Well then you're on the wrong programme Ashers. I enjoyed doing the weightwatchers when I was on it and I hear there's a new plan this year. Look sgood - it's the Discover Plan http://www.weightwatchers.co.uk/plan/eat/plan.aspx

I didn't do the points plan when I was on it as I couldn't be arsed with the hassle of counting everything and anything. I was on the Core Plan where you have free foods - your "core" foods ie pasta, meat, fish etc and then you have a certain amount a points a week for luxuries.

I lost a stone and a half on it and enjoyed it. I have no idea why I gave it up, I could make all sorts of excuses but they would be false excuses. I am thinking about going on it again when my leg is better and I start going to the gym again. Should sign up while it's free registration

Funny i am thinking of stopping mine, due to toooooooooooooooooo many new people getting in my way :cuckoo:

The thing is Pete my best mate is diabetic and i have a friend that suffers from severely low blood sugar and they both compete with me in the kitesurfing scene. They eat chocolate but only when they need to eating those kind of things isnt what makes people big its the quantities. And as for diet, its like stopping smoking you get withdrawl symptoms that make you depressed and hungry because your body is used to intaking a certain amount.

Im not saying go cold turkey but slowly you can build up your exercise and diet, you dont need a health plan or pay for wheight watchers which just ends up making you anxious about wether your following it or how many "sins" youve had.

its all a process, just weather your head strong enough to not buckle under pressure and come out a happier healthier person...

what the gym or weightwatchers? I've belonged to the gym for a while now but haven't been for a couple of months because of my leg.

whats wrong with your leg?

Nothing major really - just me being a wimp - I've got trapped nerves which sometimes flare up and are quite painful. Had an op on Monday to try and manage the pain so I will go to the gym again soon :D

i feel you, with the double leg break its left some of the nerves on the right side of my ankle aching and they cut the ones on the right side of my knee so i wont be able to feel anything in that area for at least another 6-8 months :D

The gym, the only thing i have bother watching is that i eat enough. I train for about 3hrs a night/day 7 days of the week, the other night i only managed to complete 2/3rds of my normal plan for that day.

Speedy recovery with the leg, i cant stand not training even with any injury, i still trained 2 days after a major shoulder dislocation.

even 8 months post op is still hard to get fitness back to being able to kite again... Plus an ingrown toenail didnt help and now my ankle is back to 95% but my calf and thigh mass isnt all there yet and i cant jog for more than 5 minutes without feeling knackered and like my leg is compressing. And i hate that because i love sport and exercise but its not liking me right now

Well, the new flat is amazing, and the gym being 3 floors above me is brilliant! Its always quiet, and i've been in there almost daily! Will take today off *** to recover. Nothing mad, 15 on cross trainer, 15 on running machine, and 5-10 on rowing machine. Will start weights when i can work out the machine! And will use the onsite swimming pool on sunday when everyones still in bed. VERY body conscious, so hate swimming!

I've not had chocolate this year so far! And eating LOADS of fruit (eating healthy is EXPENSIVE!!) and veg instead of snacks. I've dropped 5lb since new years day, so its a good start.

Start weight : 17st 12lb
Current weight : 17st 7lb

and someones left some chocolate biscuits in the office.. its so hard resisting them and just staring! After all, no-one would know i'd had one...

EXCEPT ME!!!! :resists..:

They've just opened a new gym at work, so I'm doing 30-40 minutes in there every other day, and cutting out chocolate and biscuits. I'm going to weigh myself every 2 weeks, so there should hopefully be a noticeable weight loss every time. I've only started the gym in the past week and I already feel better in myself.

i dont know if this is normal, but i started my diet on monday, by tuesday had put on 2 pounds then wed i lost 1 pound is that normal? ive been eating half as much as i used to...

Your weight changes by over 2lbs at different points in the day, so yes it's perfectly normal. You won't necessarily get changes straight away, just be patient and stick with it :)

Often water retention can have an up and down effect on your weight too

Yeh, well I lost diddly squat this week.

I wouldn't mind but I've not touched the office biscuit tin for 3 weeks now (and its right next to my desk) and I'm making my own lunch to stop me having crisps and fancy sandwiches. I don't snack at night, once I've had my tea that's it.

Just don't get it as I feel like I've lost weight. This jumper is a bit chunkier than last weeks maybe that's it?

Harrumph.

perhaps u lost fat and gained muscle. muscle weighs more than fat

dont weigh yourself daily! You will just be disappointed! set a set time of the day to do it, and dont weigh yourself more than once a week on the same day at the same time!

Also, remember to burn more than you put in! So go for walks, get off a bus stop earlier, park further back in the car park etc. You really dont have to go to the gym to lose weight! That 25st woman on tv lost 3 stone in 3 months just by making her portions smaller, snacking less, and eating lots of fruit and veg!

Good luck!

everything you say is true, dont get me wrong. But loosing 3 stone on 25 is easy at that wheight just moving everyday would make you loose wheight

Oh aye. I'm 17st and hope to lose 3 stone in an entire year! So not expecting miracles! But we can all do it!

Unless you watched horizon last night! In which case scientists say we cant! ;)

im in that group. I can only gain 17% of body mass no matter how much a tried. This was conducted because i was loosing wheight after my leg break. Which is meant to be the other way around when you can do nothing but sit there and eat. :(

As a helpful tip.. while I wouldn't describe what I specifically did as a 'diet' (sounds far too restrictive), I've altered my eating habits considerably thusly:

1. Don't buy snack foods; simple solution, if they're not there you can't really eat them (but then with my student loan I can't really afford them, lol)

2. Buy lots of fruit and keep it in the same place you kept your snacks

(see where this is going? :P)

Also I do my best to remember to pile on the veg with whatever you eat; even if you're not a huge fan of it eventually you'll develope a taste for it and you can cut down on the other areas of the meal that are less healthy to make space for more greens (and reds, and oranges, and yellows, an.. well, yeah, colourful veg is nice for balancing the composition and framing of the food on your plate :P)

(that and a quick routine of push ups, sit ups, squats and dips after I wake up and before I go to sleep)

Not much else to it really, its given me some happy results

Best of luck to yours!

Hello!

I lost 1 stone 4 pounds last year, hope to lose another stone this year. So far down to 10st 8, only 10 more pounds to target..........

Todays exercise was a long walk in the snow (took the camera too!)

Good luck everyone, keep it going! :)

Ooh, had the hangover from hell on sunday and lost 1/2 stone in a day! sadly it came back once i'd stopped throwing up, but ah well! Was nice to see myself at 17st 1lb for a bit!

Wow! weighed myself and i'm at 16st 13lb! So practically a stone less than new year! 40 days without chocolate now too!

Come on guys! This is gonna be a great weight loss year!

Hey everyone - can I join? I need to actually be successful at losing weight for a change!! So, I thought maybe if I joined in here I might be accountable to someone (you lot!) and therefore maybe actually lose weight! Ok, I did lose 2 stone last year (well lost 3 stone and then put on 1 stone!), but I still have at least 10 stone to go (gulp).

Hope you will let me join :)

:welcome:

I weigh in at work with our nurse each week, 20p per week to charity and a 50p fine if we put wieght on, there are a few of us doing it now, having others keeping an eye certainly helps the willpower! :)

Good Luck!

I weigh in at the Nurse Unit where I work as well. Only I've started a new "regime" so my next weigh in won't be till next Thursday. Not sure if its working yet though, its a totally new approach for me as its dealing with the reasons why I eat lots rather than stopping eating certain things.

Everyone can join! We only ask that you name and shame your weight! So we can keep an eye on each other!

Tonight i ran 4km in 29 mins, and rowed 4km on setting 6 (out of 10) in about 17m 20s. Thats almost 600 calories burned!! So that should be another millionth of a pound burned off!

OK - ouch - do I really have to do this - it's a bloody lot  (like over 20 stone - and I am a girl :() !! If so then I will weigh in tomorrow and give you my weight then! Hopefully having to do this will be enough to make me stick to it!! :)

Oh and well done on the run! It's something I wanna do, but at my weight is hard enough to jog for a bit, let alone run! Hopefully in time I will be able to take it up though!

Sorry Bunny! You certainly dont have to tell us anything you're not comfortable with! Its all about eating well, doing exercise, and feeling happy with yourself!

Above all, have fun doing it!

:) it's ok - it's just scary putting the big numbers out there, but I will do it as it's my starting point and it will hopefully make me accountable to you all and help me get the weight off.

So.. (*deep breath*) this morning I weighed in at 22 stone 4lb (arghh!). I am fairly tall, but even so, that's a hell of a lot of weight, but the only was is..well down hopefully!

:)

Had a big stinking curry to celebrate the gfs exam success. kind of put me back a week! So i did 5km on the running machine today, and 4.5km on the rowing machine. Burned 840 calories!

Impressed! So got my weight back to 16st 13.. it was starting to creep back up!

Oh well been watching this post for a while about time I got involved. This July I hit the big 50 ( no not stone, years) so come the new year i said i have to do something about the weight mind you i think i say that every new year so i started on the 5th Jan(you cant start on the 1st).At the weigh in i was

18ST 13 3/4lb

one thing i always tend to do when on a diet is weigh myself to often so i said i would only do this on Sunday evening before bed last Sunday i weighed in at

17ST 13lb

I must admit i did go under this the week before last but 4 nights in Barcelona did not help. The wife says I'm not on a diet but just cutting down on what i eat with a lot more veg involved and less bread, potatoes and red meat. Last week i joined a gym, they have put me on a hour work-out for the first month and ask me to do this within half hour of getting up of a morning(every mid week day) so far so good.
Well good luck every one this is a great thread and i am sure together we can hit our goals. gary:thumbs:

Hello,

I'm another one who has been watching this thread (while guiltily scoffing take-aways and wine...mmmm) Anyway...

Start weight: 9st 8

My normal weight is around 8st 10 but a big lapse in excercise and lots of treating myself for a)crazy day with kids b) miserable weather c)studying a lot d) anyother excuse really... has meant I'm nearly as heavy as i was when i was 6 months pregnant.

I'm going to weigh in once a week & hopefully that will help motivate me.

Thanks everyone

Anna:)

hello to all the new people. Well had a mid-week weigh in and don't seem to have lost anything :( I thought to myself that I need to be a bit more serious if I am going to get this weight off. I haven't been following any diet and I know I need a plan. Anyway, knowing that the basis of all diets are counting calories, I thought I'd just do that - nice and simple less in (fewer calories), more out (i.e. exercise!). So, searching the web, I found this website http://foodfocus.co.uk/ would really recommend it. It's free and you record your calorie intake on there (it seems it has every item of food going!) and you also record your exercise. Just thought it might help someone out there! x

Good morning. Started the diet on Friday 20th Feb with the OH.

Starting weight 19st 4lbs.

I was 13st 7lbs when I left school 20+ years ago, so I have given myself a target of 14st. Got 3 kids to chase after (well two 7 year twins, the 15 year old is more worried about his computers) and have suffered from high blood pressure. So thought it was time to bite the bullet and get on with it.

Good luck to everyone else out there trying to lose weight.

Richard

Had a crap week... daren't weigh myself. Havent been to the gym since tuesday. Got really bad joggers nipple.. It was painful, and not funny!!

So this week i have to push harder i think. Instead of going all out at the gym, do a more mixed session. like 15 mins on the machines instead of trying to push further and further.

Oh well, thats the idea of a lifestyle change. You can have a bad week, just make sure you get back on the wagon!

Had my Sunday night weigh in last night

17st 10 3/4lb

that's a loss of 2 1/4lb last week cant moan about that, come to think of it I can moan about anything (so the wife says)

Off to focus tomorrow (Tuesday) so if I have a good spend up there I wont be able to afford to buy food now that sounds like a good plan to lose weight.

well done gary, that's great :)
Evil Ras - sorry to hear about the joggers nipple - sounds very painful! Hope this week is a better week for you weight wise!
Leaky 5 - good on you for starting. Good luck to you and your OH - I am doing this with my OH too.

Pancake day tomorrow, then for lent I am giving up chocolate! It's my biggest downfall and so I think 40 days without it will do me the world of good!
Also - I am joining the gym tomorrow and I am booking myself in for Race for life in July so that's gotta be good!

Hope you all have a good week. Anyone else giving up something for Lent? x
