We've been discussing how best to acknowledge and recognise some of the talent and skill on the forum for quite a while.
Not just the fantastic shots that we see for the competitions and challenges through the year, but the stuff that you as members contribute to the forum on a day to day basis.

So here it is.
From this week onwards, each mod and admin will be looking out for outstanding images posted on the forum and every Sunday night one will be selected as the image of the week.
No prizes I'm afraid, but the member gets to revel in the glory of it and even gets a front page mention on the forum home page.

It's our way of saying thank you to everyone who contributes to keeping the forum going by way of sharing their work.


So without further ado . . .
. . . Drum roll please . . .

I'm pleased to announce that the thread nominated for the first image of the week is this one from mattd85.
We all agreed that not only did this show a high degree of technical skill, but it was also a unique and fascinating wildlife moment presented with a good lump of humour.

PS. Incase you were wondering, we're using week numbers to identify the winner each week. Makes it easy to find past winners etc, hence this first week is Week 27, commencing the 1st July :)

Love the idea of this thread. I hadn't seen this photo before as I don't visit every section of the forum, so the idea of a picture of the week is a great way for me to catch up with the best of the best.

Great idea! It'll move some of us from our usual favourite genre's :)
And a well deserved first feature!
 
Agreed its a great idea and as mentioned it may see some of us trying out new genres of photography.

Thanks again. I feel very privileged. This forum had been crucial in my learning journey, to think I joined this forum 2 years ago and didn't even know what DOF and Bokeh even meant lol!!! This forum and its wise and wonderful members helped me get where I am today.

Thanks again to all the Mods who have made it possible.

It was well deserved Matt. Lovely shot :)

Between us all in the staffroom we all like different things and different genres, so there should be some good variety featuring over the coming weeks.
Hopefully it'll give everybody an opportunity to see some of the talent in sub forums they might not otherwise visit.
 
Great idea and what a superb shot to start it all off. Would love to see that blown up on a wall somewhere :)
 
That is so frikkin' cool. Reminds me of films like Antz and Toy Story.

Great idea and cracking image Matt. I can almost hear the Beach boys tunes in the background lol!

Just an idea to elevate those chosen. How about a custom title "Image of the Week winner" or something better that only the winners get?

Now I can easily see why that has got chosen to be the picture of the week!

I shall be following this new feature with interest. :)
