The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

35 50 and 85

Also got another A7III looking forward to having 2x of the same body !

Nice, quite tempted by the 35 it’s a lens I’ve always liked on other bodies.

Suffering from a lack of inspiration just now and actually considering thinning down everything to just the A7RIII and a 35mm for now, was going to order the Samyang but if the Sigma is freely available I might go for one of those!

Was speaking to one of the techies at Sigma and they confirmed there will be no need for AF microadjust! Music to my ears

SmallRig L-bracket arrived.

Pros

Very very well machined, this will out live the camera, easily.
Cheap, I got it with 50% off pre-order for £25.
Keeps tripod mount centred to camera
Comes with tools.
It is Arca Swiss plate compatible, both horizontal and vertical.
Access to battery door

Cons

It needs tools to use, the Allan Key is held on by magnets but I feel it'll most likely be lost day to day shooting.
It's heavy, it adds a noticeable weigh to the camera.
The pinky "section" seems to stick out front he contour of the body a bit more.
More slippery than the leather case.

How do I compare it to the Lim's Leather case? fantastic L-bracket, it is much better than those £20 L-bracket you find on Amazon solely on the tripod mount alone without mentioning the build quality. It is machined accurately, to the point it allows for the little strap triangle to stick out.

Although right now I prefer Lim's leather case as I am used to it's texture.

Sigma 105/1.4 to be $1599…I take it £1500.

That's much less than I thought.
It depends how you view it. If you view say the Nikon 85mm f1.4g vs the Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art the Sigma is 30% cheaper, however the 105mm Art is only around 19% cheaper than the Nikon 105mm f1.4, so based on that it sounds a bit expensive. However, I have no idea if those percentages would have been the same when the 85mm Art was newly released (y)

Such a shame, because it delivers great images... That softness on the one side is bloody annoying.

See how the sigma fares although DSLR mount has always impressed me.

What makes you say it's crap design? do you have any references to back this up?

Hmmm let's see it's widely reported to be soft on one side, can't replace just the front element, it's the entire group.... That'll be a write off if you scratch the front element. You need to adjust the front group via shim so if it's decentered it'll stay that way.

Good design? Read the teardown, it's online. I am genuinely gutted about this lens but when spending so much money on a single focal length QC should be a lot better.

How does this have anything to do with decentering?

Why did you quote half my post. You asked about poor design, that's also part of it.

I am not debating if it's designed poorly or not. It may well be. I am trying to work out if there is any evidence that decentering is due to poor design?

No, you're trying to justify your purchase. There's enough evidence out there so stop scratching your head.

You asked why I said it was a poor design, I told you why I think so.
