The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Just shot our first destination wedding with the A7III and this is really where mirrorless comes into its own.

I could fit all our Nikon kit in our thinktank bag before, but it would take two of us to lift it into the overhead locker, it was so heavy. The weight saving with the Sony gear is really noticeable. 4 bodies, 5 lenses, 2 flashes, trigger, chargers, laptop and holdfast straps all in the one case. I'd like to see a 35 1.8 hit the market before our next destination shoot in 2019. The Sigma 35 spoils the slimming-world party a little.

EVF is also super handy in sunny countries, although I'd already seen this benefit during our unusually good summer this year.

Yes touch screen is on

Will try that thanks.

I think you can set the default AF point position in the menu system so that when you click the joystick to reset the point, it defaults to your positon of choice rather than the centre. I do find, as a BB focuser, that my thumb has a habit of knocking the joystick. I do miss Nikon's physical focus point lock switch.

Which flash did you go for?

Yes I think that's what it is I remember seeing a video somewhere that mentioned it but can't remember how to activate / deactivate it.

The wee Godox one. TT350 is it? We're not big flash users tbh. Just wanted a small/light one and it more than does the job.

I was looking at those the other day. Did you get the newer one with the lithium battery or the one that uses 2 x AA's? The newer one is supposed to have autofocus assist beam and the older doesn't.

I have this flash, it's nice and neat, but I find it lashes through batteries, so you need always have a bunch of spares in the bag. I also have a Yongnuo 560 that takes 4x AA but lasts much more than twice as long in my experience. The YN560 is a lot more powerful too so it's weird, no idea why the Godox runs out so quickly

Low light continues shooting on the A73 seems to blow my D750 out of the water.

I need to check if everything was in focus but there was no slow down in the FPS where as my Nikon seemed to start slowing down even on still subjects.

The card slots being backwards and in the wrong order as well as the zoom being the other way are things that the memory needs to adjust too!

The 28-70 isn’t actually that bad for a kit lens!

Oh and I splashed out on a charger using plastic fantastic lol

Well just trying to catch up on the posts here. Seem there are some new users now.

I wonder how many Nikon or canon users going to move ship now they have announce their mirrorless.

Tbh if I was still with Nikon I prob of given the z6 a go along with the adapter and had 2 bodies one for light duties other for when I want the best. But I guess would depend which DSLR I had.

I still think Sony got a better overall package.

The Specs of the Nikon and Canon made the choice a lot easier for me. Which is a good thing as it simplified things!

I have just added a Sony body and have always used pretty much used Nikon. At the moment between me and my wife we have 4 x D750's and 2 x D850's. There will be plenty of people that the Z will work well for, I really wanted to buy a couple of them and had been waiting for some time for the official spec, but the single card slot was a real issue for me personally. I had a quick play with a Z7 ergonomics are much better than the Sony A7III I bought instead and there was a lot I liked about the Z as everything was so familiar. At the moment for me there is no perfect mirrorless system but Sony seemed to be the best option of what is currently available. I will probably get another Sony body and retire a couple of our D750's. My wife on the other hand on first impressions anyway is probably going to stick with DSLR's for now, which isn't ideal but maybe the Sony will grow on her. I don't see us going away from Nikon all together and I would imagine it's likely that we may jump in with whatever the next gen of Nikon mirrorless offers.

The fanboys on other forums are still genuflecting. It'll take Jesus himself and no one less to demonstrate any weaknesses in either of the new Canikon systems before they'll even begin to question their greatness.

I'd wait for more independent reports on how these cameras work with native and especially adapted lenses. Reading stuff on line and reading between the lines I'm still shocked that Canikon have come out with expensive systems that are clearly lagging behind Sony in some key tech areas.

Did you ever buy that Fuji you spent like 3 months pondering over? :D So this is where you went

The body does seem really nice shape wise on the Z6 but the 5.5fps with live view in teh viewfinder is a bit of a put off for me, bearing in mind that Sony does 8fps. A lot of early reviews/views seem to be avoiding this or prehaps they are unaware.

And also the Sony will AF/AE in each of thos fps. The Nikon is locked to frame 1? :D :o

D750 does 6.5fps... quite a backwards step for me.

Be shooting with the Nikon this weekend for which might be its farewell moments!

So when is the Sony announcment?

Its got to be the A7s and lenses I reckon. Too early for a 4th gen and now they have seen Nikon and Canon offerrings they do not need to rush.

Maybe a 35mm F2 much like the size of the 28mm?

The rumor site is reporting announcements around 18/25th September...

https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5...y-and-a-press-conference-on-september-25-too/

Can't be sure what yet but they're thinking it's something big, big event etc...

"But there is more. Many journalists also contacted us to say that they just got an invitation for a major E-mount event around September 18. We have yet no 100% guarantee what’s coming but I am sure this is a BIG event as it involves many days of stay on a location with new Sony gear."

Time will tell :D

I wouldn't be surprised if it was to announce a 500mm or 600mm F4 which I can't afford and will make me sob into my pillow.

I think that anything more than an A7sIII or maybe an A9x and a lens or two if we're lucky would be mega news :D

F1.2? You got some canon envy going down Riz?

The rumor site seems to be saying they're making them and shipping them to Japan so maybe not for a Samsung camera, maybe for Panasonic or someone else?

Japan.... Fujifilm, Nikon? Panasonic..... or a new player ... Kodak!!! :D

Though they are rivals in the electrics world, wouldn't surprise me if the Samsung sensors were for the new FF Panasonic, as they gave up on inter-changeable cameras themselves.

Didn't Fuji say they wouldn't do a FF, APS-C and the bigger one, whatever it's called, being their target.
