sony knocker as I've seen you do the same in other threads, and be critised for it by others equally tired of it.

Maybe you're just a glass half empty guy and I can understand that but why you feel the need to continually and constantly snipe I just don't know.

As I've said before I have a technical background and I can be very critical but I also try to keep a foot in the real world and try and keep the bigger picture in view. No system is perfect, they all have plus and minus points and what we have to do is make a judgement based on what's best for us.

Once you work out what's best for you maybe you'll be a bit of a happier presence on line :D

If they do an update for my A7 I will almost certainly give it a go but from what I've read on line I'm pretty sure that for me it'll be a waste of time so I wont lose any sleep if they don't do it.

A serial knocker? I think you need to review all your previous posts. What gives you the right to be critical and negative about cameras/systems youve never even used? Not sure who you think you are. At least I have used the cameras so understand the positives and negatives of each, I don't need to be precious about any camera.

Once you've used the cameras, AF lenses and can make accurate comparisons of current gen cameras then your negative comments may become understandable. I think you like to dish it out but hate taking it and if you dont like my posts please hit ignore or dont reply, because then we can stop this dance of you calling me negative and me calling you a hypocrite.

Shall we get back on topic now weve both had our say?

I really don't get the point of one brand user bashing another(s) to me it isn't conducive to continue with a thread.

As early as the second post some assh... wades in with a bitch about the Leica. The assh... is a Sony user bashing the Leica "fanboys"

What is the point? Cognitive Dissonance perhaps? - Feeble minds having to always justify why they made / make the choices they make and foisting it on the world like they are the big cheese.

And yet they don't see themselves as the sad b*st*rds they are.

Of course I'm not suggesting that anything 'quite' like that goes on here after all we are / were or might be possible Sony users sharing our experiences good or bad ;)

It's aimed at everybody and nobody.
I'm just having my say generically to try to get something constructive out of this thread ongoing.
Sure I could throw my toys out of the pram and go elsewhere for discussion on Sony Alpha but thought to just leave and not try to 'suggest' we remain constructive and informative with reasoned discussion would not be helpful. I admit to having several rants on here. Mea Culpa!

Actually I wasn't really expecting any response just the naieve hope that reason might prevail.

Like I said, there are some things Alan and I wont agree on and some we do, we have a moan then get back to business. Just the way it is. :D

Im pretty sure most people that post in here are currently or have been Sony E/A users, when I post its not a case of being brand elitist or whatever, its a case of pros, cons and comparisons and those that specifically ask about X vs Y camera. Ive used all the cameras that I make a direct comparison of and each interests me in various ways or I wouldnt consider / discuss them.

Oh! So it seems like the lea4 adapter will be perfect for me to use the sony Sam 50mm 1.8 and my Minolta 75-300mm!

Better get searching for a good price!

I don't think there will be tbh, contrary to popular belief there are more than enough A mount lens for the uses that the current bodies will support. A mount is only really lacking in telephoto primes over 300mm but it doesn't have any sports bodies to really warrant such lenses. I think Sony have taken the system as far as they realistically can. F4 zooms some people may say are lacking but they are generally worse than their 2.8 cousins as e mount has nicely demonstrated.
 
theres alot of screw drive lenses that could be upgraded, quite a few lenses arent that great, and theres no tilt shift lenses, and some others missing
 
I don't know what the future holds and maybe mirrorless wont push the more conventional systems into ever smaller niche markets but if it does it wont be only the Sony non mirrorless systems that will reach a dead end... or something like a dead end.

I can see the point of the A mount stuff but as I'm now exclusively a mirrorless and EVF user it isn't for me and if buying into a more serious system for the first time today I'd go mirrorless rather than for a more conventional SLR like system.

Until all this happens or doesn't happen maybe any new A mount kit could give a clue to any new tech which might make its way into the A7 system.
 
A mount has evf. as for new tech the head of cameras likes small and light, and upto around 200mm, so a mount efforts have been minimal for years really. fun fact, A mount has no sony lenses with OS, but there are some sigma lenses. Now nearly a year after introducing 5 axis ibis on the a7ii, the line that has lenses with OS, is there a A mount camera with 5 axis? nope. 12mp or 36 or 42mp? nope. full app support? nope. stupid inferier hotshoe with incomplete accessory range? yep. advertising? nope

a7 series has same stupid hotshoe

im suspecting canon to go with a simple passthrough adapter, like a macro tube really, for their mirrorless FF, and just do a few mirrorless lenses where theres significant size/weight gains to be had.

other theories are office politics, and them wanting/needing big hits or market share grab and as a7 stuck, they just dropped everything else to tickover effort

I didn't realise. Seems the same as every other hotshoe. I use Nissin flashes and Elinchrom triggers with no problems.
 
I use third party flashes and wireless triggers on mine all the time and never had a problem.

While the old Minolta-style hotshoe had its benefits, it's better overall that Sony switched from that to the ISO standard format.
 
its not iso format, really. the pins corrode easily, the adapter is poorly designed, many things will work only if you fit them just so, there isnt a ttl lead, and im not sure how well a sony flash would fit on a canon or nikon.

so a existing sony flash owner has to use a s***ty adapter with a heavy flash unit, with a mechnicaly worse shoe, so some one who hasnt bought sony stuff before can mistakenly think their canon flash will work fine.

and cheapo minolta to iso adapters have been around for ages, sony could of made a neat small one and bundled it with cameras

its a unified (depending what pin out they give a camera) design with gps, viewfinder and flash and mic support. but theres no gps modual u can buy, and the last mic used 3.5mm jack. im not sure theres a viewfinder that uses the pinout or not.

Saw the black spot, seems these days manufacturers save money on r&d and prefer users to find issues (not just Sony that's guilty, canikon certainly aren't doing themselves any favours either!). Seems to also becoming more popular across all industries.

S it says on the rumour site, they say it was fixed with firmware.

I read it as a video only problem which seems strange to me if that's the case... why not in stills too? But I never shoot vid and know nothing about it.

he a7 series spec is really good, its more niggles and form factor and missing for no reason settings, plus focus speed holding it back for dslr users, and evf if u shoot sports

Whilst all that is true it's a good/very good system if like me you're not affected or not bothered by the shortcomings or can balance them against the shorcomings of DSLR's... For me even my lowly Panasonic G1 is preferable to a Canon 5D.

As I've often said, we must balance the + and - points and make the choice that's right for us.

Some may be interested in rumors (and news) and that's why me and others have posted links to the site in this thread. This particular high end model rumor doesn't have too long a lead time so we'll soon know if it'll exist or not.

As to the whole DSLR v A7 series thing, it's only natural that people should discuss the virtues, faults and compromises and the only thing that I personally don't like to see too much of is fanboyism and repetitively negative posts which lack balance. Other than delving too much into those areas I don't see anything wrong in adding a little balance and bringing up the pros and cons of the different systems now and again.

It is a shame that the thread seems to be a bit flat now and there's very little helping or advising on A7 matters but maybe things will pick up one day.
