I ordered a DJI Air 2s as an upgrade to my Air 2, delivered yesterday so that when I arrived home from work it was waiting for me. And like a kid with a new toy (I'm 65  ) I eagerly unwrapped it.

b****r, it's broken.

IMG-0285.jpg

As you can see the body adjacent to the tab that locates and holds the battery in position was broken on one side and cracked on the other  :$ I assume that the box had been dropped at some point which which tried to pull the battery out of position and did the damage.

Phoned Amazon customer care, told them my problem and voila, today a new drone delivered in pristine condition. So thanks Amazon good work and credit where it's due.

I’ve had similar experiences with Amazon customer service, no arguments, no quibble, excellent (y)

I ordered something - £5 roof rack spare, wanted to return it and they just said to keep and would refund - guess costs to much to process the return. They are excellent to return stuff unlike Tredz or Hollister when you need to pay!

Shout out for John Lewis too - has a damaged screw for shelf on my bbq, where the slots to screw in still had metal on so could not screw up (only by pressing thumb and using pressure). Emailed them and had a callback, promising this would be sent. Then a call and email today to say they would be posted Tuesday... great service, unlike Homebase!!!

That is exactly why I order almost everything from Amazon. Outstanding customer service. (y)

On the other hand, I'm now on my third week of a dispute with a well-known camera dealer who won't refund me for a non-delivered item. I'll probably have to go through the small claims procedure. :banghead:

My "best" Amazon return was of some coffee pods. The old Tassimo Costa latté milk pods would punch through each other if the box was dropped just wrong and a fairly large order I placed had suffered the wrong drop at some point (I've had the same issue with an order direct from Tassimo so it wasn't an Amazon specific problem) and a significant number of packs had popped pods inside. A call to Amazon CS resulted in the whole order being replaced even after I told the very helpful woman that it was only some pods in some packs that had popped. An hour or so of rinsing the affected pods saw us with a LOT of espresso for latté and a significant number of useable milk pods too.

:plus1: For John Lewis

I had to return a faulty electronic device to them recently, in all the years I have been using Amazon, this is the first time.
So with some trepidation I started a return "claim"
It was sanctioned almost immediately, no hassle at all. I can't fault their customer service (y)

I've had similar experiences with Amazon. There are others who have good customer service as well.

I bought a table (one of those that you can use whilst sat on the sofa) from Must Have Ideas. It arrived quickly but sadly wasn't suitable. 2 days later, they emailed me to say they'd give me a full refund (inc the £3 shipping). When I asked how to return the table, they said it wasn't necessary. The refund went into my bank account the following day.

It just goes to prove there are good "people" out there (y)

Last year, I had to return a faulty food mixer (9 months after purchase). They arranged a courier to collect it the next day and the processed the refund a couple of minutes after it was collected.

A big part of the reason I order from Amazon is the returns policy and customer service, it's nothing short of excellent.

Sadly not all companies are the same, I'm currently chasing Wex for a missing lens, and it's taken 4 contacts so far to get any sort of follow up.

A big minus 1 for Logan Air, Scotland. Took me seven months to get a flight refund (n)

I think with American companies they tend to put their customers first - and our companies could learn a thing or two about customer service from them.

However, American companies can have toxic working environments and conditions - and the way they treat their staff I've heard isn't great. Amazon can and should do better in this regard but I cannot fault their service or their website. I just wouldn't ever want to work there.

Agreed. However, I think Ebay would fall under not a great one.. My girfriend works for an American company, in the drug sector. Hwoever the employee benefits and care are second to none, a million times bettert han anything I've experinced in England. Think fleible to the umteenth degree, excellent salary, one second overtime is paid double.. the list is finite!

I had a live chat with an eBay dude over a paypal thing - he was great and this was at silly hours o clock.

With eBay you really just deal with the seller - and hope they're legit.

Don't forget Amazon are not the cheapest by far, you can get better deals elsewhere . Amazon price for a Sony ECM-XYST1M Stereo Microphone =£124.65 Wex same product £99 and elsewhere So don't believe your getting a good deal cause you ain't. Other people are paying for your faulty/broken goods

My wife orders bags of dog biscuits from amazon. Every single time it turns up ripped, so she contacts them and they send another free, which is ripped, so she contacts them and they send another... which is ripped... like a never ending cycle..

On the plus side, the dogs will never run out of biscuits.

Make sure they are not mixed in with your cereal Tom :jawdrop:

I ordered an 8m telescopic pole via Amazon, and they sent a 6m unit. I used their "bot" which sent me a returns number, and they sent another one out. The only problem is that the new one arrived while I was at my local "My Hermes" point dropping the other one off.

Hermes actually delivered in the morning, when they said it was going to be PM, but it was sitting down the covered walkway in my garden, so no real issue. Almost as good as Fuji's customer service, which is pretty unbelievable compared to most other manufacturers.

Dropped an item off for a refund (Amazon) in a Next store. Chap scanned the bar code and took it no problem. I was a bit surprised to get an e-mail on the way back to the car to tell me that my refund was being processed.

As Bazza pointed out, they're not always the cheapest but sometimes are and with their customer service, any slight extra over a cheaper supplier is worth it.

And there in lies the problem, ebay used to be good years ago, but it seems that scammers abound, increasingly, and you have to be really careful these days

I usually compare prices with fleabay before buying, and 99% of the time for things I want Amazon are cheaper, even if that is the free and very fast delivery of prime.

They arranged a courier to collect it the next day
And there in lies the problem for me locally,
She did however manage to collect the day after she should have.
There is always a constant stream of complaints on the local community of the one that covers my area.
But I'm sure they aren't all as useless ...

Amazon certainly have an excellent returns policy for goods one has just purchased although it's not that easy to deal with them if something breaks after, say, six months although they do honour their returns policy when you can find the right way to return it.

It is not surprising that their returns handling is so good for newly purchased items when you consider the number of items they send out every day. If 0.1% of items are returned each day then that is still a lot of items sent out and the hassle of trying to find ways not to make it easy to return things would just not be worth it. It is much easier to just accept the return and throw the faulty item in the bin or sell it to a refurbisher in bulk. My wife used to work for Boots and they had the same returns policy. If someone came in and said they'd bought it and it didn't work they were not even asked for a receipt. One day someone came in and exchanged an item for another type with one of the shop staff and Boots didn't even sell the item they brought back, not an eye was batted, it just wasn't worth the hassle.

I must add that Wayfair deal with things in a similar way. I bought a reclining office chair from them and after a few weeks it started to creak alarmingly from somewhere inside the material on the back. I contacted them and they asked if I was able to repack it, I said I was not as the chair had been assembled and all the packaging thrown away. The sent me an email telling me to deal with the chair as I wished and returned all my money. I cut a 3 inch slit the back cover, tightened up a couple of bolts and it's been fine ever since.

So as you can see, good customer service is not confined to Amazon. In these days of social media, companies can't afford to have their reputation blackened by trying to recoup tiny amounts of money.

Yes, well that's true. Especially your last bit. Better 'deals' often mean that somewhere along the line, someone is missing out. Whether it is the kid in the sweatshop or the shop worker laid off.

The cost comes back to bite, unemployment, environmental damage, exploitation and abuse.

I found you cannot fault their customer service it is 2nd to none :)

I disagree. I always do a good search before I buy anything and very rarely do I find Amazon prices to be dearer. On the few occasions I have, by the time you've added delivery charges etc. to the other company's price it always brings it up to around the same. In addition, I won't get the customer service, instant refund or replacement that they give.

An example; I ordered something a month ago from Wilkinson Cameras (because Amazon were out of stock) and it was never delivered. It wasn't their fault, it was DPD who failed to deliver, but it took them almost three weeks before they issued a refund and I've still got to wait five days for that to clear in my account. Amazon would have sent a replacement or given a refund on the day I asked for it.

In my opinion, even if Amazon's prices were dearer, it would be worth paying a little extra for the peace of mind that you will always treated fairly.

I would much rather NOT support a big company like Amazon and would prefer to support the local. However, so very few of them offer the same level of service and I have been left out of pocket time and again because of it.

Use your local businesses or lose them! Then the big boys will have us all!

Amazon have the best customer service in the world.

Then one day someone got into my Amazon account and used £500 on my bank card i had stored on the site.

£160+ pretending to "trade in" goods and received instant gift cards from Amazon ( in my name )

Set up a 2nd name, address and phone number on my account that turned out to be an Amazon self service locker that you get a code for and just turn up and take the goods.

I contacted Amazon when i knew what was going on and it turns out they are the worse company on the planet and would not admit anything was wrong and thought i was doing it myself.

I could not even talk directly to the security team and they never even asked me any questions, my messages were being relayed to them by customer service.

It was a nightmare, Amazon have massive security holes and the criminal got away with it.

It took about 5 days of phone calls, about 20 messages to customer service complaining and several phone calls to my bank to sort out and im still not sure if it is sorted properly.

I was so upset that Amazon have been blocked from ever taking money from my bank account and i wont do business with them anymore.

Some years ago I bought a Logitech Harmony from Amazon and it died when I had had it for 10 months.
I called Logitech who agreed it was faulty but I needed to contact Amazon firstly and if they couldn't ressolve to phone back.
I called Amazon and they offered me a refund or a replacement when I expected that I would need to send it back for repair.
They emailed me a pre paid postage return label to send the old one back and the following day a new replacement was delivered.
I very much doubt other companies would have done that.
