The 2014 Season F1 Thread

He may well have used up all his get out of jail free cards but then again he is craftier than a boat load of monkeys, or can afford people who are
Its going to be interesting to see it unfold
I wonder if Bernie trying to buy the Nuremburg ring has any bearing on the case A goodwill gesture maybe

More important, where are the cars??

Has searched, but found nothing? Anyone seen, how the 2014 models are gonna look?

McLaren are looking to be first on the 24th. Ferrari 25th.
A lot of others will be on the first day of the Jerez test.

Opps repeat of above, must pay more attention!

I think Bernie has had his head in the sand over this, he has a version of events in his head that he believes everyone else will say "oh OK that's what happened" and in fact that's not going to happen.

I think the majority of what he has done for the sport over the years has been good, but his time is over.

I hope his successors do as good a job.

F1 has been in danger of disappearing up its own fundamental orifice for ages and if BCE goes, I'm not sure the advertising procession that's been masquerading as a sport for some years will be too far behind him.

In other news, one of the papers has said that MS WILL be significantly changed if he recovers. Well, no one can possibly know for sure until he comes round and has had time to recover. Brains are weird things and can do things that are completely unexpected. All the best to him for the future.

From all accounts the nose will look like an ant eater with a hump on top and should outstrip the previous season in the ugly stakes. Cooling will be a problem so expect big holes in the side pods and other places The loss of the beam wing will mean stronger sides to the top wing Front wing will be shorter so expect alsorts of strakes and appedidges to calm tyre squish
The fun will be what each team does and what fails It will be probably 3 races in before that is sorted unless a device comes to the front like the double diffuser did

CVC have had enough time to find one (or more) but no one seems to have surfaced yet and even if Bernie walks his time on the planet is limited, you would have thought there would be some one in the wings by now

Ron Dennis has been announced as group CEO
he said "My fellow shareholders have mandated me to write an exciting new chapter in the story of McLaren, beginning by improving our on-track and off-track performance,”
and "I am excited by the prospect of returning to the role of Group Chief Executive Officer and working with my many colleagues and fellow shareholders to fulfil our objective – which is to win at whatever we do.”
Leaving Mr Whitmarsh where I wonder ??

Whitmarsh will have already cleared his desk, I imagine.

Ron might be exactly what that team needs.....another season like 2013 would've been very painful to watch.

Its not official yet but Martin was looking very gaunt towards the end of the season last year so you could be very well right he wont be kept on as team principal
So here come the rumours
Dennis says he has no objection to Alonso joining Mc's (mid season last year) which was a suprise (unlikly but maybe for the honda years)
Russ Brawn is on the loose (always a possability as he seemed to leave / edged under unworkable conditions, team principal or leave)

Lets hope all the new staff they have poached can produce a workable car. Ditch the pull rod suspension it did Ferrari no good

But.. but.. wasn't he permanently banned since the scandal?

Was that not Flavio Briatore (renault) he was banned indefinatly from F1 (subsequently overturned in a french court of law) for fixing the race with Piquet doing a perfect crash
Ron resigned to appease the fia over the spying scandel, now hes back with a vengence

Perhaps blamed for the debacle that was Perez at McLaren?
And it still goes on the McLaren MP4-28 has failed several fia crash tests so could miss Jerez That should have Ron bouncing

Oh boy, McLaren is going to be a very different place this year, I expect to see Ron wearing a Darth Vader cloak complete with mask, rasping voice and the ability to pick people up by the throat without touching them :eek::eek:

Kobayashi and Ericsson confirmed at Caterham.

Which leaves only McLaren and Marussia with the same driver line up as last year.....throw in the new cars, three rookie F1 drivers, God knows how many rule changes and not forgetting our old mates at Pirelli, and Australia is looking like it's going to be a proper circus of a race!!

Mclaren dropped Perez but Mercedes kept their drivers.

It appears Maclarean have passed all the crash tests and will be at Jerez
I can just imagine Ron stamping around to get that done

I dont really follow the rear of the field but with Koby there that will change I was sorry to see him left out last season
Especially as he is there for free and fernandes has said if caterham dosnt do any good this year he will pack up
Lots of incentive there then

Looks good... Copying Sauber a bit going from white to black like they did last year

Looks fast!

But I heard there should be some major changes to nose and both wings?? Seems pretty "old-fashioned" to me...?

The nose is a lot lower and the front wing is 15cm narrower. The rear wing has now lost its lower element as well. The angle of the image doesn't really show you much of the new changes though.

A number of news sources today are speculating that Schumacher may remain in a vegetative state following the length of time he's been in a coma. I really hope not

The nose is much much lower, but surprised how much the rest of it looks like last years - http://www.formule1.nl/media/uploads/media_images/2013-02-07/racepictures_1360237704.36.jpg
Cool angle!

Looks very sleek! Was worried, they might end op like something horrible a'la Indycar...

Ay... not good news. Did fear that, as the coma state dragged out... come on, Michael!

I can understand the family wanting to keep things private. It would be good to get some kind of update though rather than the press speculating. It has been a while he's been in the coma. We spotted him shopping in Florida but I was too scared to ask for an autograph.

I will still go with Harstein rather than the gloom mongers Yes there will probably be some damage but whether it will be minor or major no one knows till they wake him up
I am going with minor and thats where my thoughts will be till proved otherwise

What ever is there now will be altered by the time racing starts and then every race after
The nose will be altered to get more air beneath
The front wing will be altered to get the best outwash unless inwash works better
The side pods will alter for better aero around the coke bottle
Air snorkels will appear around the roll over bar for more cooling
The rear wing will continually evolve now the beam wing is missing
Then there might well be factor X which a clever team might just find and all will copy
So all in all Jerez will have cars running that will be quite different from mid season
Nice colours though

I really hope the doom mongers are wrong. Having read Harstein's blog today though I wouldn't say he's painting a picture that suggests they are, and suggests that he thinks if Michael recovers he'll be very disabled. I hope he's wrong and you're right.
