Yep they are real, but if you look at the size of the plastic examples on the advert, they are quite big, but I bet they are tiny on the front of the magazine, missleading advertising if I ever saw it!

Some weeks there are big insects and others there are small. Two sizes of plastic mould is used, depending on the size of the insect.

When I was a kid, (early 70's) you could buy a kit with moulds, liquid plastic, and hardener. You mix the liquid plastic stuff with the hardener, pour into the mould, add in some decoration, in this case a dead insect, being careful not to get any air bubbles. Then wait something like 24 hrs to harden, and release from the mould.

yeah but i mean removing the plastic from the insect, wonder if its possible

Just a word of warning about purchasing this magazine............

When it came out the first time round I bought this for my son. Some insects were great other weren't or were a bit samey (Have at least 3 or 4 scopions, all different kinds, but look similar). Some would have air bubbles, some too many air bubbles.

My local newsagent only ordered it in to order, so was obligated to buy whatever the amount of airbubbles in the mould. Not sure if somehere like WH Smith have a few copies on the shelf each month so you can sieve through and pick the one with the best quality mould

Every so often you get a plastic display case to display the moulds, once full it does look pretty impressive, but it didn't take long before my son managed to crack it almost in two.

I would say not, they are encased.

Think the toy from the 70s was called PlastIcraft?

I agree, trying to brak out the insect from the mould would probably be impossible without damaging the carcass.

PlastIcraft ring a bell.

probally wont get it then
i was thinking about it if i could have removed the insects from the mould but i may just get the first issue as its only 99p

So it wasn't for your lad then!

I presume shed loads of time, patience and a dremel it could be done

I'm gonna try this
