According to the mail today England are the slowest team at the tournament for getting the ball forward. Even with Kane taking 2 or 3 defenders with him were too slow to exploit the gaps.
I am at a loss to understand our tactics, formation and strategy.

Agree, he is still world class and a brave move to drop him, can you imagine France dropping Mbappe, Poland dropping Lewandowski (who does also drop back), or Belgium dropping Lukaku. He does need service though!

How many world class clubs do you think will be lining up to buy him?
Too many injuries in the last few years and more importantly being rushed back too soon from them.
Champions League final was a good example of that, can't see many teams wanting to risk it.

Well, Man City seem to be the most obvious, have made a bid by all accounts of 100m plus players and they are world class. I think his preference is to stay in England which then rules out some other contenders.

I read that it was £100mm made up of cash and Sterling who doesn't fancy it.
We shall see, my money is on him staying at Spurs.

Not exactly enhancing his reputation with this latest showing either.

I thought the subject was Harry Kane? The Champions League final was Man City & Chelsea, I thought Kane was a Spud????

Thanks John, but I meant the CL final against Liverpool.
For some reason the manager brought Kane back for his first game after injury.
Dropped the player who got a hat trick in the semi to get them there.
Kane contributed nothing and looked as ineffectual as he has recently.

It was brilliant - I reckon Arsenal should sign that Xhaka bloke who played for the Swiss, loads better than the player with the same name who plays for us!

obviously playing for the 0-0. Strange based on our record v Germany.
Can you imagine Belgium leaving out de Bryne for a defensive mid??

Exactly, because we are so good in a penalty shoot out.

Expect two substitutions around the 75-80 minute mark, hardly time to warm up.
 
If it's anything close to that France V Swiss game last night it'll be a cracker, but I have a feeling it'll be a dull affair, neither are great teams to watch in general. Both solid, capable but ... a bit boring

I'm going to go with Germany 2-1

Same with the final peno from Mbappe, he looked scared sh*tless walking up, he had missed a couple sitters in extra time and spent the rest of the match falling over himself looking for free kicks or penos - ironic then when he got one he failed miserably.

World Cup winner, joint highest scorer in the World Cup, youngest French player to score at a World Cup, only teenager along with Pele to score in a World Cup final. He is still probably the best player in the French team and would probably start in any team in the World.
How many current England players have achieved anything like that?

I don't know and don't actually care as I'm Irish ;) What's all that to do with the price of turnips anyway? He was useless on the night that's all I know, and shouldn't have been left to take the final Peno.

Nice, I had a few small 'Bet builder' wins but spent it all back in - just makes the games more interesting when you have a fiver on, since we were too crap to make it there. I think the current Irish team is easily one of the poorest in decades.

I would have backed Sweden, I don't think Ukraine are good at all, they barely got through as one of the weaker 3rd place teams - but, since I didn't - best of luck!

Same here, but when it comes to the knock out stages the better teams usually deliver. France being the obvious exception this time out, I know a couple people who had big money on them to win it out

Just as I was typing that Ukraine almost scored btw!

Southgate has won nothing as a manager of a senior team at club or national level, is that accurate enough for you.

Roberto Martinez (manager of little Belgium) The World No ranked team since sept 2018. World cup semi-finalist in 2018 (like England)
Played 60 matches, Lost 4, win record 78%.

But Martinez " has won nothing as a manager of a senior team at club or national level " (your words in italics)

By your criteria I assume this makes Martinez a failure ?
