The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

I am in the market for one, what’s the price

The last 3 sold on Ebay BIN for £385, £399 and £399.99 plus postage so I would be looking for something similar but I will do photos etc and put it on the forum tomorrow. I have to do them anyway as I am currently putting my other Sony gear on Ebay as I have a £1 listing.

Does anyone know where I can buy a camo neoprene lens cover set from?

It's for a Sony 200-600mm. Mines getting a little worse gor wear

Wex have them but I don't fancy spending £100 on one

Thanks

Les :)
This is where I got mine.

I'm sure it was £680 last week. The pound is so devalued that even the exporters are starting to get more expensive. I nearly pulled the trigger on an A1 when it went to £4700 and it is now away up to £5200 on Panamoz
Getting worse! Tammy 70-180 now £789!

Nice, it's scorching here too. What lens were these shot with?

It is one of those expenses that can't really be duplicated for less money, on Sony at least.
Very true. It's a lens I'd definitely consider if I made a living from photography, or my 6 numbers came up on a Saturday (y). I'd probably choose this over the 600mm f4 and just use a TC if I needed the reach.

The Sony A1 combined with the 400mm 2.8 cannot actually do magic...

The hit rate with animal eye AF, C-AF at 20FPS against a small dog sprinting towards the camera.. was a little disappointing.

All great but the 2nd to last is cracking.

As you may have seen my A9-II struggles in this regard with our dog. Does it struggle more with the dog in the first pic (sorry I’ve forgotten their names) as it’s got similar characteristics to my dog, i.e. small with dark eyes on a dark mask/face? I’m convinced this is part of the problem with ours, no real visible sclera to help define the eyes against the colour of the fur.

I'm not sure, Newt doesn't move around much - haven't noticed any problem with it.

How’s it compare vs the 100-400mm and 70-200mm GM2 and are the misses back focussed?

@dancook

This is why you need to lend me your 400mm Dan :) - although I'm still getting to grips with the focus lock on the a9 - loving this new addition to my Sony flock

I realised I didn’t put my A1 in sports mode! (C3) I think release priority would have been active if I did, might have helped.

I did also take a photo of these baby coots, heavy crop, but only kept it for the record for the local nature reserve facebook page - i'd go back this morning and hope for some nice light but i'm baking bread and watering the garden just now

I have my A9-ii set to focus priority and it still has misses with the dog running towards the camera, the misses are always back focussed. I have AF sensitivity set to max (5) as I understand that this setting is best at alterations in subject distance (as well as moving to other nearer targets) but I might try setting it to 1 at some point to see if a more 'sticky' sensitivity setting works better.

Anyone know how to get zebras on playback other than the histogram screen? I don't want them on when I'm shooting, too distracting/triggering. But want to review a shot afterwards. The display is teeny tiny on the "histogram" screen. (A1 here but may be same on other cameras)

Cheers

I've just checked the online help and it's not very useful tbh. If you have zebra off while shooting and then turn it back on when you playback does it not show then? I know this works for highlight blinkies for stills but I don't shoot video (well maybe once or twice).

You’re so “new age” Dan

isn't that "old age"!? :D They are wholesome hobbies for preserving my mental health :)

Been busy in the garden lately! built a greenhouse and growing lots of veg.

Just got a loafnest, and made my sourdough starter! will make no knead loaves, first test in the oven - along with a banana bread... although we still have significant carrot cake left.

Sounds wholesome Dan :) I love that stuff
