Congratulations to RJ on this week's Staff Photo of the Week.

A timeless classic, beautifully shot and giving a real sense of scale and perspective.

Well Done !!!
This was posted in the "Show us yer film shots then!" thread. The specific post is here.

This was easily one of the highlights of our recent holiday; we had the Great Wall nearly to ourselves for our two-day hiking trip.

What time of the day was this this shot? It's so impressive for there to be so few people in shot, I think I spy a few really far of in the distance and I don't think it's a long exposure is it?

It's about 7:30am; not too long after sunrise. We had hiked 10km on the wall the previous day and were staying overnight at a local farmhouse nearby, so we were able to get back up to the wall before sunrise. Fortunately for us, most tourists don't arrive until a few hours later, as they simply come in from Beijing for the day.

I think that there were two people actually on the wall at the time, but there were also a few photographers on a cliff just to the side of the wall who were photographing the sunrise (you can just make them out in the centre top part of the photograph, way off in the distance).

It was so unbelievably hazy, you could actually stare directly at the sun.

I don't think it's a long exposure is it?

It's not a long exposure, no. I shot this handheld at 1/125 sec.

Yeah it's them that I spotted up on the hill  it sounds absolutely amazing...I guess I'll have to go and find your thread to see some more photos :)

Well done RJ, a great shot in any medium.

It's a great phpto, and the whole set is lovely.

Also the first film winner of staff photo of the week, so congratulations for that too as evidence that film still has a place alongside digital in producing stunning images

RJ, you should be very proud, Great photograph. Congratulations.

That really is stunning. Faultless and appeals on so many levels.

Well done RJ. I'd just like to be there- never mind be fortunate enough to be able to take the shot.
