Textures

I'm wondering what the general consensus for using textures around here is ? More specifically on portraits. Any opinions?

Sometimes they work, a lot of the time they don't, some people tend to add them to try and help a failed shot by making it more interesting (a bit like spot colour) and thats probably a bad idea then.
Personally I don't use a them a lot.

I think if they're used as an afterthought then it's harder to make them work than if you had a certain shot in mind specifically for textures.

I've seen some great use of textures on portraits and was also wondering what the consensus was. I've been experimenting and the feedback has been positive. Surely this is a good way in the digital age of distancing ourselves from uncle George and his "posh" camera or is it seen as too much extra work in the workflow?
