The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

The price will drop quite a lot when they bring out the next version which fixes some of the unfinished business.

£2,600? Could have been worse.

The price may drop in a few months to a year and it'll be interesting to see what the price will be from people like Digital Review.

It will drop substantially, just need to look at the A7s sales history. After 1yr should be a nice £1700 if it follows the same trend (which all Sony cameras follow because they release them so frequently).

Checked with WEX, they've had nothing from Sony regarding price yet. Expecting info in a few days.

LCE on the Strand didn't have a price yet when I popped in this lunchtime.

They did have a used A7II body for £999, though

Well, well, well. Knock me down with a feather. This should please people...

"5) Uncompressed RAW: Sony RAW is compressed, not uncompressed. But if we’re getting a lot of requests for it, we should make such a kind of no-compression raw. We recognize the customer’s requirement, and actually we are working on it. And yes Sony could provide that via simple firmware upgrade!"

I'm pleased they are finally listening. How long has this taken them? Meh, what's a few years. After all its so easy to implement via simple fw.

I've never lost sleep over it and I'd be willing to bet that for most people it's not a real world issue but I'll probably update the firmware and at least it's something that the Sony bashers can cross off the list of whinges.

To be fair, it was never an issue, this is just for those people that can't rationalise that niggle at the back of their mind.

Perhaps not most but enough for it to cause a stir and posts about it from some big names, certainly not bashing when it comes from Sony users. Why do it in the first place?

Anyway, hopefully they fix it properly. Like I said, it's good they are making tweaks. If Fuji can do it so can the rest of them... not just Sony.

... so... anyone preordering when it's out?

Thinking hard, it has exactly what I want for my wedding work (Electronic Shutter, Electronic quieter First Curtain, better AF), but I think I will 'get by' as I've only got a few more this year. Next year I've got loads so I think it will be an inevitable upgrade.

Mostly hinges on the AF performance though (and if they release a new adaptor so screw driven A mount glass works without a needing the SLT adaptor), I would love the 135mm 1.8 again more than anything.

Absolute monster files, I imagine...which will only put more strain on that little battery. The battery life quoted is borderline unacceptable as it is.

There have also been some big names saying very clearly that it's a non issue but no matter what some blokes say on the net it's up to each of us to make our own minds up. I seem to fluctuate between very tolerant and being extremely anal about every little fault but I have to say that even though I've pixel peeped at 200% never mind 100% I've never found the raw compression to be an issue for me.

Anyway, once the update is available people can hopefully forget about it and concentrate on whinging about the lack of lenses, expensive lenses and how crap the batteries are.

Hopefully there'll be a menu option to shoot compressed or uncompressed.

The more I read about this camera the more appealing it seems, but would have to wait until the prices settle. I looked at the A7 when I looked to change from my XT, but the availability of longer lenses put me in the same boat as the Fuji and the reason I bought the D750.

The IBIS, which could be a huge help for me, cropability and use of Canon lenses using the Metabones adapter could be a game changer?

So, £2600 it is.

Not a bad conversion from the US, taking VAT into account.

Welcome to the club, A7 isn't too bad :)

Thanks, I couldn't resist given the used price (£700). No doubt someone else will get the same bargain on here in a few weeks if I don't get on with the a7r :) In the meantime I'm keen to see if my Contax Zeiss lenses stand up to the demands of a 36MP sensor...

Great price! I'll probably keep an eye out for A7r's used once the ii is launched!

I'm surprised to find myself tempted by the A7rII as the faster focusing, IBIS and silent shutter and BSI all sound very nice. I probably don't need these things but there's a difference between need and want :D

When the A7 was first announced I thought it looked like something made in a garden shed but it grew on me and I preordered one before they hit the shops and when it arrived it killed any even remote thought of going back to DSLR's. I wasn't too tempted by the A7II but the new rII could be very tempting.

DO IT. :D

yes i am do it! very tempted man. i will compare the high is shots with my a7s and if its the same or better i can sell you my a7s

Na, Im alright, unless its a donation or VERY cheap lol. I have my D750 and am very happy.

I will stick to my sub £300 Merrills and have enough change for another 3 or 4 family holidays :) which is more important than a £3000 camera.

IMVHO Merrills aren't the same thing. Ok they're cameras :D but they're fixed lens cameras and unless you love the focal length you need multiple cameras and then there's the little operational issues that make any A7 series camera look like it was designed and made by God, on a good day.

Good and cheap though Merrills are they fixed lens APS-C cameras with a host of operational issues and personally I'd rather have my Panasonic G1 forever... Merrills have their fans but personally they're not for me and I just can't see many people who are seriously considering an A7 series camera considering a Merrill unless one is to compliment the other.

Agreed

Most my shots would be tripod work and the Sigma Merrill is King of image quality sharpness and detail for me period, never had another camera what comes close to the final image.

I have had most Canon L lens's also the Canon 1D series. I don't think anything including the new Sony will have the detail and sharpness of the Sigma's foveon sensor but I hope Sony prove me wrong as I agree fully to what people say besides Image quality the Merrills are horrendous in every other department.
