I'd welcome this but I can't see myself buying too many f2.8 lenses. The Sony 35mm f2.8 is very nice but leaves me wishing it was f1.8 and I certainly wouldn't be interested in a 50mm f1.8 at any price as I think that the Sony f1.8 is reasobably priced. I may be tempted by a 24 or 28mm f2.8 but f1.8's would be so much more tempting if they could be reasonably compact, perhaps no bigger than the 55mm f1.8, and if they could keep the price to about £600 or below. I think I'd want a 85mm to be f1.8 or maybe f2 too rather than f2.8.

Would anyone be interested in a range of Sigma f2.8 primes?

No but sigma need to test the waters and release 2.8 primes for half the cost of the Sony and ziess equivalent
 
Yes, I suppose there are two pretty obvious advantages for f2.8 primes...

- size, they can hopefully be smaller.
- price, they can hopefully be cheaper.

Fail in either or God forbid both of those and for me they'd become pretty much pointless but personally I'd still much prefer f1.8's if they keep the size and cost from going too high.

Well if they can release a 1.4 35mm art lens that cost same as a 55mm 1.8 they be laughing.

Tbh if you try the a7r2 the 35mm art canon works as fast as native lenses during the day!
 
its fairly easy to make a 2.8 very sharp, faster is harder, but yeah 2.8 is abit :/
 
TBH although the Sony 55mm f1.8 is outstanding and the 35mm f2.8 is very good I'd probably be happy with slightly lesser image quality to keep the size down.

I appreciate that the Sigma 35mm f1.4 is an excellent lens and is probably better than the Sony 35mm f2.8 and offers f1.4 too but I'd choose the Sony lens every time even though it's f2.8 because of the saving in bulk. Can't say that I'd go for a cheap Sigma 35mm f2.8 over the Sony as IMVHO the Sony isn't overpriced but a compact and good enough Sigma 35mm f1.8 could and maybe even would tempt me.

wonder if theres any pics of the sony 35 1.4 next to leica or similer glass, my 40 1.4 cv is tiny :D
 
The specs are easy enough to find and I suspect that the Sony 35mm f1.4 will be quite a bit bigger but it is a very good auto focus lens and being very good and auto focus add to the bulk. Over at DXO I think that the Sony makes it into the top ten lenses they've tested. My quite smallish manual focus Minolta Rokkor 35mm f1.8 doesn't.

I think that the Sony is within a few mm here and there of tha Sigma 35mm f1.4 which is another very good AF lens which makes it into the top 10 at DXO and it too is large-ish.

Hi guys, bought myself a couple of cards to go with my new shiny R2, but don't know if i have made a mistake. I bought 2 x Lexar 1000 x 64GB SDXC UHS-II 150 mb/s. Are these the best for this camera, or have i made a cock up?

That's the one I bought working fine for me but haven't tried 4K yet.
 
Can anyone recommend a good Nikon G to Sony FE mount adapter? I've bought a used Fuji XT1 (and sold my D750) but I fancy keeping my toe in the full frame world too and wouldn't mind an A7 to try out and make a final decision on which system I'll "fully invest in".
I'd like to be able to use some of my Nikon glass manually (18-35 mainly) rather than fork out the large cost of some of the native Sony glass so ideally looking for a good adapter.

If all you want is a dumb adapter you can pay anything from under £10 and upwards.

You may know that I have MD, Zuiko and FD Novoflex adapters for my A7 and they also do a Nikon adapter but it's only designated as "Nikon" and doesn't mention G or anything else. Speedgraphic do them for £129. Just search NEX/NIKON and you'll see them. Whatever you go for I think you should check that the adapter is "FF" as the first one I got was a £10 Nex adapter off the auction site and it's made for APS-C and vignettes with my 24mm, it's ok with 28mm though.

I'm still pretty impressed with the image quality I get from my A7 and despite a bit of GAS I can't see myself changing it anytime too soon but I do wish they or someone else would make a 35mm f1.8 the same weight and bulk and quality of the Sony 35mm f2.8 :D
 
PS.

Would be great to get more feedback from A7rII owners. Even though I wont be buying one :D

Thanks, i was just wondering as I heard that the a7 can't make use of the UH II speed....where the XT1 can.........dunno....

First impressions is that it is a solid lump, very dense, also getting used to the small form factor with your fingers is taking a while, not something which will affect existing A7 users.
Notwithstanding that, it is a very impressive camera. It has amazed me just what it can deliver. I can't really give you examples but images which would have been nigh on impossible taken in a dimly lit church with my Canon gear just come alive with this body. The EVF just lights up everything and WYSIWYG and that is astounding to me!!! The 1D3 would need a squirt from my 580 EX II to come up with a similar result and I'm talking straight out of the camera!
It is so full of features which are taking me a long time to explore but I'm in no hurry.
Bottom line though is I'm delighted with my move from DSLR to Sony mirrorless BUT I doubt anything other than the Sony A7RM2 would have persuaded me to make the move. So I guess that speaks for itself.
I bet if you held one and shot a few 'rolls off' (ah sorry what an ageist thing to say) - you would buy it, so might I suggest you don't ever ever touch it ;-)

Thanks and I'd actually rather read views like those you've expressed than look at images on line. Personal views are much more helpful than pictures on a screen IMO :D

I keep thinking about getting one but to be honest it's just GAS and I don't need the abilities the rII offers over my A7.

So I'm sure I wont be getting one even though I've just had a bigger HDD fitted.

Any recommendations for the cheapest, widest lens to fit an A7ii?

I have the Zeiss 55 1.8, which is brilliant. I really like this lens. But I want something wide too.

It doesn't need to be auto, just cheap and compatible.

Samyang 14mm f2.8 is probably your best bet, manual focus but IQ is excellent with a good one.
 
I have a number of manual focus 24 and 28mm f2.8's. If that's wide enough. All are IMO useable for whole images. 24mm f2.8's seem to hover about the £100 mark whilst 28mm's can be had for... less... about £20-40 maybe.
 
Well I've had a little chance to play for a few mins with my new R2 and I'm loving it. Can't get over the level of detail compared to the 5D3.

i tested and used AF-C mode with a wide AF points selected on my Sigma 35,, ART f1.4 canon mounted lens and i was really surprised how well it tracked!

I've been looking at the reviews of the A7r ii, after discounting a Leica M because of price/performance reviews. I keep coming across "lossy raw files" Can someone kindly explain what is meant in simple terms, and weather it really matters in the real world.

Guys, I'm planning to buy this from HK in November. Has anyone bought any camera equipment from HK before? What is your experience.

It is listed on panamoz now finally and if paid by BT it will cost around around £2137.

I am expecting HK prices to be less than that. Also expecting the price to have fallen further by November.

Any advice much appreciated.
 
Seems to be around 23,000 HKD right now (roughly £1930) on price.com.hk

HK high street chains will be more expensive though.

Panamoz 3 year warranty remember, probably worth something.
 
Buying in HK camera shops can be an "interesting" experience. I'd far rather trust Panamoz's three-year warranty.

Yes but the only issue I have is that I consider any panamoz purchase as no warranty at all, because all warranties are based in HK, shipping back to them etc.

Furthermore they are based in HK, what's stopping them from closing shop and abandoning all warranty obligations? They are not going to go through bankruptcy legislation like in the UK.

They can just shut this site down and create a new one with new customers.

Having said that even UK businesses who offer their own independent warranty would render the same results if they shut down. Hmmm

They actually did shut down a few years ago and real surfaced again lol
 
I guess nothing is 100% safe. My experience with panamoz has been excellent including repairs by Nikon UK paid for by panamoz without hesitation. No question of return to HK.

Panamoz warranties are not "ship back to HK" any warranty issues will be dealt with by a UK repair specialist.
 
OK thanks for clarity on the repair. My concern about them packing up and abandoning warranty obligations at any time still stands though yes.?

They could but they do seem pretty reputable (certainly as far as HK goes) and their 3 year warranty is longer than the standard 12 month UK warranty...
