The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

There's a used Samyang 85mm f1.4 on eBay though clearly not in the league of the Sony af that Riz has £190 + pp :)

thats a great deal. i already have the canon 85 1.2 so if i get another 85 that will have to go.

@woof woof i don't mind using manual focus for landscape actually. problem is I'm not too familiar with whats good and what isn't with the older wide stuff.

Just thinking is the canon option not that good then is it fd or eos :)

no its great its the LII version.
i'd like to give it a full run out again on a shoot. it won't af as fast and won't be as sharp as the g master, but I'm excited to see what it can do.

One of the things that attracted me to the Minolta Rokkors was that their 24mm f2.8 is supposedly one of the classic 24mm designs. I read somewhere that it's one of the best 24mm lenses...ever... but I'd take that with a very large pinch of salt as I don't believe that old SLR lenses can live with the image quality of the newer very high performance lenses we've seen come to market in recent years. The Rokkor was grabbed by Leica and badged, if that matters :D

Is that the one which Minolta owners loved because it shared a design with the Leica R 24/2.8, but that Leica owners hated because it shared a design with the Minolta Rokkor 24/2.8? :D

Maybe, but I don't remember reading anyone being swayed too much by the Leica connection as Minolta owners are far too cultured and intelligent to be swayed by such frippery. Leica have badged more than just that lens haven't they?

I did read one review which said that the front rotated... mine doesn't so dunno what they're talking about. I have the 49mm version. I've read that some think that the earlier 55mm version was optically better and I've also read that there was no difference other than the build. Whatever. They're the same floating element design, I think, and possibly the best of the mass market 24mm lenses of the time.

I've posted pictures taken with mine in this very thread :D

Rumor site quotes DXO on the 50mm f2.8 macro...

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/dxo-tests-new-sony-50mm-fe-macro-outstanding-sharpness/#disqus_thread

"Shooting full-frame, a 50mm prime is a really handy option for general use and portrait photography, as well as a relatively lightweight and portable lens. Adding 1:1 macro focusing, the Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro offers greater functionality for Sony A7 series owners, making it an even more versatile optic at a sensible $499 price point. Sharpness is outstanding on the Sony A7R II, achieving 37 P-Mpix of the Sony A7R II’s total 42Mp resolution, and it’s the third-sharpest lens we’ve tested on this camera. It’s not as sharp as the Zeiss Sonnar T* 55mm f/1.8 and lets in half the amount of light using the maximum aperture, but it’s also half the cost of the $998 Zeiss and offers macro."

Straight to DXO...

https://www.dxomark.com/Reviews/Sony-FE-50mm-f-2.8-Macro-lens-review

"Specific use case
With exceptional and very nearly uniform sharpness of around 80% acutance at f/2.8, the FE 50mm f/2.8 is a high-quality lens both for shooting portraits and for low-light work on the Sony A7R II. The heavy vignetting at f/2.8 might require some post-production correction depending on the subject and composition, but of course some mild corner shading will often enhance a portrait. For macro photography, the 50mm focal length is slightly wider than many macro lenses, which could be an advantage depending on your subject and background. Sharpness at the minimum f/16 aperture for longer depth-of-field macro shots remains very good with acutance around 70%, too. The Sony FE 50mm f/2.8 Macro hits peak sharpness between f/4 to f/8, at which resolution is phenomenal and uniform."

Resolution is phenomenal and uniform eh? Well... :D

I have a Sony FE fit Samyang 85mm too! Bought it a few months back from ffordes for a wedding, but never used it. I actually bought a Nikon fit one first, but the whole adapter thing put me off, so I purchased the Sony fit. It's in perfect nick (doesn't look used at all), with the box etc - I've just never gotten round to putting it up on the classifieds! If anyone's interested though, i'd be happy to sell to a fellow member :)

I heard the Canon 135mm L is very very good combo on A7RII.
I am trying to resist the GAS at the moment, so no new lens this months (I hope to resist. Having Sony gives you so many options :) )

Meanwhile one photo by me from my recent trip to Thailand.

I've got naughty pics like that but wasn't sure if allowed to post!

Sorry if my image sparkled some discussions.
It was intended just to show that even with APS-C lens you can achieve good results (with no flash) on FF Sony A7

By the way Christmas is coming and the GAS is getting worse for me.
Was looking at Laowa 105mm for some time and last night was looking again.
Also look at the Rizvan thread with that innocent G lens left, but too much for Christmas :)

This will end bad.

I took look at my innocent G Master lenses and think ooooo errrrr shall I keep them for the future Sony A9..... :D but in reality I don't need them :(

Discussion is good as was your image :)

I admit suffering a bit of GAS relating to @Rizvan gm lens with only a A7 Mii they seem huge overkill with the R model they review as stunning:sony:

You going to regret it and you know it...

Life is not about regret, it's only a material luxury item and I'm pretty happy with my transition into a Fuguru :D
Until you want better low light performance, a really shallow dof shot or that special combination of resolution, clarity and quality of file that lies just out of reach of APS-C cameras.

Could be all true, but reading reviews that the XT2 is better in low light than any sony but not too sure if it true lol..

Still here with my lovely sony kit ;)

I know you mentioned that the GF does not mind you buying gear you might get more go on buy it posts with so many GF's :D

She's a funny lady... she's a successful business woman with a good job, two houses and a nice car but when out shopping she's incredibly tight and always goes for the bargains but when she sees me ogling cameras or lenses she just smiles and tells me to get on with it. She does have an incredibly expensive watch though.
