Aye was thinking video though where my shutter would be quite slow and if I'm wide open at 1.4 then maybe even in Scotland it could be too bright! lol

I really like the image quality from the a7iii and as the a7c has the same sensor etc I thought it would make a decent replacement but slightly smaller and lighter.

I've been looking for something smaller than my Panasonic TZ100 and got a TZ70 for £73 including postage, just a bit thinner than the TZ100. I think the image quality is ok. Max zoom...

Unfortunately the zoom control on the top panel was sticky so it went back, shame as I thought £73 was a very good price.
 
Are these close up lenses better than using extension tubes. I just have I think a 16mm and 10mm extension tube for macro at the minute.

depends on your lens and how much magnification you are looking to get.
for longer lenses the close up lenses are better and for shorter focal lengths extension tubes are better to maximise the magnification.
 
Possibly not, probably not mine anyway as they were only a cheap set so if you look closely you'll probably see distortion. For natural subjects like flowers and leaves I think they're fine and one advantage is that you don't have to remove the lens.

I find that you get the most wiggle room with 24/28/35mm lenses and progressively less with longer. With 85mm there's next to no room for manoeuvre to alter the framing.

depends on how close you want to get or your desired macro magnification.
you can get respectable results with your tamron 28-200mm. have you tried that to start with?
may be try adding a raynox DCR-150or 250 to it. that's the cheapest and most effective way to get into it.

if you are just trying to satisfy the GAS itch then sigma 105mm DN or sony 90mm macro are both great.

Macro lenses are usually nice and usually give good image quality with few issues but they're usually f2.8, sometimes f2.5 or something like that, sometimes larger and heavier and potentially more expensive plus quite often slower to focus than a non macro.

Back in my DSLR days I had a Sigma 150mm which was nice, these days I just have a film era Sigma 50mm f2.8. An old manual lens might be worth looking at as macro / close up is generally done using manual focus but some aren't 1:1 if that matters to you. My old Sigma 50mm is 1:1.

Yeah 28-200 works okay with the 16mm extension tube.

I'd go for something with manual focus really AF would be useless for me.
I think the Laowa 100mm seems a good option. Shame it doesn't at least have EXIF though that's a big downside.

I used to have laowa in EF version with the cheap commlite smart adapter which gave EXIF information plus electronic aperture control and IBIS etc. But the issue with laowa 100mm macro (enough to annoy me to sell it) is that the focus throw is very very small especially the a macro lens that focuses down to 2:1 magnification. So making fine critical focus adjustments is very hard. I have used old cheap 50mm f1.8 primes with longer focus throws than this!

Otherwise image quality wise it absolutely brilliant.

If you don't mind the money the voigtlander 110mm f2.5 macro probably the best macro lens ever made.

My 35GM arriving on Monday, shipped today but looks like DPD aren't doing Saturday deliveries or LCE just didn't want to pay the extra for it (though they have done it in the past)

They do ship on saturdays, i recieved my nvidia 3090 FE gtx last saturday via dpd and i did not even selecy a saturday delivery
 
Round here DPD work Saturdays and Sundays. Don't know if it's an extra cost.

That's too much ideally I'd be looking at a max of £500.
The Samyang might be ideal even with its less than stellar performance.

So what dictates GM Vs G? There doesn't seem a hard rule.

14mm f1.8 sounds good. I don't think I'll like the GM price though.
 
I wish they’d stop messing about with all these primes and bring out a new 70-200mm f2.8 ;)

Some people would love a quality 28mm. I have the f2 and it's good enough for me but for whatever reason Sony haven't seen fit to introduce a top quality 28mm, they've introduced very good lenses on either side but missed 28mm so far.

Are you liking the 35mm and +4 combination?

I used to hate fitting and removing ND's but I don't seem to mind using the close focus adapter.

Just ordered a Leica 28mm 1.4 today for a bargain price of £3700 - often see them £4-4.5K used, so should sell for a profit if/when time comes

The TechArt adapter is on it's way then I'll be able to autofocus with it on the Sony..

Will you be using that on a Sony? I've read of issues with some wider lenses so just wondering if it'll perform well on a Sony?

28mm, it's an odd one as some are also screaming for a quality Voigtlander 28mm but they've not done one yet either.

That might not be to everyone's or anyone's taste but I took a few of these and this is the one that seems to work best for me. I really wanted a portrait orientation one but they didn't really work for me.

I initially thought this lens was very nice then I changed my mind because of susceptibility to flare but I've now switched back to thinking that if you keep flare susceptibility in mind it's a very nice lens.

I'll at least try it on the Sony, is you concern with the lens or the techart adapter?

Here's a shot of the 28mm lux on the Sony A1 that someone sent me to look at.

still got the M10M hanging around though - perhaps it'll convince me to keep that as well..
 
The lens. I've read that some of the wider ones give issues in the corners but that may be wider than 28mm?

28mm wise I have the Sony f2, Zuiko, FD, Rokkor and Nikon AI-S f2.8's.
