I have just taken my 95 reg convertible in to the garage for the rear window replacing and the car had to be inspected for any damage and marked on a sheet to prove they didnt cause it when I collect, the trained assessor kept looking at me and after he finished the check and hadnt found even a slight scratch anywhere he asked me if it was a private plate on the car as no 95 car could be in such good condition inside and out, he asked me twice if I was sure of the actual year
He also got two more technicians to have a look as he didnt believe me that it was a genuine 95 M reg SAAB.
Then the manager who made the first inspection before Christmas came over and explaind that before it goes for the glass replacing he has to check to see if its the bonded/stitched one or the clipped window, if its the clipped one they have to order the glass specially from the USA at a cost of £1850 just for the actual part and then theres the shipping and export tax so in all the window will cost around £2500 to buy and fit, on the other hand if its the stitched/ bonded one then its a new roof from SAAB at a cost of £3500 plus fitting, at this point I was wondering if they were getting ready to tell me the car was going to be a write off if it had the wrong type of window, when Rob the manager said he had been in touch with my insurance and told them on his first inspection "just how mint this car is" and so the insurance company have aske for them to do their best to fit a new window first and if this cant be done they have the go ahead to fit the new hood instead and all this has cost me is my £75 glass excess and because its a glass claim my NCB remains unaffected.............NIG insurance.........top guys:thumbs:

Thanks Ian .......... just so long as I dont get a phone call saying its been involved in an accident lol

I'd still think it would be better if they wrote it off, gave you a couple of grand and let you keep the salvage. Then you could spend £350 on a secondhand hood and put the rest towards a D3

...........how can I break into the garage tonight and destroy it:thinking::lol:

I kept reading waiting for the pitfall to appear, thats one of the first decent stories i have heard with an insurance company for ages :)

Ditto to that!

Thats a great result! Dont hear many insurance stories like that!

First it was the stolen camera gear thread that surprised me with its' ending; and now this! I think this calls for a banana dance :p !

Glad it's turned out so well :).

Pete, I couldn't be happier for you, what a result. We know you had a crappy end to the year but boy is 2010 starting well for you. Long may it continue

Now the bad news..............I want my car back, the Fiesta they have loaned me is pants

I must admit to waiting for the "but" too, but it didn't arrive as they say.

Result Pete

Chuffed for you. Cracking result

Flippin Heck!! What a result! I can only echo the above shock and awe!

Nice one  what a good start to 2010!

how dare you speak ill of a fiesta!!

what year is it?

If its a mk7 (58/09), im not talking to you any more

Nah Tom its a very used 56 model and its just got no toys in it or anything, very basic but it is a courtesy car:lol:

Its a shame they couldn't give you something on a par with the Saab

I remember the days when a Ford Ka was good enough, it doesn't take much for people to think they're middle class :D

Iwas nearly in tears when the KA was led away for execution, 10 years of trouble free motoring...............BUT.........:love:the SAAB now:lol:

good stuff , just hope your insurance doesnt go up to much when you renew :bang:

My insurance are doing this as a glass claim which means according to them that it doesnt affect my NCB

yeah i saw that , i meant your premium going up , not your NCB going down which makes your premium go up , i know it shouldnt make a difference , just hope it doesnt :)

I am expecting the usual vat and inflation hike but to be honest I will stay with them no matter how much it goes up they have been superb in this claim and I am rather loyal to good companies that do bend over backwards for their customers

to be fair , it does make a difference for an insurance company to help a customer
