I'll have to take some pictures of my Zuiko + Rokkor collection together with some example shots of the same subject. At the mo I'm just using the Zuiko 28mm f2.8 and 50mm f1.8 and it's a nice bonus that these lenses are just soooooo cheap.
 
Well I've just been a very naughty boy and bought a set of Canon lenses. 35mm f2.5 (will be selling, I don't need yet another 35mm!), 85mm f1.8 and most importantly a 58mm f1.2. Of course I sold my FD adapter last week so just had to buy another of those too!

Can't wait to see some truly shallow DOF!
 
I doubt I'll see shallower DoF than my MFT only Voigtlander 25mm f0.95, the key being it'll focus very close.
 
I always wanted one of those too but could never afford one! I was very fortunate with this trio of canons, less than £300 delivered. I guess no one wanted them on account of the yellow glass. (all it needs is a few days in the sun - granted that will be a challenge round here!)
 
I almost bought those Richard, still struggling to decide which lenses to go for. LM/TM mount stuff is quite expensive for anything decent, anything else is big but well priced. Voigtlanders seem best value/performance for Leica mount.

My extenders came a 10mm and a 16mm, can do some basic macro with the 35mm now.

When it says weather sealed what exactly does that mean? Will it withstand a downpour?

This is defo my next camera, Im saving like mad for the a7R and a couple of decent Zeiss lenes, it might take a year or two to save up but Ill get there
 
Any need to change from the RC version? I haven't had any issues using it so far.

I'll let you know when it's finished downloading and I've installed it. I've found RC very buggy to be honest, and performed significantly worse than LR4. Hopefully the full version will address these issues, although I doubt it.

In other news I fixed my Konica adapter. :banana:

I initially just added them to the watch list, then thought hang on f1.2 lenses generally go for £300+ on their own. Selling the 35mm should raise enough to service the 85mm (and a couple of my existing lenses) and a week down the shed (glass roof) should clear the yellow.

I was already on 5.2 the jump to 5.3RC fixed a few things for me.

The only thing that put me slightly off was that the 85mm needs work and the 55mm 1.2 is better than the 58 wide open. Still a good deal though.
 
I haven't gone for hyper fast lenses as I find that more often than not I've only been using the widest apertures when battling shutter speed and ISO but with these new cameras offering acceptable performance at ISO values which were unheard of not so long ago I reasoned that I'd be much happier at sometime like f2.8-4 and only going wider for artistic reasons rather than for reasons of exposure.

With my 5D and Sigma 50mm f1.4 I often found that f4 didn't give quite enough DoF for some portraits (one eye in DoF one not... hmmmm, that's not what I wanted...) so I'm reasonably sure that my f1.4 and f1.8 lenses will offer enough scope for artistic use and a wide enough aperture for low light shooting. Even my 85mm f2 should offer a wide enough aperture and to be honest I'll probably be stopping down maybe to f4 ar smaller much of the time anyway. Plus of course the not so fantastically wide lenses are often cheaper and physically smaller.

It's a lovely little lens. I had one for a while earlier this year and would never have sold it if I had known the A7 was coming along. Mine was soft but nice wide open, good from f2 and very good from f4.
 
I got tired of searching for the perfect lens that doesnt exist unless I want to pay £900+ used!

Read from 1.8/2 onwards its sharp, I think 1.4 for portraits and what I shoot will be fine with regards sharpness, dont want it to sharp, as if needed would rather sharpen in LR.

What camera did you use it on?
 
No stamina! I think it was the very short-lived NEX-3N.

I seem to recall that. I wasnt a big fan of the 3 either, 5 better, 6 best.
 
Just something I've noticed - has Adobe mucked up on the camera profiles? Vivid from Adobe looks nothing like Vivid from the camera. In fact switching Lightroom to 'Light' makes it look like Vivid on the camera!
 
Just tried with 5.3RC and vivid is definitly more vivid than the light profile, blacks are much deeper.

Just updated mine to the final release version, it includes the 35mm lens profile so does at least add something to the RC version.

Yes but it does not equal vivid mode in camera, Light does.

Very useful guide, thank you! I've think the display quality actually refers to the quality through the screen and EVF when shooting BTW (something I've been trying to work out for ages!). If I compose in standard quality mode, there is more moire than when shooting in high quality mode. But...according the manual, battery life will be compromised. For us manual users there is the consideration of whether more moire is actually a good thing (to aid focus).
 
I think there's super fast lenses up to 135mm, think there's 1.2 and 1.4 of those, one was sigma branded, should any of you lot be tempted :-)
 
I ordered another lens last night, the CV 50 1.5 LTM, so Ill have the 40 SC LM & 50 LTM. Not sure it makes sense but will be interesting to compare them. Anyone with experience of using both?

40 Looks good size wise but Im used to 50mm and the 50 is supposed to be better wide open, will probably get rid of one for a 75mm.

Im missing the point. It wont be like a 24-70 2.8 on FF though which is what the A7/r is. I guess if youre used to APSC sensors that makes sense.
 
nothing stopping you getting that lens and using an adapter, personally i bought the a7 to be a smaller option so i don't want massive lenses.
 
The 17-50 is an APSC lens and its also 11.5mm shorter than the FE 2470 which is 95mm in length so not very small.
