The 52 Weeks of Daysleeping - week 25 "Development" Reshoot

Thanks for all the comments on the last photo - much appreciated

SO.

Week 5 - Opposites

Ahh, easy I thought - tons of ideas there. Or not. The snow has equalled a tough week at work and I havn't really had a chance to think about my 52 until today. Apparently as well as halting public transport and being too dangerous to drive snow also removes peoples ability to walk to work - even though they only live 30 minutes away and are perfectly fit normally :suspect:

Thankfully I had booked a day off work today (impecable timing if I do say so myself!) so I have been playing with my Raynox 250 and come up with this:

Hot / Cold... Fire / Ice... I'm sure it's melting a bit so I'll throw in Solid / Liquid too...

Week5-Opposites.jpg

It is genuine snow collected from my driveway lit by a single tea-light. C&C welcome... and roll on week 6, I'm loving doing this 52!

Almost looks like sunrise over a glacier!

Great image and an opposite I'd thought about but not figured out how to do it justice!

You have done it justice :)

Is that just one tealight! Amazing effect!

Good one DS!!!

that's a really warm effect you got from a single tea light  I agree with John's comment about the Sun over the glacier. A very good interpretation of the theme

Cool. I thought about doing fire and ice, but couldnt figure out how. I feel warm looking at it even though it is ice. Nice :)

Stunning image, well done :clap::clap:

I love the way my eye is drawn from one section of ice to another and as someone else has said it has a nice warming feeling to it even though it is ice.

I like it.

Very nice looking abstract shot...

It's worked really well...and doe's make you want to pour out something warming in to a glass... love that orange glow...

Thanks all - I havn't taken any other snow shots so I'm glad I managed one... even if it is a bit abstract :)

The colours in this are superb - what a great idea.

I agree with all the other comments and love the abstract quality. The snow has taken on a kind of metallic look imo.

You must have had to work quite quickly to get this.:clap:

I'm loving this challenge too, DS. It really gets you, doesn't it.

Jean

Just seen week 6's theme...

SPECIAL???!

:help::help::help::help::help::help:

Wow,

I've just seen your shots for Surprise and Opposites and both are stunning.

I really want to try the party popper one for myself now, I can imagine that it would be quite a challenge. Was it light by flash or was it lit by other means?

Thanks Simon - it was actually just lit by your average household lamp. I'm sure a more elaborate lighting set up would have resulted in a better shot though. I'd like to see your take on it if you do give it a go.

I love the abstract effect of your Opposite shot. The colours are great and the ice looks really sharp. It's a great take on the theme, and would have fit Surprise really well.:clap:

As for Special, for once I've got an idea :naughty:, I just hope it works because it's the only one I've got :D

I'm really enjoying the challenge too.

Week 6 - Special

Well I have hit my firsh 52 Wall - in that I have completely run out of time and inspiration.

I have a lot of special things in my life - not least my partner Mark. I did want somehow show how special he is to me in this weeks photo but I couldn't think of a good enough idea to do him justice.

Instead I am going with a picture of a thing that is special to me for a different reason. I don't have a huge amount of friends like some people do but I have some special friends that I have known for a long time. They each have their own attributes and personality that I love about them. One is Eloise - a friend I met in school, lived with through my 20's and has been a constant source of fun - and support during some tough times. She is wonderfully creative and that is why this item is special to me. El made this bracelet - and when I wear it, it reminds me of her creativity and what a all round great friend she is...

Well got to say you have given that bracelet some wonderful lighting...

That is really well done and looks good enough for wall picture too me...

Excellent work from you this week...

I agree - the colours and light and the way you've positioned the bracelet all work really well!

Very nice and obviously very special to you DS :)

You may have been running out of time - but definitely not of inspiration. This is a fabulous shot in it's own right - I totally agree with all the other comments - and it's also a special tribute to a very special friend in your life. Well done, DS :clap:

Jean

I must learn to be better at keeping up with these threads. You have a great set here.

I really love the composition and colour in 4, but I wish the paper streamers were a bit more in focus. Excellent idea!
The soft warm light and the interesting reflections and distortions of the light in 5 make it something really intersting.
6 comes out top for me. Well presented and lit. A really great shot.

That special shot is special in it's own right, cracking shot, but extra so with the history behind it.

Thanks for the comments all - I am pleasantly surprised

I'm still a little disappointed that I couldn't think of a good idea for my better half... ah well... onto the next one.

Really good shot here,:thumbs::thumbs: I liek your Opposites one as well

It's a lovely bracelet too :D

The fire and ice for the opposites was a great image. Lovely depth of colour that looked so warm in comparison to the cold chunks of ice. Nice interpretation

Like the way the 52s often allow people to really personalise the theme and share a little bit of themselves. Great lighting and lovely exposure on the necklace. Colour is very nice. Thanks for sharing

I love the special shot - the colours and shapes really stand out because the lighting is ace :) - did you use a lightbox?

If that's your wall then you've got an east run to the finish now. Great shot, really like the lighting in it the shadows are perfect for my taste. I presume this is a light tent or at least a softbox very close directly above the bracelet?

Thanks again for all the comments everyone

Lighting wise I employed the use of a humble table lamp, some tissue paper, and a big bit of white foamboard from the craft shop. I wish I had a light-tent or a softbox but I don't - for the moment I am having to make do with the Blue Peter appoach!

I do think it's helping (or forcing?!) me learn how to use the manual settings on my camera though which will help when I finally get a DSLR hopefully.

Week 7 - Crowds

Well the "Two's company..." idea has already been done so I tried for the "Stand out in a crowd" idea instead..

I really must start thinking about my 52 before the weekend it is due - damn work has been getting in the way of photography again :bang:

Week7-Crowds.jpg

Things I've learnt:

1. Start earlier and stop rushing
2. Don't use props you can eat
3. I either need a different job or to find a way of not letting my current one take over my life.
4. Not taking a lunch break kills all enthusiasm for anything productive for the rest of the day.
5. Although Mario Kart is fun - playing it does not result in a good 52 photo!

That works really well with the shallow DOF...wish I'd gone for smarties, although I think the props would have been down too 3....

Liking this a lot...

Very nice, with the focus clearly on the blue sweet that does indeed stand out in the crowd.

Great Idea, nicely executed. Sweet!:naughty:

A nice twist to the theme, DS. It took me a moment to clock that they were Smarties :bonk:

I like your use of dof in this - and the black border goes well will the graphic feel you've created.

I can identify with your learning points - edible props, working and not getting a lunch break are sure fire downers on enjoyng photography.

I hope work doesn't take over for you next week.

Jean

It's worked really well, and that blue one really stands out well, with the good use of DOF.

Thanks for the comments all

Sadly work has scuppered me again this week and I havn't even started to think about "wealth" yet :bonk:

Like that, a good take on the theme. Focus as well as colour pulls the blue one out from the crowd.

Yet another shot you should be really pleased with

Great abstract composition, spot on DoF, complementary border and great colour balance.

Thanks again for all your comments - it's really bugging me that I havn't been giving this enough thought or time recently and it's lovely that other people are still taking the time to comment. Also very conscious that I'm not up to date with everyone elses 52's - I'm sorry!! I do look at all of them but I'd like to make useful comments and that takes time that I just havn't had over the past couple of weeks :bang:

Anyway, enough excuses - onto Week 8: Wealth.

Another tricky theme for me and the one and only idea I had was this:

Some people are literally made of money...

Week8-Wealth.jpg

Things I learnt:

1. Still need to sort out the work thing - it's really cramping the creativity and enthusiasm at the moment.
2. 50p coins may have a flat edge but they do not like balancing on other coins.
3. Coins are horribly difficult to light.
4. I have gone from wanting to needing a light tent and some better lighting.
5. I think I need to try to get out and about for next weeks theme - table top stuff is definately becoming my comfort zone.

Thanks for looking ;)
