The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Couple of additional pics from me. I've put an A7R set together on Flickr to gather all my A7R pics so far. You can find it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/tobinators/sets/72157637943103785

This with the Konica M-Hexanon 90 2.8 which is doing a very good job.

And this with the Leica M Summarit 50 2.5 which is super. Note this isn't HDR'd or anything, there were just really nicely lit clouds as the sun set.

As with others, I'm finding the detail, crispness and dynamic range from the A7R to be pretty amazing. I'm off to Scotland shortly for some landscape fun so really looking forward to that.

Sound like it should be fun!

My lowly A7 is proving an excellent low light tool with the 85L.

I spent a few minutes taking pictures in darkness on my way to the station this evening and I'm pretty pleased with what I'm seeing on screen. I'll get a sample up later.

I have another gig in the very dim pub in Surbiton on Sunday so I'll have a chance to try it with moving targets :)

Well I found it challenging to use shorter lenses and get the focus right, so I stuck to the Planar 85/1.4. Perhaps I should have used the magnify option? Anyway, I'm pleased enough with the close-ups. This is Mark Morriss, former front man of the hit 90s group the Bluetones. Larger copies are on Flickr.

I certainly would have prefered my DSLR in this instance, but the results are decent nevertheless. One thing I was truly surprised about was the quality of the video produced by this camera...it's nothing short of amazing! I had no idea what I was doing so just hit the record button, but the sound and video is astonishing given the circumstances :D

Just arrived - a Lee Rangefinder deluxe filter set. 75mm size, nice and dinky, with 3 graduated filters and a polarising filter. Not cheap, but very well made and no colour cast. I've had the larger 100mm Lee filters before and they are excellent. This little set fits nicely into my wee "A7R goodies bag" which is a Thinktank Speed Changer belt bag and carries the 2 lenses not on the camera, the filters, some lens cloths, couple of spare batteries etc.

And a couple more pictures

My 5D sold in the classifieds today so that's seven lenses sold and now the camera and I'm now mirrorless with a Sony A7 and Panasonic G1.

I've had a SLR/DSLR for well over twenty years, probably nearer 30, and I was very tempted to keep the 5D and just the Sigma 50mm f1.4 but I just haven't been using the big heavy Canon kit since getting the G1 and now that I have the A7 I just couldn't see myself using the 5D.

So, DSLR's are behind me now and mirrorless is the future for me :D

If anyone is looking for Canon FD lenses, Ffordes have got in even more 'brand new' old stock FD lenses since yesterday. Quite a few to choose from, I treated myself to a 50mm F1.2.

All I need now is an A7 to use it on, though have ordered an adaptor so I can play on my EOS until I get an A7

I've never had an FD lens, I've read that they're quite big.

Can anyone comment on FD size v other legacy lenses such as Minolta Rokkor and Olympus Zuiko?

Another quick one from the Voigtlander 15mm. I'm seeing a lot of light reflections form it, it's to do with the lens design and the sensor, you can see it to the right of the billboard. Think it will be relegated to the draw, shame as it's a fantastic sharp lens. Will be using my Tamron 17-35mm once my adaptor turns up, will be interesting to see how that combo works out.

I'm back again, a month without internet is hell!

I've entered the 21st century and bought a smartphone, now can anyone guide me on how I use it as a remote for the A7R?

Oh and the Canon 58mm f1.2 - just wow. I had to perform some surgery on the adapter to make it work, but it was worth it. I'll document that again when I've caught up with everything

Zuiko smallest, Rokkor and FD I don't think there's much in it. My FL lenses are all metal though so heavy beasts, the 85mm f1.8 I have is very small I reckon for its size. FD adapters are shoreter than OM or MD so you gain a bit there.

'New' FD lenses (all black with bayonet mount rather than breech lock) are usually smaller and almost always lighter than the earlier models. Canon moved in early with polycarbonate for these.

I've seen similar occasionally with a couple of my C/Y lenses, though less so with my FDs.

It may be internal reflections on the adapter that can be cured by applying some flocking material. There's been some discussion on fredmiranda.com about it.

Not heard of using flocking material. I'll see how my Tamron 17-35mm goes before I decide on what to do. TBH 15mm is too wide for my liking.

You need to download the Sony play memories app then connect in the WiFi menu of the camera

Or if you have NFC touch your phone on the side of the camera and it will automatically open the app and start the connection.

Nothing in the caera wireless menu mentions remote control and I've not been able to find any app for my phone....

Any recommendations for a decent strap? I have removed the standard one its a bit rubbish, wouldnt mind a wrist strap as well.

You need to connect your camera to a wifi access point then you can browse the available apps on the camera (assuming you've signed in with a Sony account which you can set up from your computer) and download the smart remote app straight to the camera.

You then need the PlayMemories Mobile app on your android/iphone.

When you have both, you're sorted. Start the smart remote app on the camera then the app on your phone, and connect them over wifi and you're away.

That'll be the problem then I have Windows on my phone

I'm gonna get another one from High Key myself

They look the same as the standard one but in pretty colours. Im looking for something that doesnt get in the way as much and maybe a quick release.

Edit: Gone for the Optech Utility, attaches using a quick release which i can attach a wrist strap to also, hangs grip up so easier to get hold of. Only £10 as well, if that fails i will make one out of paracord.

Kipon Canon FD - NEX adapter surgery, as promised:

When it arrived lenses wouldn't mount, at all. Flipping it upside down revealed the problem: The aperture stop down actuator (a simple screw through the side!) is fitted in the wrong location, it stops the lens sitting flush onto the bayonet.

So I took it out and attacked it with a grinder until the lens would mount and the lever would move freely.

Then there was another problem. The ring that moves the stop down pin is too loose, so I took out the spring behind the ball bearing that gives the click and replaced it with a solid chunk of elastic band. That holds the ball bearing much more firmly against it's detent recess and still has enough give that the ring can be turned.

So that was a PITA, but it now works and I am very much enjoying using the 58mm f1.2!

Woohoo I've found a windows phone app that can run the embedded remote app on the camera. Don't know if it'll do the extended one or not but at least it stops me having to use the noisy self timer out in the field

I sometimes think the world is leaving me behind.

I used to work in computers and wider electronics but these days I seem to turn my back on technology, other than photography of course :D

Years ago I knew everything but these days I wouldn't know how to load an app :D or why I'd want to :D I'll leave it to you youngsters :D

Update on Diglloyd about the A7R shutter vibration problem. Apparently Sony says 'what problem?' and then in contradiction, 'we might look at a firware fix' or words to that effect.

An app is just a program for the Andriod, Apple, and windows mobile operating systems
Android is the best :troll:

Just picked up a Canon FD 50 1.2 from Ffordes as well, and confirm it is new and boxed. Just awaiting the adapter. I'm interested in this lens for creating more interesting 50mm pics where a bit of creativity is required. Apparently it's not very sharp wide open, but I think that can work with that.

Not many, or any are sharp wide open. Should be interesting though. Show us the results you're happy with.

Ahh so you got the other one, there were only two of them.

I can confirm that wide open it is indeed not that sharp, although I only got it today and I've just done a couple of quick indoor tests on my 1D IV.

By the time you hit F2 - F2.8 though things improve a great deal. I'll have a play over the weekend if it ever stops raining!!
