Sony 16G specs leak

Looks pretty small and light. @snerkler might be the small UWA you were looking for?
If it turns out to be at least as good as viltrox I own, will definitely swap...
Could well be (y)

After yesterday’s debacle with the Tamron lens mike I came to a conclusion last night that I’m chasing a dream that doesn’t exist , so have decided to stick with Olympus and return the Sony items while I have time .
That's such a shame it didn't work out for you, Jeff
I had the a6600 with the 70-350 and found it to be an amazing combination.
The only reason I sold them was that all my work colleagues had a whip round and bought me the a7c when I retired.
I've often been tempted to move back to the a6700 + 70-350
Maybe some day ;)

went through all the variables mike I am pretty sure the 200-600 would have been a step to far , any of the 100-400 lenses would only have given me 600mm effective reach @ F6.3 . whereas my standard Olympus walkabout hand holdable rig of OM1 +300 F4 +1.4 tc gives me a effective 840mm reach at F5.6 also with Birds Eye i.d .no brainer really

Well I took all my kit (except my RX10iv !) to Wex today which will just about give me enough for the A6700 and 70-350 :D

Will probably purchase from Cotswold Cameras but am planning to have a hunt about this weekend.

Longer term I'll likely get a 10-20 for landscapes and stick a Raynox on for macro work - I may even sell the RX10 one day but only once I'm sure

You should get 10-20% more selling through here vs. WEX (or let someone save a lot versus buying from Wex) - worth putting a few bits up on the classifieds

My experience has been people trying to lowball and in the end getting very little extra over what a store offers if anything so I don’t bother anymore and just ask for quotes from three or four shops and go with whoever offers the most (y)

I was put off using camera stores given they offered a very low value for the items and they weren't unpopular items unlikely to sell or anything, I was wanting to get shot of a camera recently and thought I'd try a store again deciding on the lowest value I'd take first. I was surprised though that the quote was a reasonable price (almost exactly the same price someone is selling the same camera here for) and within five minutes of requesting the quote the collection had been organised for the camera. Still waiting for the money but I'm not expecting any issues.

I've found that offers can sometimes vary quite a lot hence why I tend to approach several shops. For example once cameraworld offered £650 for a lnes of mine vs £520 from everywhere else so I bit their hand off ;)

I’ve been stung by a few stores downgrading the offer on receiving the lens making the deal even worse, so prefer relative certainty on here. I’m Transparent on condition and images and found the community here trust worthy. EBay more of a gamble, especially when they weight everything towards the buyer.

As ever it’s a balance of perceived value - perceived ROI in time, money and effort

Yeah we've all had our own experiences and do what's best for us. I've never had a store reduce an offer after seeing the lens, in fact once WEX actually upped the offer as they said it was in better condition than they were expecting  :$

A6700 purchased through Cotswolds for £999, 70-350 from eBay ('immaculate' - we shall see) for £450 so should be up and running in a week or so.

Going to try a few side by side shots with the RX10iv to see if there is much in it. If the A6700 + 70-350 is worse it'll be funny let's be honest but I doubt it - probably similar but I would hope for a better hit rate with the A6700 :)

If it goes well I'll pick up a Raynox for macro and a 10-20 for landscapes (oh and also need to update my Photoshop Elements 2018 probably to 2024 so I can open the RAW files). All good fun

Sounds like a plan Mike ,you will be pleased with the AF on the camera and iq should definetly be better

Nice, I hope you enjoy it. I'd almost put my mortgage on the fact that the A6700 and 70-350mm will give better images than the RX10, and if you do find the A6700 is worse I'd suggest it's likely due to user error and lack of familiarity (y)

Yes agreed, I’ll report back once I have some shots to share :)

Nice, what's the vantage point? Somewhere in Cliftonwood but I can't work out exactly where? Or you lucky enough to have a house with the harbour view?

To be fair I thought I should update this, had a bit of a shocker when the quote came back as adjusted - they've massively slashed the price of the camera due to 'dust' which I don't get at all. I'd checked the camera carefully especially for dust with it being a fixed lens camera and there wasn't any, I had been quite pleased about the entire process and already bought another camera. Lesson learnt clearly.

Certainly does and rumoured S1rii might just be a perfect body for it.
Shame about Sony imposing limitations on TCs and 15fps. Seems like a stupid move.
TC’s is more of an issue than frame rate for me. 15fps is more than enough, but you could always do with extra reach ;)

Well my 70-350 came through today - looks immaculate right enough (as described on eBay) but can't test it yet as the 6700 has still to arrive and I have nothing to mount it on!

Feels well made and remarkably compact, I just wish they had pushed it out a wee bit and made an apsc optimised 100-400 which would have been a bit bigger I guess, but maybe not by much - that would have been a real winner... Anyway 600 equivalent v 525 equivalent is not that much in real life so I shouldn't complain

If it had been a bit longer it might have cannibalised sales even more than it probably has.

Hmm - quite possibly! It does feel like there's a bit of a gap in the market there (ie a small-ish apsc orientated 100-400) but maybe not of enough interest for tamron/sigma etc to be bothered making one...

Tamron has done not one but two ultrazooms more or less in that ballpark.

The 16~300mm, which I use on an A65, is a very useful piece of kit...

Camera Sony A65 and Tamron 16-300 on papers DSC01407.JPG

I haven't tried the later 18~300mm but it seems well regarded.

I used to have one of these! A better lens than most people thought if I recall correctly. It's the long end I'm interested in now though eg a 100-400

Looking at the size and weight it doesn't appear to be much smaller than the 16-35mm PZ (although I'll need to wait to see a side by side), and only 50g lighter so I'm not usre it's worth getting over the PZ unless you're doing astro?

As a current 10-20mm PZ owner I'm not a lover of the PZ :hungover:

yeah i need the f1.8 for astro, so far there's been some mixed reviews on the coma. having said that viltrox isn't perfect either.
Think i am mostly convinced to get one. Viltrox will go up in sales

I love how I can use your new posts on the for sale section as indicator of new lens releases

For Astro, why not go the 14 1.8? There’s a used one on Clifton cameras for £899, similar price no doubt, but better performance in corners (or at least based on petapixel review).

Only benefit is the 67mm filter thread vs needing bespoke holder for the 14mm, but again, from astro you’re not really going to be using filters I’d guess.

I had one, and you guessed it filters is the issue :(
While I don't need it for astro, I do use the lens for more than just astro.

Petapixel seems to be exaggerating the issue and others seem to be downplaying it. I imagine truth is somewhere in between.

New samyang 14-24mm that's light and allows filters, wonder how it compares to the sigma equivalent

That looks interesting, I wonder how much it will cost.
