Yes
And your flipping card reader doesn't work

So have to wait another 3 days for one to come off eBay until you can view your photos on the PC !

Have you got a usb lead for the camera? Can plug camera straight in and leave card in camera. It is slower but might be a short term fix.

You cant plug the camera into the PC and access them that way?

It didn't come with one, but I had a multi-card reader at home so didn't bother me

Only the one fitting I need in my muticard reader (CF) is bust and won't work

So had to order a new one :(

Check your card reader, or any other peripheral devices. Often they will use the same USB connector - I know one of my card readers uses the same lead as my canon camera.

Nah I live in the middle of the moors

Nearest thing to me is a little Nisa

And you mean to say that Nisa don't stock one? How rude ;o)

Hope you get it sorted soon

A good way to screw up your card is to use a card reader. Better to use a cable connection, which is why they include it in the pack. If you don't have one, buy one.
I have learned the hard way, having recently destroyed a 64Gb card in a so-called multi-card reader. Pulling cards in and out of cameras should be kept to a minimum.

A lot of people disagree with this statement but its all I have done since I got the camera's. I only take the card out to replace with a new/empty one. ok a bit slower download from the camera but I have never had a card break or a pin get bent in the camera from using this method.

As with film, enjoy the anticipation of the wait. :)

I've always preferred the convenience of simply plugging in a USB lead, and there is never that annoying moment when you realise you have taken the camera on a trip and forgotten to replace the card!

You will get a lot of disagreement on this one.

The problem is not use of a card reader, it is low quality products that do not fit cards properly (or cards made of poor materials). Spend £20 or so on a decent card reader (such as a lexar pro) and you will not have that problem.

Then again, A lot of people use multiple memory cards and using the camera lead is pretty useless in this situation.

As a Sony SLT owner with a Mac a card reader is my only option, my camera has very little interest in connecting to my Mac via USB!

Well I found a USB cable that fits my camera, but my laptop has decided not to recognise my camera and repeatedly fail to download the drivers for it, and unfortuantely canon online does not offer downloads of driver software for the 350d, so I'm back to waiting for my card reader to come

What windows version are you on?

Edit, try changing the communication parameter in camera from PC to Print/PTP

A camera should not need a "driver" to simply access the filesystem via usb.

I think some cameras have more that one "usb mode" so its a matter of selecting the right one in the menu.

Well, 5 DSLRs over 11 years, god knows how many card changes, I've never once downloaded from the camera. And surprisingly I've never bent a pin broke a card or wrecked a file.

So forgive me for finding this the most bizarre post of the week.

Wow, all these replies and no-one has offered to send you a USB lead? If it's a mini-USB you need I have a few spare and can post it today - might be quicker than waiting for the card reader.

Well, we all know that it's hard to match-up to your frequently expressed perfection! :-))

I can't help it! I'm just gifted I guess :)

Or maybe the manufacturers of the cards designed a brilliantly usable product, perfectly capable of the job they designed it for?

Given my wife's opinion of me and all my faults, I'd guess the second option.

It's good to know somebody can put up with you!:)

That's why Proper Photographers always carry spare Cards - I have 4 x 16Gb's

I use the slot on my Laptop ( in built card reader) I also have a couple of spare card readers in my Lowepro rucksack, I mean they are cheap enough

Never used the USB cable to be honest

Les
