Really I cannot see there being a better camera for what I want to do - silent, face detection, super autofocus, excessive fps..

If I was trying to spend less, I could probably have sourced a DSLR to do much the same job without the 'nice to haves' - but I'm not trying to spend less, and I want those features.

Now I don't have any concerns about whether another camera could have gotten a (fleeting) shot...

As a complete aside, I was thinking - wow you have just used up 1/200th of your expected "shutter life". However, just checked some google and in an interview a Sony rep announced that the A7R II has a massive 500k shutter life.

Will be interesting to know what the A9 is. Obviously I know that "shutter life" and reality obviously don't mix but I'm a sucker for claimed statistics.

If your shooting silently, which most Sony A9 owners probably will be, it doesn't affect shutter life as there is no moving parts during silent shutter use :D
And yes, the mechanical shutter is rated to 500k shutter clicks.
 
The SL, and now Fuji have a screen on the top detailing aperture/shutter/iso

The Sony may benefit from this, I looked down at the the A9 to check the shutter speed, out of habit, and I can't see it.

Might be stretching the budget! The 28-70+50 = £479. I'm already pushing my limits!! And need something wide too as my be doing few pics for friends wedding in few months

Weather sealing, weather sealing would be nice. I've seen better water sealing on a sponge. Ahem.

What's the problem with the A9 weather sealing? I kept reading it had weather sealing, I was happy to take it out in the rain at this.

I don't think its as bad as some people make out but probably not as robust as the Nikon / Canon pro bodies. But I haven't heard of a Sony A9 failing due to weather.

Yeah my comments are more pointing towards A7R III - perhaps the A9 has better weather sealing on the bottom of the camera.

yeah but those are weather sealed (like in real life and not only on paper or theoretically)

Sony's (e-mount bodies') weather sealing is only as good as the paper its written on :P

Why would it get 42mp when Sony already do a high mp body? If they're aiming it at press and sports photographers, speed, AF, DR and buffer is what they'll improve on. 42mp would be more of a hindrance than a boon if that's the market they're after.

I've always heard photographers championing high mp because we now have cheaper storage. But this ignores that more than ever people are not printing their images. I'd guess that most pictures end up being viewed on screens and websites at about 3mp.

I have used it in rain and snow more than twice. But the weather sealing ain't that good especially compared to competitors (eg: Oly or even Sony's own a-mount bodies)

i don't believe that for a second because I don't think there is any manufactured that'll support this. You can read any manufactures T&C for what is covered under warranty and I am willing to bet a penny or two that water damage is not.
According to that sentence I can take my A7RII swimming (because I like swimming) and I can claim it under warranty repairs.

He's talking about his specific scenario and the A9. Not submerging a different camera.

I am pretty sure A9 doesn't have a 'special warranty' that other Sony e-mount bodies don't have. They all come under the same warranty T&C.
You don't even need to have an A9 to be part of their pro support.

As I said above in an edit - You can read any manufactures T&C for what is covered under warranty and I am willing to bet a penny or two that water damage is not.

I am not questioning whether he abuses his gear or not, I am questioning his claim that water damage is covered under warranty.

The way Sony are heading is going to be higher mega pixel counts, it's what the G Master lenses were designed to meet.
I think would be great idea if Sony had a intelligent down-sampling option in-body, so the higher mega pixel bodies say 42 48, 70 - 100mp bodies would have the option to select a preferred resolution to keep IQ and file sizes optimum.
You wan't good IQ and DR with less noise..... easy, take a photo at 100mp and downsample down to 24mp, watch that noise vanish at high ISO. :D
