Following this little problem with my camera:
http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=262316
Jessops swapped the camera with a new one without any quibbles.

I think they would have sent it for a repair if the camera looked a bit shabby, so look after your gear.

The store had a refurb recently and as I walked in to the store today, I was impressed with the staff and their attention. A mass improvement from a year or so back.

My local store had a refurb, but last time I went in the young lad who just about served me was less than helpful

Good on them witn your camera and must say they did the same for me with a compact some years back

Totally OT now, nice avatar, Electric Warrior I believe and took me back to my teens for a few moments

Nice to hear a good story about Jessops, when I saw the thread title I assumed sarcasm :nono:

Steve

I've had reasons to deal with Jessops on 3 or 4 occassions recently and found them to be very helpfull and friendly.

Yes, I have to say I was pleasanlty surprised by them recently.
We bought an underwater camera, and then a couple of weeks later went on holiday with it.
Turns out, it wasn't waterproof.....
Went back to Jessops (different store to purchased one, because it is closer to home, other one was close to my wife's work)

Even though the camera was out of their 30 days no-quibble, the chap dealt with it with little argument (I went in with two photographs which demonstrated the problem quite well). He offered a brand new replacement of the item (he seemed to want us to change the colour, but accepted that we wanted the same colour), and that was that. I was expecting an argument that they had to send it away for repair.

It is nice to see something good said about Jessops.
In the past I've had very good service, and occasionally the cheapest price I could find from them. But unfortunately it can be variable and inconsistent too.

But on balance I'd hate them to disappear from the high street even if they're no longer the photography shop that they used to be.

I think they have had to recognise themselves in the retail market as a high street store, competing with the web. Stocking uncommon (not sure if that;s the right term) asscessories are no longer the thing, as this (specialised?) stuff are bought more frequently on the web probably. They seem to concentrate on the main stream side of things.... Cameras and the more high selling kind of asscessories. Can't blame them from that. Sometimes they can still be competitive with the net. Some peeps don't mind paying a littlle more if the store allows you to feel the goods, give good customer care and gives the customer confidence that faulty goods will be dealt with without any hassle. I hope this is a direction that all Jessops are going, and if so I think they have a good chance to survive as a high st retailer in this competitive market.

Now we have weekend warriors.
Seriously though, yes it is Electric Warrior. First album I ever bought and still my favourite.
