The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I have the 70-200 G for longer length, and the 55 1.8. Now I come to think of it, the 90mm would probably be the one to go for.....

How about using a tamron macro (Sony or canon mount) via an adapter. Will save you loads of ££

I'm building my FE collection, and trying to avoid having to carry extra bits. I have the LA AE4, and the 70-210 f4 and 50 1.7 Minolta lenses that I'm gonna sell.

How does the 70-210 perform?

Not used it much as I got the FE, but it pretty sharp when stopped down a tad, focus is fairly quick but noisy as you would expect. I would.keep them as the 1.7 is really quite nice, but I want to go all native without adaptors. Gonna sell the adaptor and both lenses for around £375

Hard question as we all expect different things i don't find mine noisy however if you used in a church maybe you would ind it intrusive

It might seem trivial to some, but I do find the shutter sounds quite important. It was my main issue with the a7. So I guess my question is: is it much quieter than the a7?
Many thanks

Sorry i don't know i have not heard the A7 for a comparison i would suggest its close in volume to the Canon 5D3

Haha. Just making sure you hadn't made a silly error! Why both though? Not fancy the 55? It's gorgeous.

Both because I have a lingering feeling that I might have some buyers remorse with the Loxia at £900 as good as it is........ 35 f2.8 as its the main native AF lens I like the look of and will let me make a decision on whether I like the A7ii enough to invest in the system more.

Ok peeps, i have the A7ii, and the A7Rii and A6000, before i bought the R2 I was going to get the A7S, but now the Sii is on it's way. My question is this, does the 5 Axis make up for the higher ISO on the "s" bodies, allowing longer shutter speeds against higher ISO?

If your subject matter is stationery yes if its moving not really as you would have motion blur

S is very much a video camera, high ISO is important for that I believe but your stills will be just fine on the A7rii with IBIS

Well it is only stills, landscape and seascapes will be tripod anyway, it was just low natural lighting i was wondering if there would be any advantage coupled with IBIS and high ISO on the Sii

Evening folks. I've been an A7s shooter since October last year. I've long since sold my Nikon bodies but retained my Nikkor lenses and use these regularly on the Sony, via a cheap adapter. With the lunar eclipse looming I've been having problems sourcing an equivalent adapter to mount Canon EF lenses, to let me take advantage of my dad's 100-400L. I know I'll have to use it in full manual and that's fine.

An adapter turned up today but it refuses to mount to the body. I've spoken to the supplier and they've confirmed it's a NEX E-mount adapter which hadn't previously been tested on A7x models- the difference seems to be the thickness of the NEX plastic mount vs A7x's metal mount.

So, is this something anyone's had experience of, or happens to know of a cheap, swiftly-delivered solution for?

Time is obviously against me which rules out any non-UK supply options; budget is also a consideration as it's entirely possible I'll never use the body/lens combo again. I'd rather pay £30-35 (the cost of my Nikon adapter) to keep it a Canon adapter in my case on the off chance of a future need. Any more than that, I'd probably rent a Metabones but without needing to depend on its AF.

Try jackthehat on ebay, sourced a few adapters from them, very good tolerances and all worked perfectly. Not sure about ef mount but I'd definitely recommend you try them first.

Managed to pickup my A7ii from the Post Office this evening and the Loxia.... god this camera feels like a nice tight package, a good weight and feels very well built.
I do wish the grip was a little larger although its night and day better than the old A7, not had much chance to play yet but the few shots I've taken inside at high ISO with the Loxia are very impressive, the Loxia lens is a thing of beauty, it looks awesome, feels awesome and even manual focusing is easy, although I do still have that nagging in my head that I've paid £970 for a manual focus lens...... so its not 100% that its staying yet but we'll see, £970 could buy either a very nice 16-35 or even the Zeiss Distagon f1.4 35mm (from Panamoz) although the size of it has put me off a little but it looks a stunner too.

I suppose if they do an update for my A7 I'll give it a go but I'm not sure I'll use it as my standard setting, not if the files are twice the size. I might use it for the occasional special shot.

I'll look forward to a long and detailed review :D

Been looking at Voigtlander lenses on line. Dunno if I'll get any though. Had one on my Bessa and stupidly sold it for next to nothing. Anyone using them?

Nice. My 55 zeiss is feeling very lonely. Not sure if I should get the a7ii or blow the doors off and go silly with the a7rii.

35mm f1.4/1.7, 50mm f1.1/1.7, maybe 28mm f2, M mount maybe MC rather than SC if there's a choice?

I don't really need them but just thinking about getting new MF lenses instead of the old creaking SLR MF lenses. I used to like the lens I had on my Bessa.

Get the 16-35. I take the majority of my shots with it these days - it's rather good.

Its good that Sony are paying some attention to its customers. Not sure the benefit out-ways the file size increase though. I will see for myself if they apply the update to the R.
I really havent used my camera for a while now with having just moved into our first house, but im keen to get back out with it soon. Im sure when im allowed to buy the 16-35 it will spur me on, ive always loved the wider lenses.

Thanks. Looking at their listings I'm doubtful there'd be any difference to the one I've got already that doesn't mount properly. I think I need to find a dedicated Alpha E-mount adapter, rather than NEX E-mount.

Their adapters looked the same/very similar to other cheaper adapters Ive purchased but the the difference in tolerance was mega. Message them and ask if you can return it if it doesnt fit correctly with your A. Otherwise youre looking at novoflex / meta money.

I have the FE 16-35 f/4 and it's great, as UWA zooms go. Minimal distortion and great sharpness right out to the corners. I still prefer primes at night, though, as the faster lenses help make the most of the EVF. At night, and especially in dark sky areas, the f/4 of the FE zooms can be quite challenging to work with when composing.
