The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Nice to see the uk lagging behind with stock. A good morning for you!

At least Adobe have now included the A7III in their updates... imagine using the crap that comes with the camera. If there is any. I remember my A7 came with software and it was total and utter cr@p. At least once A7III's are readily available everything else is good to go.

Im getting itchy feet tbh :punch:, early April is the supposed date for mine, Id class early April as 1st week of April with at least a definitive date, how about you?

Been without my camera 4 weeks!

No RAW support from LR would have p@ssed me off

I haven’t paid my mate yet and I’m just about to order an xh1. I was hoping to do a side by side shoot between the a73 and xh1 on Sunday when I do a pre wedding shoot.

*he chased last week and was told early April but it was all very vague.

Did you buy it from Wilkinson?
If so, I spoke to them yesterday and I'm afraid they don't have a date yet.
I'm at the top of the waiting list and I will be getting mine when they receive stock, the problem is they don't know when that will be, I was told April but no more info :(

So it seems that sony are low on the A7iii stock as people struggling to get them..

The stuff that came with my A7 was just awful and looking at the raws processed with it I initially thought I'd made a big mistake.

I just went through that experience, I thought I'd made a big mistake as suddenly anything with text on was coming out terribly, turned out to be the noise reduction wrecking the image but turning it off caused the software to start inserting lines (which for the first few minutes I thought might be down to the pdaf reflection thing). Long story short, a couple of hours of my life I'm not getting back and I had to redo it all in Lightroom.

Affinity Photo seems to support the A7 III from the get go but as it's like opening something in Photoshop it's not much use if you need to do a few hundred photos.

As it's launch date in NA is the 10th I assume most of their production is going their way and more stock should hit our shores after that's dealt with.

Plus they made a few for places at the Photography show at NEC

I would class early part of the month to be within the first 10 days so yeah, pretty much agree with you. However, the Sony rep yesterday at LCE was saying that they 'hope' to get more cameras by mid April IIRC.

Theres building hype and then theres p***ing people off.

Hopefully yours will be though quicker if it's coming from Panamoz. But I think this is a sign of the times, it seems a lot of tech now is hyped and then released in low numbers to keep demand high :( Trying to get a D850 was like trying to find rocking horse s*** in the first few months.

Has sony always been like this with new cameras?

Maybe they just underestimated demand.

After a few new camera launches there've been statements from Sony saying they'd sold 3 times more than they thought they would. As the A7III seems to be quite a step forward and at a good price maybe they've underestimated the demand again.

You know what they say.... all good things come to those who wait. :)

Maybe, but I still think it's partly a marketing ploy. Apple do it, Nikon have, Sony have and I'm sure there's many others.

Just the way business goes unfortunately ....... :(
Roll on 2020 for the Sony A9 II :D lol

It's also better to underestimate demand than overestimate it.
If demand is higher than supply, you can make more, and keep the price (and profit) high
If supply is higher than demand, you have to discount to sell, or be left with unsold units - both of which adversely affect profit.

The trick is to get the numbers right, so there is only a slight shortage, so you can sell as many as possible while maintaining the price, and avoiding people finding alternatives when you can't supply.
Cynics might suggest that big companies might hold back some initial stock so they could ensure demand exceeded supply, and yet be able to respond quickly should the differential be too great.
