The Aim Of Your Photography

I looked at your Rugby photography earlier, very gritty. Those guys are machines and I think you capture it all very well.
 
There was an interesting article in last weeks BJP, an interview with the founder of istockphotos.com. She was basically saying that there is no distinction between professional and amateur part from pro photographers are getting all upset that "ordinary" people can make a lot of money from selling images that they enjoyed taking. I regard myself as a professional photographer in that i make enough money from it, but ive seen a lot of images from people from every walk of life - and im not just talking macros of flowers and close-ups of animals either.
 
I'm brand new to photography, Wanting to learn but very limited to the equiptmnt i can use. I shoot for fun and have no plas of becoming a pro/earn money from.
Preserving the moments is what i read earlier and i guess thats me :)

I'm 21 andso i still have a lot of time to learn everything.
 
I've just finished in college where I took an A level in photography, and other things.. but I was mainly there for photography. I'd like to go into wildlife photography, without knowing where to really start I'm just looking for a job now, so I'm able to buy the equipment I need. I plan to go ou tin my spare time to take pictures, and send them into magazines and that. Then maybe go on safaris and stuff where I can take pictures of what I want to. Then see where it takes me..

Then eventually when it's time to settle down, I'd like to open my own studio. That's the rough plan.. things never really turn out the way you think so yeah, I have my rough destination just have to wait and see where I end up.
 
I think if your already in a good position to earn decent money form a career then you shouldnt worry about earning money from photography BUT if you can earn a little extra its a bonus.

Any job can become boring if you lose your ambition, Photography is not the answer for people looking for a way into the creative industry especially if you have never had any creative flare before.
 
Ooooh lot of good thought there people and I agree with a lot of what has already been said. Joxby (although it did sound a little cynical got it about right for me) I'm passionate about photography, I'm fortunate, people will actually pay me to take pictures. Do I want that? Actually no!

I earn a good living at my "day job" I don't think for one minute that I could match that with photography. I also don't want to lose the joy of taking pictures. This year I have learned how to take pictures of people and I'm really enjoying that. My friends like my landscapes and I love being in the open air. I'm helping a really good wedding tog and I hope that he will be able to use me as a "second" when he needs an extra angle. I don't want to be under the pressure of doing it myself, that is not the point of doing something I love.

My ambitions? I've recently done some photojournalist work that I would not normally have done and that was actually better than I thought, the photo editor proclaimed that my work stood up to anything that crossed his desk so I was rather pleased with that.

I think that ultimately it could be a safety net for my job but it is not something that I actively want to pursue.

That does not mean that I don't want to do it well. I want to be as technically and artistically as good as I can be.

My ambition is to be capable of turning out professional results despite the fact that I don't make my living from it.
 
I am into photography, just for fun but am always looking to improve, It is also something both the wife an I can enjoy together.
 
I take picturs for fun, but if in the future I could make enough money to buy the kit I want I'd be more than happy.
 
I do it just for fun.:thumbs:

I have the talent of a small dead dogfish :shrug: when it comes to art and drawing, I would struggle to draw a stick therefore I use a camera to record what I see :D

Maybe one day I might produce an image that earns a few quid but I am not worried if it doesn't :thumbs:

I have literally turned down three weddings this last week alone and advise people that I am not prepared to chance their big day as you cant really all go back the following week.

I have a tip for anyone looking for weddings... just put something on your website saying you dont do weddings....it seems to attract em :(

I cant remember how many times I have been asked and I ahve been cornered into doing two that I couldnt get out of without insulting good friends or family.. both worked out well.. both I hated doing and each time make double the promise that I will never do another... I really hate it and 2 in 6 yrs aint too bad... but another 2 in the next 6 years would really upset me...

I applaud anyone who does weddings on a regular basis.. I couldn't.. the stress alone would kill me . I hope to never do one again...
