Hi, I’ve just purchased a TetherPro cable so I can shoot into my MacBook Pro via Lightroom. I’m now wondering whether I need to purchase the TetherBoost add on & add a power source to increase stability? Does anybody know if this is really necessary as they are quite expensive. Really appreciate any advice and thank you in advance, cheers Rich
Btw I’m shooting with a Nikon D810

If the cable is under 10ft you should be fine... longer is ok w/ USB2.
I would say try it and see. And if you find you do need an active cable, buy it from somewhere else.

I bought the 4.6m USB3 Tethertools cable, and also the 5m extension. I shoot in raw so file sizes average at 40mb. Shooting lifestyle & interiors so not looking for rapid shooting but more reliability that the shots I do take faultlessly go into my laptop to view. Thanks for your advice, I will test... appreciate all comments thanks

Technically, the spec for USB3 (ports) is a max of 3m cable length, 15m with an active cable. But you're right in a range where you might not have any issues.

There isn't really anything special about the TetherTools cables other than being high visibility... and they have a much shorter warranty than some other brands that actually cost less.
