The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Quite, and how do you find time to use them?

Do you need all three of A7r2, 7D2 and the 5DSR either?

I can find time if i want, but sometimes i am not in mood, also i had so bad situations since 4 years until now, but my situations are getting better slowly and maybe will be in good situations for long time, and this will make me to return back to photography more or better than before.

I can use 2 cameras as main or one as backup, i shoot many things [i will not say everything], and with that i don't use one camera for everything i shoot, if i shoot sports and events where people are involved as photojournalism then simply my 1DX and 7D2 are my main/backup cameras, for anything else except still life and studio then my A7R [i hope A7r2] will be my main body, and not sure about 5DsR as i may buy this just as fun or backup too or bonus, i can always give it to my wife or my kids to use it sometimes, also i can offer it for rent in my city so i can have some income even 10% of its actual price, but i still not decided on 5DsR to be honest and it is not my priority camera in my wishlist.

How? Well I visited a couple of shops in the morning to examine the old & new camera bodies, see the system and examine some of the lenses (though none of the Zeiss were in stock of course), then went home to consider things over lunch.
Decided and rang another shop I was aware of after lunch. Manager by chance had taken delivery of one of each batis that morning! Within those couple of hours the 85mm had already been sold, and I jumped at the 25mm!

Good advice on the batteries, thanks
Andy

excellent. good to know they are coming into stock. i was under the impression there were several months to wait once a pre order was taken. do you mind me asking which shop?

I am. Any questions u wanna ask?

hi. im selling my nikon gear to make way for the a7rii (risky i know), my favourite lens is the sigma 85mm 1.4.
i was considering getting the adaptor (sony or metabones) and then buying the lens (sony a or canon mount) to go with my a7rii when it arrives. all over the web ive read and watched mixed reviews of performance. would love to know how you have got on with it and which lenses you have used with it etc. what are they like wide open etc.
thanks in advance.
Jon

I have a single EX-Pro and wouldn't buy another. Doesn't last as long in use- maybe a 10-15% shortfall against the Sony OE. The bigger issue, though, is that it doesn't hold its charge very well before use. At times it'll register a drop from 100% to 65-70% just from sitting in my case.

mine have all been good, the whites are easily atleast as good as the sony oem ones, but this is mostly with the larger dslr type admittidly, the older normal blacks are 10-15% less, but thats still great value

I am doing the same, D800 and some lenses already gone. I have been using an A7R for a while, and it is going in p/ex for the A7R2 as soon as my local store can get it. I am also lusting after the 90mm macro!

Have only heard of one, and the autofocus didn't look fit for purpose.

Yup, its rubbish. Is there much point in getting the Sony as a size/weight saver when you will be adding the equivalent weight difference and size in adapter, then adding a large DSLR lens. Then you may need to add a grip on top of that to make it usable?

the lens size and weight isnt alot different, e mount vs dslr

Yeah, I know. So adding an adapter and then a large dslr lens makes little sense if the idea is to have a smaller lighter system. Youll end up with something bigger and heavier than you already have.

If id get an adapter it would be for 1 or 2 lenses max. 90% of the time i plan on having the 55 1.8 attached. it was great to chuck my a7 and 55 into my work bag every day and not notice the weight of it.

perhaps i should look for a nikon adaptor and just manual focus the sigma .

additionally, the weight saving isnt the only reason for the move. i found the EVF a real fun experience to work with and also like how it allows you to review the shot once taken without having to take the camera away from my eye. it just works really well for me. made for quite a fun experience.

Sounds like a plan, the 55 does work well on this size body.

85 1.4 is a pig to MF, may as well sell it and save towards a Batis.

i was going to buy the batis from digrev as their price was decent compared to the uk. since then they are having issues with paypal and have stopped taking pre orders i believe.

Just wait a bit, they'll come into stock elsewhere.

@CharleyBird that sounds like a fun early Christmas
It is; the two loxia lenses are extremely pleasing to handle and the 35mm has been on the camera mostly as I haven't had chance to get out and about.
I am really happy with the Ona bag, simply ordered off the internet after a couple of interesting days browsing the usual suspects... so was a little concerned about paying a considerable amount on a brand I'd never even heard of. In the past I had Tamracs, a black messenger style which was my usual carry and evenfually wore it out, plus another very large green flexible shoulder bag which when full went in the car as it was too heavy. Wife has a small Billingham.
The Ona is beautiful and discreet, a leather union street.

I don't think use of flash will have an impact on battery life but best to have a second battery handy. Put the camera in airplane mode to prolong battery.

The Metz 20 will work okay but it is a rather basic bit of kit and it doesn't swivel. Nissin i40 is way better and not hideously expensive.

I never use a filter, lens hood gives enough protection for me.

Your 90 macro is a fine portrait lens. There is a 135mm f2 manual focus Samyang on the market but I'd give the 90 a good go before buying something else.

Is the CTS85 T-Mount? In which case yes. Otherwise, I can't help there.
Thanks for this. The only flashgun I ever used a lot was a wireless 54gn Minolta on my 7xi The last camera i had, Nikon D70s had a built in flash so I never really thought about it much, snapping the kids mostly. Shall see at the first family get together if the Metz copes.

The Samyang is interesting and I see there are a couple of Zeiss 135's that presumably require adapters; will take your advice and use the 90mm, and wait for a loxia/batis version.
Cheers
Andy

Hi all. Not happy with the 16-35 f2.8 canon l lens. Too soft when shot at the wide end. Was wondering if there is a brilliant wide angle prime I can use for my a7r2? Budget is 1k for the lens. Was looking at the Batis 24mm but it's not available any time soon and I think I need wider tbh. Something like a 16mm or wider.

not sure of a super wide prime, but perhaps the sigma art 24mm?
how are you getting on with the adaptor? whats af speed like wide open?
thanks

Just checking the rules to see if this is OK (some sites are very careful about dealers & subtle advertising). The batis came from Camera Centre Newport. It has a very solid though lightish feel.
I have been told the lenses are officially due into the country mid-October, and as you say, are pre-order online at the moment.

No such lens available. Look at the Samyang 14mm, you dont need AF for a lens that wide.
yea teh 34mm batis is like gold dust at the moment mate. no clue when it will be back in stock and as u say i dont need af on a wide angle lens to be honest.

I was also thinking about the new canon 14-24mm lens i believe it is? that one that has a built in hood and doesnt take any front filters as the diameter is huge!

is this the one twist?

Its a 25mm Batis lol!

Thats it mate. Nice lens. Also look at the Tamron 15-30, crazy good.

thanks. have nearly sold all my nikon gear now. so will have to work out what can be afforded. both batis and the 70-200 would be nice but probably out of budget

It doesnt accept STANDARD threaded filters, dont you use a filter holder system?
I use to use the cokin P system but adopted to use standard threaded system for lighter carry/ease of use.

The cokin P filter still requires you to mount the filter holder on a standard trheaded lens

That Tammy lens is one option i was looking for, but sounds because the weight maybe and filter issue no one is considering it as a good option, about filters i have large filters and also have filter holder for those UWA lenses, Samyang 14 i have and Canon TS-E 17, both don't have that standard filter thread, so another lens will not be an issue, and i also use those large filters with the standard lenses [77-82mm] too and i never see vignetting even using 2-3 filters together.
