Someone told me it was possible to shoot tethered to a small portable DVD player, for viewing purposes, instead of using the rear screen.

Any one know if this is possible?

I doubt it as the DVD player would need all the drivers & software to suck the images off your camera.

It is possible to shoot tethered to a laptop over USB and have the images pop up on the screen a couple of seconds after you shoot them. If you're shooting a D700 the Nikon software should let you do that (though I'm Canon so not fully up to speed on Nikon kit).

Not sure if this would work, but the only way I could see how this may work is to use the Video Out on the camera, into the Video In on the DVD Player

yes you can. my dvd player has a usb port just plug and play, if no usb then plug in the vidio cable the one with red, yellow, and black leads straight to you,re tv and scroll through you,re images

edit you can also use live view if you have it
