I can't help but feel that if Alonso gets the title it will be a hollow victory.

....he has done some epic driving this season, but can't help feel the championship would be a little soured if he gets it.

I think he's driven the ar5e off that bucket all year, in a way that Formula 1 hasn't seen since Alain Prost in 1986 ;)

Granted Webber has hardly pushed Seb this year, but he kept him honest and doesn't easily play second fiddle. But Alonso would always know that he had to screw over his team mate many many times and take none-racing advantages to get there....he has done some epic driving this season, but can't help feel the championship would be a little soured if he gets it.

A hollow victory for a ferrari driver? nope, not heard that one before .... :whistling:

Not a bad race at all yesterday, fabulous track, really liked it and Vettels strop when Hamilton passed him was amusing.

TBH, have no interest in which of the 2 possibles win the championship, both are supremely skilled drivers, with all the grace and charm of dummy spitting, rattle chucking 5 yr olds when it doesn't go their way and ergo do nothing for me. However, it has been a pretty good season with some brilliant races that I have enjoyed. You know what, I think I would like Massa to win next week...he wont be allowed to of course, assuming the Spaniard is still on the track. Failing that if Jenson or Kimi could put one over on them, that would make me happy :D

Ruling out DNF's this is how he has to do it
By finishing first with Vettel fifth or lower
- By finishing second with Vettel eighth or lower
- By finishing third with Vettel 10th or lower
With a DNF for Vettal he still has to finnish 3rd (infront of hamilton button webber kimi assuming two of those are 1 & 2 he will stand a good chance as massa will side shift for him but there are still some fast cars and drivers out there that intermitantly go stella )

Thats some epic driving to achieve the crown
Its his luck that will do it if he does
He will need the help of the gods of kers / alternators and crap tyres to smite the bulls me thinks (or a combo of mad mal, grosjean and kobyashi all attacking the red bull of vettal)

Not sure about the "help of the gods of kers." But it looks like maybe the Gods from the heavens above might be trying to play their part. 33c and sunshine forecast for Thursday / Friday. Changing to just over 20c and rain for Saturday / Sunday. Brundle alluded to it on the commentary yesterday.
It's such a long shot for Teflonso. But I hope it makes a race of it.
I'm flying out of Heathrow on Wednesday evening:thumbs: Photo's from the stands when I return next week.

That pretty much sums it up for me too with regards to the season as a whole!! :)

On Sunday, it's win/win lose/lose for me.....can't say I care much for either of them as people, so while I'll enjoy seeing one of them lose, it'll be at the expense of seeing one of them win!! :shake:

Stroppy spoilt German, or the narcissistic Spanish bully......flip a coin for all I care!!

I used to be in the anti-Alonso camp following his time at McLaren. Living out here I see a lot more of him than you guys do, and he comes across really well in interviews. He's much more natural and expressive when speaking his mother tongue. He's actually a funny, chilled out guy. This year my admiration for him has rocketed. He's been given a dog of a car and he's still in with a shot at the championship.
One thing I never see mentioned in Autosport etc is Vettel's reputation for being a mujeriego (womaniser). He had a fling with the Antena 3 pit lane reporter Nira Juanco.
It was strange to hear the Antena 3 commentary team rooting for Hamilton yesterday!

What's with all the telfonso stuff? Am I missing something.

Aside from that, it was a great race. It's been a great season and ill be looking forward to next year. Maybe not for Hamilton but never mind 2014 will be his year :)

So will it be decided today, or will we have to wait till Brazil......I think Alonso will make him work for it, but I think Seb will bag it up in Texas!! :)

...and your prediction for Brazil? :D

I thought the Texas race was one of the most exciting this year......

....not often you can say that about any F1 race!

...and your prediction for Brazil? :D

Coultard, Elvis, and that guy off the old Yellow Pages advert on the podium, with every team except Caterham being disqualified, meaning Kovalainen will win his first world championship.....

.....might get in touch with Ladbrokes for the odds on all that!! :suspect:

:D

Smashing race 1 pit stop and loads of close up personel racing
Vettals strop was actually at Karthikeyan for not letting him by
This is what K had to say about it

At the drivers’ briefing Charlie Whiting told us very clearly that it is not possible to let the leaders past in the very fast first sector,”
“Charlie told us that we should let the faster cars go from turn 8, the first slower corner, which is exactly what I did. Vettel was at the briefing. Did he not hear?

Round 20 for the crown
If vettel finishes 4th or better its his
So who do you see as the 4 cars in front of him to stop him
Hammy defo Button? (if the car works for him) Massa? (although on good form ) Alonso distinct possability but will have to drive the best this year Kimi? flashes of genius Grosjean? fast but?

Must be worrying for the bulls as they are fitting an untried (to them) new designed alternator for this one, just what you want in round 20
Medium downforce cct so should suit the ferraris unless the bulls set there car up for max speed, which is unlikly as they only need 4th

Its Alonsos if his luck holds but more than likely Sebs unless the jokers come into play

An alternator that had not yet failed at that. They went with an old one for the other race and that failed.

Anyone but vettel to win for me. Hopefully Hamilton takes him out ;)

This promises to be a cracking race, if it rains something tells me Alonso wins, if its dry Vettel wins

Apparently from them that know this is MK3 alternator that has been extensivly tested at reno and fitted for the first time to all renault engined cars at COTA except the bulls with no failures
The problem seems to be high current loads on slow corners Its believed that the bulls employ pumps to shift fluids around the car for better balance and its these that are upping the amps ????
Its looking like hammy is on the pace from practise 1 & 2 with the bulls ferrari and lotus being no slouches

When it rains
Hammy set up for dry quali
Button set up for dry quali
Webber set up for dry quali but bulls always run with more down force than the rest
Vettal as above but maybe just a touch more downforce
Massa set up for dry quali
Maldanardo set for dry quali but could cut a path for Alonso
Hulkenberg set for dry quali
Alonso set for wet race There is only two reasons hes in 8th ones wet set up the other is its knackered Just watch him go if it rains but the bulls are no push over in the rain either

Well maldanardo is out of the way, 10 place grid drop, A repremand for failure to bother with weigh in after quali the wally
Alonso 7th On the clean side of the track would you believe the luck just rolls on and on

Any driver who receives three reprimands in the same Championship season will, upon the imposition of the third, be given a ten grid place penalty at that Event,’ reads Article 18.2 of the FIA Sporting Regulations.
Maldonado’s previous two reprimands were handed out for holding up Heikki Kovalainen during Q1 in China and for his clash with Sergio Pérez at Silverstone.

I was watching the qualifying on the Tv when Maldondo rolled past the red light and the face of the FIA steward on the wall was a picture. I did wonder what penalty he would receive.

I reckon Vettal will win the championship as even if Alonso gets the rain he wants Vettal can be the best of the rest and pick up enough points

Its certainly an uphill struggle for Alonso
But dont rule out his luck factor this year
Vettle might just play a cautious race and that could well be his undoing
Basically Seb has to DNF and Alonso finnish high up in the points all the other permatations mean seb has to finnish low down in the points which too be honest is very unlikly

At least this year, Alonso's team mate is far less likely to deliberately crash for him. Lucky for Ferrari that they didn't need to shift Massa back down the grid again - can't see Massa taking too kindly to that at his home GP (or the Barazilian crowd being too pleased either [incidents can and do happen in Sao Paolo to F1 personel, even innocent ones!]).

Given the likely weather (IIRC, rain is a 100% likelihood), Hamilton for the win with Alonso and Vettel also on the podium.

Alonso should see off hulkenberg if not at the start within the early stages
Then he is behind Massa what do you think will happen there
this is assuming rain
He can pass webber and vettel and button and hamy but if seb is fourth its all over
Watch out for the luck factor
If its dry even if seb DNFs he will still be the champ as the ferrari is set for rain and will come way down the pecking order (or should unless his four leaf clover starts working )

Nice little radio piece from Schumacher....

Outcome will be interesting but ultimately almost unconcerning, as I said earlier in this thread, neither Alonso nor Vettel are amongst my favourites, so may the best man win.

However, last race of season, if you could control the outcome, your 'dream' podium?

1 Button [my personal fave driver], 2 Massa [just because its brazil], 3 - Raikonnen [to finish off a fantastic season for a driver a never really took to in the past]

Yours?

"He's coming into a wet box, it's going to be very slippy!" Lol!!!!!

Gutted for Lewis - would have been great to go out winning this race....

That was quite an entertaining couple of hours, wasn't it? :D

Great drive by Button and congrats to Vettel....missed 5 minutes of the race and Hamilton disappeared, guess he must have pulled over to pick some toys up to restock the pram ready for next year ;)

Jim & Neil, have to say that that line raised a gentle titter from me as well - and I'm far from a child!

Congrats to the winners, both of the race and the championship and commiserations to the team player who gave up his 2nd place for the good of his teammate (a gesture that was futile in the end...) and the once leader who got smacked off by a driver whose ambition overtook his talent as fast as his rear end overtook his front.
