Hi Guys

Yes I know this has been discussed ad nauseum, but an opinion please.

I'm doing some portrait shots for someone which includes taking my portable studio to their house.

I'm planing on charging: £25 for the session, then prints:
6 x 4 at £4.50, 6 x 7 at £5.50 and 8 x 10 at £10.

Does this sound reasonable? Looking at the items in isolation that sounds fair to me but I know they'll probably want to order 10 - 15 prints so the price will add up. I don't want to loose out but also don't want to kill the golden goose.

What do you think?

Sam

Sam - What are you giving them the pics in? If it is a cardboard mount then I would say the price needs to go up. If its plastic wallets, have you priced for them. Remember everything needs to be priced. And your studio lights etc will burn out at some time, so have you got something in to replace them.

£25 for the session sounds a bit low - how many hours will it take you to go there, set up, shoot, go home again, process the prints, etc.? What does that make your hourly rate?

I charge £120 for a session which includes £50 of print vouchers, anything less and it wasn't really worth while.

Remember that Venture will charge them from £250 to £400 per print.

Oh grief you've all told me what I didn't want to hear....

I obviously need a serious rethink of my pricing structure. I guess like all these things when you don't do it to pay the mortgage it's mentally hard to justify a proper price.

Thanks ever so much for your advice everyone. Really appriecated.

Sam
