Maldonado should have been black flagged & removed from the whole event at the least.

Intentionally causing an accident is pretty much the worst offence possible in my view.

Also, Shumi wasn't much better with his block on hamilton in practice at the previous race.

Anyone have any thoughts on this w/ends penalties, compared to Barcelona?

Hamilton gets sent to the back of the grid for, through no fault of his own, not having enough fuel...
vs
Maldonado getting 10 place penalty for driving into Perez, on purpose, described as "using his car as a weapon", for which he has previous form...

Doesn't seem entirely coherent to me.

Ain't the first and won't be the last. Even the 'greats' have done it...and won championships while doing it.

As a Hamilton fan I won't comment on the punishment ;)

The thing that puzzles me with Hamilton's fuel penalty is why he was sent to the back of the grid, and not to the back of the Q3 places. He had already come through Q1 and Q2 without (presumably) failing to provide a fuel sample if required. He did carry a Q3 illegal advantage through being a lap's worth of fuel lighter than the rest, so give him a Q3 penalty.

The rule book leaves no debate for an infringement like hamiltons just a straight penalty unlike Maldonado's where there was a stewards inquiry that could include mitigating circumstances (although you would have to be good to find them in his case)

This one is easy. There are completely different sets of regulations, one is completely objective and one has a large subjective content.

Hamilton's penalty was one based on technical regulations (providing a fuel sample) and an absolute one, no doubt, you either comply with the regulation or you don't. Don't comply with the technical regs for the session and your times are void. It's there in black and white in the regulations, the team knows it, they know there is nothing subjective about drivign the car back to the pits and providing a fuel sample. He (or the team on his behalf) failed to comply, so his times for that session were void. Since the session was qualifying, he was placed on the grid as if he had failed to set a time in Q1. If he'd been driving an HRT, he would have got sent to the back of the grid as well, even though he may already have been there.

Maldanodo was driving standards. That subjective, the stewards have to look at the evidence and make a decision based on their analysis of it, which is why the penalty awarded is also at the discretion of the stewards so they can decide how serious the offence is and how seriously they will penalise the driver/team.

I'm starting to lose interest alittle if I am honest, hope Canada brings things back to how they should be

For me, F1 needs tyre sorting out so cars are on the limit from start to finish and not make it all about driving slower and managing the tyres

Kubica. Remember him? He had another operation today. Will he ever be back?

Tbh I can't see him in F1 again.

Shame.

listening to buttons post race interview.. i know he's not going to be happy with his form recently but he sounds really out of sorts. its odd, i wonder if theres something we're not hearing about.

Alonso going backwards.....such a shame *giggle*

 we sat here having a small sweepstake over how many laps from the end it would be when his tyres fell off, as it were.

Really enjoyed the race, well done Hamilton, and especially well done Grojean and Perez. Very confused by Buttons form, his head really does seem to be down :(

I can only think there is a flaw with the car. He's not the hardest on the tires, yet this chassis just tears them up. Maybe they'll give him a new one.

Buttons engineers were trying a new rear suspension to turn his tyres on quicker (unlike hammy whos aggressive style works quicker) due to insufficent testing due to other problems in practise it didnt get tested sufficently and screwed up his tyres instead

excellent race. such different strategies, THAT is what the tyres should do, not fall apart after 10 laps if the drivers go for it. they are racing drivers, its not in their nature to go slowly

Seriously, each race I ask myself the same question (viewing BBC). How on earth did Gary Anderson get a job on TV??

He knows his stuff, but every time he speaks I almost instantly fall asleep.

Yeah he is dull but I'm warming to him. Where was Jake this week?

I would sooner have Gary (at least he is spot on with what he says) than that ben that makes it sound like a horse race
I thought I would never say this but I am missing brundle

Yep I don't get why DC keeps quiet and lets him do all the talking! DC only seems to be there to go "don't be stupid you're 100% wrong Ben". Edwards just annoys me!

I'm eNjoying the sky coverage, good pundits,,and not an Eddie Jordon in site

For a pile of crap programmes and only 10 f1's its way to dear for me

They are still way too shouty with the commentary on Sky...they also have an insanely long build up and always seem to go to the grid too late for Martin to find anyone. BBC seemed to have about 3 people on the grid talking to drivers and finding out stuff rather than just fill on Sky.

I have said it before but the Sky stuff just aint doing it for me. The BBC having to cram everything into a 10 minute segment before the highlights of the race make for a way more interesting and informative show.

Totally agree with Tom. The Sky coverage is not as good as the Beeb.

The banter between Coulthard, Jordan and Jake really works. I think Coulthard is more respected by the current drivers than anyone else.

I'd rather watch the Beeb highlights rather than a full race on Sky.

Cheers.

I was there last year and almost fell asleep in my grandstand seat.
Looks like I chose the wrong year to go!

Hamilton................Bloody idiot.

EDIT........Not Hamiltons fault

No great surprise that that are saying it was Hamlton's fault here. I don't agree. Good result for Schumi too.

Great performance by Alonso.

I can not believe that was Valencia. Great race. I think Maldonado might be going back a few places on the grid at Silverstone.
