I want to have a go at tethered shooting in the studio. I tried at home and it's working fine in EOS Utility. Problem is, the USB cable is quite short...

Any problems with using extensions, or are there proper alternatives out there...longer, curly, or whatever? What do you use?

Cheers

Wireless transmitter , but a very expensive option .

Yeah, I wondered about that. Currently I am firing the studio lights with the cable from the camera, so with that and the tether to the computer, there'll be wire everywhere!

Is there a set up for firing the lights AND being tethered wirelessly? On a 40D?

I shoot tethered up to 10 meters without any issues, just get yourself 2 x 5 meter USB extension cables (one with a booster) and away you go.

Hope this has helped

I have a 12 m USB extension lead that I bought in Maplin. Works fine for tethered shooting, I use it for timelapse shooting using my laptop.

that's the one.

We use a 5 metre usb cable for tethered shooting and there's no problem whatsoever. We did have an issue with a cheaper cable before though, so it might be a good idea to get a half decent one though!

Thankd folks...

for the studio I ended up getting a £1.50 cable from FleaBay. It works great!
I think in the next could of weeks I may get a longer, 12m cable, with repeater (active cable) and use it in the garden for birds, etc. Could be good fun. :)

Cheers
