I thought that was a pretty good season opener. Yes, it helped from a personal view point that Button sailed from lights to flag, but there was plenty of interesting action and no doubt a few scores to be settled next week.

I also thought it was Maldonados accident with Grojean, he drove him out onto the grass and some would say his last lap accident was a kind of divine retribution, but it was shame, would like to have seen him finish so high.

Still loving Brundles commentary.... shame Crofty is as error prone and useless as Walker used to be :shake:

was going to ask this. whats the view on the sky coverage? better than BBC?

I miss Brundle somewhat, but when I was watching some of the Sky coverage (on the tinternet and it was really blurry for some reason!) I was stunned at the mistakes he was making "and Hamilton pits!!!!" I squint at the blurry image on my computer - fairly sure that's Button... and it was! It wouldn't be so bad if he wasn't so LOUD.

I quite like the BBC commentary, and the highlights weren't awful but it's not the full race with the pre-show build up. I would prefer Jonathan Legard to Ben Edwards but I quite like Coulthard's soft laid back commentary. I missed Ted Kravitz's input today, he always had something interesting to say.

Looking forward to Malaysia and a media blackout for me till the BBC highlights are on! Why do the BBC report the results with no warning when they haven't even shown their coverage yet?? Was super grumpy on hearing the results this morning

Mate, my radio was off until after i had seen the BBC coverage.

Glad to see the back of Kravitz, annoyed me when he told drivers to take their sunglasses off. I would have told him to f off. His interview style was almost interrogation which didn't sit well with me.

Lagard was crap imo, his hysterical style was like pins in me. i tuned to 5 live after a while with him.

Edwards has just the correct flection in his voice and he doesn't grate! Wonder if we will have the grid walk in the live coverage.

I am about to watch the bbc highlights on iplayer to see how Edwards gets on, will report back in an hour or so. Legard was another that just couldn't 'do' TV commentary - it seems some of the ex-radio guys just can't adjust to the different style required for TV [we don't need you to tell us a lot of the mundane stuff, we can see it] and forget that we can actually see when they make mistakes.

Oh who ever does the grid walk has to push Brundle out the way, they just HAVE to!

i was thinking that.

Brundle never gets to talk to Schumacher, would be nice to see him chat to Coulthard in front of him :)

I'm not bitter that he defected. :p

I thought the Sky coverage was much better than the BBC. The only thing missing was DC. Hill has about as much charisma as a bag of potatoes.

Particularly liked using the Sky Sport iPad app to see all the things you normally have to go to the red button for. That and the ability (if so inclined) to watch the whole weekend in one sitting.

I would like to see the viewing figures compared as well. Especially when they are both showing at the same time.

Hmmm Damon wouldn't be my first port of call if i was looking for a summariser.

Even though i did cry when he won the championship

IMO BBC coverage was very good. I was fearing the worst but I think the coverage of the race was fine. A shame they couldn't have more pre and post race coverage. I also really liked the red button show they used to do.

Edwards and DC were good. Edwards has the right amount of enthusiasm without getting carried away. I am a big Brundle fan but to be honest I didn't miss him too much.

At this point I can say I am glad I resisted the urge to get Sky.

:gag: 10 mins of Edwards and he is already winding me up as much as Crofty... WAY WAY WAY too excited... his reaction to Vettel exploring the scenery in the early laps was ridiculous, as is the one I am hearing as a type this about Schumacher - JUST SHUT UP man, we are only here, you don't need to go into orbit.

Oh well, I guess I shall have to accept that this season, there isn't going to be a commentary that will totally satisfy me.

edit: ok, maybe it will improve as the season moves on... but I do so wish we could have Brundle/DC combo again, it just worked

Me too!

Just watched the BBc highlights, incidentally which I sky+, you're not getting another 10 quid from me sky..

I kinda liked the new staff, the new commentator was no more irritating than brundle. The techie guy in the pits knew his stuff..

I'm happy, my 10 quid is safe :D

Race wise hammy was unlucky, vettle was not doing anything special, kimi was good to see back and up in 8th at one point.

Interesting though, how the front runners pan out should be a bit more even this year. Te vettle whitewash got really boring the last two years. the midfield action was really good too.

Whats the 10 squid for?

I am still preferring the BBC coverage, even though it was just highlights they still gave it a lot of time, really only cutting out the dull crap (safety car etc). Really not liking the Brundle/Croft combo, much prefer Coulthard/Edwards and Coulthard seems to be working better than when with Brundle....having watched both DC called stuff much quicker and more accurately.

I think the BBC coverage was WAYYYYYYYYYY better for the build up and post race stuff, well mainly in terms of the special features they did, like exploring the local culture or having some little game with the drivers (like when they did the pit stop thing with the mclaren drivers). The only special feature Sky had was the Ferrari F1 drive that Brundle got to do, and that could have been done better i think. But its early days so we will see. Also in the post race the BBC were great at taking you right inside the winning team, Sky just wondered up and down the paddock and bit and then sent brundle to mclaren for a few seconds (although i am being a bit harsh because i missed half the post race stuff as i had a shower).

However the commentary i thought was great :) Brundle was his normal brilliant self and Crofty while making several silly mistakes was pretty good, I think he will become a lot better I can see potential there for that partnership.

I miss Jake though, I used to watch him on CBBC as a kid and then on the odd sport thing then on F1, hes legend

Just a reminder that the first IndyCar race of the season is on Sunday. I think for you UK-based folks it's being shown on the Sky F1 channel. I think there are 4 ex F1 drivers taking part.

Just be thankful you don't have to endure the commentary on Star Sports, give me BBC/Sky any day!

The bbc should get higher viewers, not as many sky hd users as there were viewers of f1 last year. I'm quite liking having the red button on sky to pick different cameras to view etc

Hamilton fastest in Practice 1, Vettel is complaining that his car is "all over the place" in Practice 2. The weekend has started!

Watching quali live. Sky pairing more relaxed this week

Just woke up, thought I would put the end of quali on, timed it perfectly for the final standings to pop up :p

Going on how bored Martin sounded I am guessing it wasnt the most exciting?

It was good, there was enough intrigue for me

Sky were better this week, but the highlights on the Beeb were pants.....great result either way, I'm very happy with that front row!! :)

got to say Sky was improved this week commentary wise.... still wish George Lazenby [or whatever is name is] would stop trying to be Jake Humphries. Still, another good qually result....I now have to spend tomorrow with a news blackout, I will be loading the car ready to go to a wedding fair as they get underway :(

I'll text you the result as soon as the race finishes.....that way you won't have to avoid the news!! :naughty:

The first race of the season was far too early in the morning for me, but I'm happily watching Sepang on RTL for those interested in an alternative to paying Murdoch his pound of flesh for the races the BBC don't have live coverage for.

Did anyone watch Sky coverage today? We had a terrible signal but all other channels working fine. Reset the box but still it was awful.

Great race and no problems with Sky, was watching on Sky Go though. Would have loved for Hamilton to have won but it wasn't meant to be, ah well. So much action!

It was so close yet so far for Perez. I so wanted him to get past Alonso.

What a crazy ass race! Glad I watched the bbc highlights, cut out all the red flag wait.

What a race, was will Perez on to pass Alonso, a few more laps and he'd have had him. Pity the DRS didn't give him much advantage.

And I'm a huge Button fan so I'm maybe biased, but that was a really odd line Karthikeyan, was taking. Normally after the apex you'd expect them to aim the car over at the opposite kerb, I know they avoid kerbs in the wet but he didn't use all the track to my mind. Karthikeyan should have known he was slower and liable to be getting in the way so the excuse that "I didn't know he was there" doesn't really fly. Hard lines for Jenson, though it probably wasn't the best decision to go for the overtake there, but the HRT's line did look to be leaving the door open for him. Thoughts?

I enjoyed the race but bitterly disappointed in the outcome regarding Button, I really want him to shine this season. I'm struggling with the BBC coverage, probably because I'm not seeing it live and for me this loses so much, having to avoid the result before watching the highlights is very difficult. It's the whole package I'm missing though, right through from the practice sessions to the pre and post race, along with in-car race footage and live timing, it just added to the experience. I haven't taken to Edwards yet but I'll give him more time. I'm wondering which limb to sell to go for Sky HD, I do like Brundle and always enjoyed Crofty on the practice commentaries, even more so when paired with Antony Davidson.

Was it also Karthikeyan that Vettel has a run in with? He was fuming about that in the post race interview on the BBC...which seemed a little odd when he cut in-front of him. Was also interesting that Vettel was looking shattered (and angry) where as Jenson sort of just brushed it off as "yeah, it was crap".

Odd coverage of the race again, not sure it is a new team doing FOM but they keep missing lots of action, especially overtakes for the lead...they don't seem as on the ball as the last few seasons.
