The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I think that sums it up Alan is still saying he is happy with the 2013 tech may be wrong

Mind many like hifi I still play records if it's okay stick with it ;)

I was just commenting on the same old thing that seems to dominate this thread....Sony v Fuji :D

I do genuinely think that just about anything is good enough these days unless you have some special requirement that filters the gear and narrows your choices like me ruling DSLR's out because they're too big and wanting to use manual lenses. My requirements made the A7 just about the only game in town. If you don't have special requirements even a Fuji will do :D or in my case even MFT will do.

The starburst will be a result of the lens being stopped down to F11.

You got that correct

Reason for high ISO so I could get shutter as honestly it was hand held [emoji106] well leaning against wall. I wanted to capture image before a car goes past on road

Why is there a problem with it??

Well done with that. Who needs a tripod! :D

Not sure when but I am getting a yen for a 50-55mm lens

I think I am correct even in legacy glass 45mm is not available

I know a few mm sounds odd but my main reason if I did buy one is for panorama shots 35mm is a bit short 70mm a fraction long most of my Canon panoramas when I look back tended to be 40-45mm

Contenders.
Canon fd50 f1.2
Samyang manual 50mm f1.4
Sony 50mm f1.8

Am I missing any real other offers that adapt easily on the Sony

:ty:

There are 45mm legacy lenses, certainly Monolta did more than one AFAIK.

If you're going AF why not the excellent 55mm?

Legacy wise I have Olympus 50mm f1.8 and f1.4, Canon FD F1.4, Minolta 50mm f1.2 and f1.4 and my Siggy 50mm f2.8. Of them all I'd say that the Minolta f1.4 is the best, the f1.2 has its charms, the Siggy macro is very very good indeed and the Oly f1.8 is gorgeous because it's so small and cute and just is :D

I just got a email from Sony Europe asking me to complete survey for my Sony A7!!! :D

Dear Rizvan,

Sony runs numerous research sessions with consumers each year in order to obtain feedback on our products and services.

Our User Experience team are specifically interested in your experience and would value your comments in order to improve our products and services.

They would like to hear your views on Alpha 7 Camera and would be very grateful if you could spare 5 minutes of your time to take part in this survey.

Thank you in advance for helping Sony give you a better user experience.

Yours sincerely

Sony Europe Team.

My fault typo on the Sony indeed I meant 55mm thank you for the list I can look into these :)

The Contax Zeiss C/Y 45mm f/2.8 Tessar pancake springs to mind immediately. By reputation, it's very good for the money.

Two in at Ffordes at the moment, an earlier AE and a later MM

I've been tempted to acquire one myself as 45mm feels like good focal length for me.
Thank you Rob

Never heard of ffordes or contax the info on the site is a big lacking for mount I imagine I could buy a contax f mount adapter :)

I got one of those maybe 8 weeks ago 1 question was professional or hobby answered hobby they closed the survey in truth I was not impressed my views are as valid as other users:(
Correction I just received one again now must have heard the Sony A7 thread is looking for a new guru :D

Ffordes are my go-to dealer for legacy lens purchases. Frequently cheaper than anywhere else and I've always been very satisfied with what I've bought from them (which is quite a lot now).

I had trouble with internal reflections on a couple of cheaper Contax-NEX adapters I had. it affected all three of my Zeiss C/Y lenses (28/2.8 Distagon, 50/1.7 Planar and 85/2.8 Sonnar) - glossy black paint inside and/or no other measures to control it. In the end I stumped up for a Novoflex and it's been plain sailing since.

Can I just check if this is correct: Sony never did introduce a firmware update to control minimum shutter speed in Auto ISO for any of the a7 bodies, and the only way to get it is the a7RII / a7SII?

Pretty much, yeah. I think they introduced it from the A7II onwards. Certainly not for the original A7 though. :(

No we can't set Minimum shutter speed on the A7ii for Auto iso.. as you say the upper 2 you can

I've bought from Ffords a few times without problems.

If I'm looking for something they're one of the places I look first.

As it happens, I spotted a reasonably-priced and minty-looking FDn 200mm f/2.8 on Ffordes site while I was scouting for the Contax 45mm.

I am now expecting its delivery to my office early next week :D

Oh heck had you spending money :) hope you enjoy it
Just looked at novoflex £160 ish I guess really if your stumping out that much you need a fair ambition for legacy glass for using with it.

Are you looking at adapters? I have three Novoflex adapters, FD, Zuiko and Rokkor and they all cost in the region of £90 each. Have they shot up in price?

PS.
Just checked and they have gone up... the FD is £104 at Speedgraphic.

Yes on eBay they seem to be about £160 for the contax maybe the fd is less expensive at £104 will look at speedgraphic

Do you have any idea what the difference are between the AE and MM please also from your experience have you found them sharp and good colour contrast must admit they look really small :)

Yes contax or most others £104 at speedgraphic daft question why are they saying that you can focus at infinity I thought that was a lens function

With some lenses the registration distance is wrong so you need a correcting lens in the adapter otherwise you can't focus on far away things... so they state that the adapter will focus at infinity to comfort and reassure us and make us buy it :D

Also watch out as some adapters are made for APS-C and vignette on FF bodies. I had this issue with a cheap adapter I bought off evil bay which was described as being suitable for Sony Nex. My 24mm lens vignette badly but 28mm and longer were ok.

:ty: Makes sense :)

Just thinking about my panoramic work flow, I use full manual for shooting the images in raw and merge in Lightroom

Prior to merging I apply lens correction that adobe kindly supplies in Lightroom will I run into lens distortion when merging an older MF lens would you imagine?

The 45mm I can't speak for from personal experience, but the other Contax C/Ys are some of my favourite lenses. I can't fault them

I'm not in the best position to compare AE vs MM versions of lenses. Plenty of discussion out there if you want to look for it.

By and large, I understand that some of the AE's had 'ninja star' bokeh due to the design of the aperture blades, which changed with the later MMs. Other people contend that the AEs, which were mostly made in Germany, are better built than Japan-made MMs. IIRC MMs can still be serviced at Contax dealers, while AEs cannot.

Keep that cheap 70-200 will save you loooking for another one when you switch back, remember the force is strong with Sony

I be following him soon I reckon

No worry Andrew if your sure it's the right thing for you I hope you enjoy the switch :)

That the thing lol.

Maybe you come over too lol to ease the pain

What have you bought I assume you have traded your camera and lens Was it the kit lens 55mm and 70-200?

Yes that correct a trade in deal been agreed when stock comes in with the choice of backing out of decided to do got time to decide [emoji106]
