Adverts during qualifying and the race from next season is what I heard

got a source for that? I have tried searching but coming up with nothing. Everywhere I've looked all point to the same thing. Race will be advert free. Qualifying will have adverts between the 3 sessions, as they were set up to have to appease the tv channels.

I can't remember where it was I found it but it might have been on an F1 forum. If I find it I will post a link.

Will pass this onto my father he has a satellite dish setup. Is the commentary in German?

Yes.. but it shouldn't be too hard to follow.. driver names and team names stay the same, it's been a couple of years since I last watched the F1 on German satellite but from what I remember the commentary team are pretty calm.

You can always have radio 5 on at the same time.

You want "RTL", Lyngsat has the tuning specs.. but a digital receiver should pick-up the channel name and the EPG.

I must admit to having probably watched more german tv in the evenings this week than uk tv. They have the same crap we do (top model, who wants to be a millionaire, etc) but it forms a much smaller proportion of the total output and is mostly on the commercial channels, whereas the main channels and the third programmes (regional tv) are much less excitable. Plus, Tatort is pretty addictive (imagine a german Taggart but filmed in several regions of the country).

Sat in the sunshine with a beer watching the qualifying....great stuff...on the way home bought the train tickets to Shanghai for race 3 :D

DONT SCROLL DOWN ANY FURTHER IF YOU ARE AVOIDING THE RESULTS! :D

Well that was interesting! Glad to see the prettiest car on the front row :naughty:

Brilliant performance from Grojean, despite Kimi's best efforts, that car really isn't slow ;)

It will be interesting to see how Vettel copes with the race tomorrow when presumably he won't be able to steam off into the distance from the lights.

 I am struggling to disagree, even if Yves Geza is hitting me round the head and repeatedly telling me that Alonso is the best driver out there! :D

.....and what does that plonker know about drivers and motorsport in general??!

.....oh yeah, quite a lot!! :p

Its raining, I have to head into London to get pictures of pints of Guiness [probably being topped up with 'natural water'] in and around traf square... only consolation is that hopefully I will sleep early tonight and be bright and breezy for live race :D

.....or flu ridden  :cuckoo:

This damn cold I've got has kept me up since Thursday night.....no doubt it'll keep on keeping me up for the whole GP too!!

Such mixed emotions!!! :'( :D :gag:

Oh, and Guinness has two n's in it.....innit!!

The first 20 mins of the BBC coverage have topped the whole of the Sky coverage so far for me. Dunno what it is about the sky stuff but they seem to have so much time that it gets a bit dull and they don't seem to be explaining much. Odd mention of tyres and stuff but nothing detailed like sets and types and time differences...the odd mention but BBC seem to have covered it much better already. Maybe having less time is going to work well with them concentrating all the details into little snippets.

Coulthard and Edwards seem to working well together too, Brundle and the dude who keeps referring to himself in the 3rd person on Sky are repeated each other way too many times, didn't seem to be listening to each other at all at times and just didn't gel to well for me.

Get the feeling I am going to be watching much more of the BBC stuff than Sky, at least until they get it a bit slicker anyway.

I didn't find it too bad on sky, no Eddie jordan is a massive bonus though, they guy is a complete test of my patience

I wouldn't normal pay much attention to the F1 racing but one of our workshop techs is now working for Mercedes in his first F1 season so will be keeping an eye out for DC in the pit lanes and wish him well.

Enjoyed the coverage.

Ecstatic that Lewis is on pole.

V pleased for Schumacher, he looks incredibly lean this year, must have been working out extra time if that's possible.

The Edwards Coulthard combo is working well already, but Gary Anderson is the icing for a geek. His pit stop theory is excellent.

Romain Grosjean wasn't a surprise to me (not) Raikkonen's performance shows that you just can't go back into top end sport after a break and expect to be on top of your game. We are only talking 1/2 % performance between the top drivers.

Ferrari are in deep doo doo and Massa should have been sacked last year.

De Resta will need to up his game, he's not a rookie any more.

Pleased for Williams as well, about time they puller their finger out.

My news embargo worked well and i'm looking forward to the race tomorrow.

Woot!

Edit: The intro to the BCC coverage is superb btw. Watch it on the iplayer if you haven't seen it, slick is a description thats not slick enough :)

Where has he gone?

Watched all the practice's (sp) and qualifying, have really enjoyed it all on sky, although I was wathcing in bed so no HD or 5.1 surround sound :)

Still the cars look good, nice to see Red bull struggling a bit (sure it wont be long) the McLaren's look nice, best looking cars IMO.
You know Adrian Newey is not happy he does not have a nice looking car ATM.

It all bodes well for the race should be quite exciting to see how they preform on full tanks and how the tyres work out.

Nice to see Jenson as no1 driver for McLaren. He and Lewis both look to be in a good place with life and work ATM.

Would be nice to see Webber have a good season and maybe a title this year.

I agree Schumacher is looking good both personally and as a driver. wonder if its the F duct?

BBC did very well today, good on them.

Roll on 1400 hours tomorrow, very much looking forward to seeing how Vettel tries to get through to the front, but I don't think he'll be catching the boys in their silver arrows!

It bodes well for the season to see such close timing in the first session of the year.
It'll be interesting to compare the BBC coverage/commentary/tech bits with Sky. Also the viewing figures between them and against last year.
I notice they have still got the team out there regardless of whether they are showing it live or not. Where have they saved the money? In the extortionate fees to the FIA?
Popcorn n beer at the ready.

The big test for the BBC coverage will be how well the race comes across in a "highlights" program. If it still has the overall ebb and flow of the race then I think it will be fine for the rest of the season. The cometary team of Edwards and DC works well. I like Edwards already so I was glad when he was announced as comms on the BBC.

I watched the P3 very early this morning and I'm not sure the Sky team are really working that well. I like Martin and I like Crofty but it just didn't seem to work for me. I ended up watching it on sky but tuned to Radio 5 cometary. Their team seems to work quite well also.

Ah I headed on down to the unreleated forum thinking that they maybe a f1 thread being the most recent updated thread at this hour haha.

Hopefully it will end with Hamilton leading home a Mclaren 1 - 2

Twas a great race and great start to the F1 season, shame Hamilton didn't finish higher up, would have loved a Mclaren 1-2. But the local boy to me does a great job, loving the British anthem at the end as well :)

Press conference quote.............
Vettel "The Safety Car might have helped us"

Might! ? Without the Safety Car you would have been on a lower step Sebastian.

I thought that.

With Lewis doing nearly half a lap at half race pace. That's how you leaped up.

Good race thou some good dices going on throughout the field

Thought Maldonado was at fault when he took Grosjean out the race. Grosjean gave him plenty of space. Still all's well that ends well; Button and Hamilton on the podium, Massa retired (hate him with a passion) and Maldonado (who I also don't care for) gets greedy and justice is swift, a DNF for him too!

shame Hamilton didn't win. Button is an excellent second choice though.

I think Massa will be released from his contact before the season is over. One more chance i think.

Should've been binned at the end of last season to be honest. That said, he could argue he's doing his best to put distance between himself and Hamilton on the track!

The distance between him and Alonso is huge.

I'm surprised Ferrari is so attached to him. Unless they are having money problems.
