The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

As I've said before... I'd be interested something like a more compact version of the Sigma 50mm f1.4... but for the A7 I suppose it'd be yet another no marking FBY spawn of The Devil jobbie. I can't believe these lenses are designed by people who use them. Horrible things INVHO.

Original Sony battery, USB cable supplied with the camera.

...

Currently entertaining the following possibilities

- USB cable has failed

Got back home and I have determined that it was indeed the Sony USB cable that failed. A cheap BNIB one I had already works fine.

Rather odd, considering

A) it was good enough for the camera to recognise when it was plugged in to a USB port, but not up to charging or actually connecting.

B) I've hardly used it since I bought the camera and it's mostly been just sitting in a drawer. It was working fine on day 1, though.

Anyhow, mystery solved :)

My sister has a Sony phone, similar issue with cables.
Be worth getting. A charger at some point, be quicker too

I've a Hahnel universal charger that I've been using most of the time which works fine. I just didn't pack it as the car was stuffed with Xmas stuff and I was trying to save space.

Nice colours Phil, is that from the kit lens?

Quick heads up for anyone looking for the 35mm. Amazon have a couple in stock for £630.

Ordered my A7 and battery grip from Panamahooha £1130.50 and they pay all import fees.

Well whilst my internet was down my new Canon FL bits arrived - that's 58mm f1.2, 85mm f1.8 and 35mm f2.5.

I'm going to really enjoy the 58mm as soon as the damned adapter arrives!

The 58 should be fun.

If the 85 FL is optically similar to the FD version, it should be nice and sharp a stop or two down, but show a bit of LO CA.

I think I've heard fairly good reports of the 35

Mine's on charge now, intriguing packing, the camera is small and light, I do prefer a big chunk of brass and steel but hey ho. Anyway, no results yet because 1) it aint charged and 2) No adapters have arrived.
As long as my eyes can take it I'm m/f lenses all the way. Once the mince pies go west, there'll be a fire sale and it's Zeiss a/f city here we come. The 16-35 looks nice, as does the 55mm 1.8 but let's see what happens with my old slr lenses.
(once I am able to mount them on camera).
Looking good for now.

I haven't heard of a cheap battery grip yet, but that would help bulk it up

Yes i love being able to pull back the detail, sometimes i think i have lost all the sky then i find i can max out the exposure slider in lightroom and bring it all back.
The above picture is only about -0.8 so nothing to rave about, im certainly loving my first FF camera.

One thing i have noticed is the camera sometimes taking longer to power on, is there something i have missed in the menus?

Does the same thing with the original.

Quick one taken with the Voigtlander 15mm, it does produce a magenta cast but easy to deal with in LR. Even though I’m happy using just MF lenses I have got my eye on the 24-70mm for travel purposes.

Did a bit of waterproof testing of the A7R today.

This was down in Selsey in West Sussex. I got completely drenched. I hadn't intended doing this sort of thing today but figured the papers might be interested in a few images so I got stuck in.

The verdict on the camera is - be careful if you think it's going to get wet. The USB download to my laptop stopped working, and one of the dials, probably the rear one which I have set for shutter speed, malfunctioned and kept adjusting the shutter speed on its own or going to the next shot when in play mode on its own. With all the water on my glasses & on the viewfinder (I kept wiping the lens clean) it was very hard to manual focus so I used the focus scale on the lens, set it to f/8 and 1/500th with auto ISO and let the camera sort it all out.

The camera is now drying out after being wiped clean with a damp, warm non-salt-water cloth, along with the Olumpus 21 3.5 used to take these pics. To say I got soaked is an understatement - my waterproof jacket and trousers are now getting the salt washed out of them.

Great picture though ... I'd never risk my new acquisition in such a manner mind....hope it all turns out well.

My A7 got a bit of a dousing during a rain downpour at lunch today - I finally took it out with the kit lens to see what that could do.

Probably nothing on the scale of what you're describing, though my jeans got fairly well soaked.

All seems fine I'm happy to report.

I live in Selsey and I never take my gear out in this weather, still a great shot though.

A quick update on my A7R following yesterday's storm outage. After overnighting in the airing cupboard with the battery out and all flaps open, everything is working normally thankfully.

Water looks like it had got into the thumb dial at the upper part of the back plate (next to the C2 button) causing it to malfunction. It's now OK and doing what it should do.

Here's another one...

Another great photo, glad your A7r is OK too, good to know

I've now tried my Leica M lenses, my Zeiss ZM's, and a couple of Canon and Nikon lenses on my A7r. None of them are as good the 55/1.8FE. This lens is a stunner. The 35/2.8 isn't too shabby either.

In case anyone has their eye on some high quality FD lenses, Ffordes seem to have just got a bunch of New-Old Stock FDs in - 24 1.4 L, 135/2, etc.

I might have accidentally purchased an FD 85mm f1.2L - I've been after a nice one for ages :)

Hopefully it will be delivered early next week.
