TETHER TOOLS GUARD?

Just looking to buy tether tools cable now...
I remember them having a plastic guard that screwed into the camera, I can't find this any more, the tether tool options I have found on WEX don't look good, £21 for a bit of string and magnet aint the one...
Do most people just hold the cable when they are moving around???
The cable on its own I can't imagine that stayiing in if I am flipping from landscape to portrait and moving around??
 
Do we really need 'Tether Tools' or would any other cable work??

Look at what the pics are, shows one type of minib shape on the cable but then a completely different shape in the camera..

Wouldn't the search function on their own website yield the specific model/part number?

Take your pick - your choice. I've clipped it to the camera strap lug, the camera bracket/cage, the tripod etc. Currently, I just connect it to the strap lug.

I do the same at the laptop end too - I connect it to the padlock loop or the stand. Sometimes, I don't bother as the plug would just pull out rather than tip the stand over.

I forgot to answer this - sorry. :rolleyes:

I used an ordinary USB cable for a year or two without problems. I only changed to TT when a used one came up for sale on the Evil Bay. I've since added another (same place) with a booster for longer runs.

A point worth noting, is if you have any problems - don't immediately blame a cheaper cable as mostly it's the actual USB socket that's at fault. I accidentally discovered this when I changed computers, then researched it afterwards. :facepalm:

Thanks, I ordered the TT anyway.. A lot of money for what is essentially a cable (Even if it is thicker), It's just a marginally little bit more rubber and metal so don't understand the 500% increase!

I am not selling TT accessories :) and any other brands :) I am shooting tethered very long time and I am always using TT cables. I also have one cheap from Amazon (link below) as for some jobs I need shorter one. Cheaper one is slower in file transfer from my R5 and for fast shooting on set doesn't work for me. With TT is faster. I need really fast view in Capture One. But if you are shooting slowly, you don't need immediately images on your screen, Amazon version is no bad. To hold cable in camera I am using also TT Jerk Stopper plus Canon holder. Canon isn't perfect but just do job. Generally if you will move around set it's really worth to protect your usb socket. In one studio we paid hundred pounds for fixing sockets. Also there is Mathorn on Wex which is much cheaper than TT and also very fast. I have 2m version for my table top work.
I discovered Mathorn much later after I bought TT. TT cable USB-C to USB-C is very solid, extremely reliable cable but it's VERY wooden. For now Mathorn price/speed/quality is very good choice. If you would like to say it's strange this guy has 3 different brands USB-C, cannot be true, hmmm... it's true. I like to have best for tethering. There is no knowledge about someone used so many cables as I did. In one photography studio I am using Amazon cables (not from link). They are OK, no big lag with speed (MacMini M1), but this version which they have it's short (2m) and you need to connect 2 with USB-2 heads. Looks like after short time they need to use Gorilla tape as they disconnected during work.
Big advice: find your best to protect your USB port as you will pull out cable on set many time like step on it. 50-80 pounds it's nothing comparing with changing USB port. There is Tether Block, but I didn't buy it as I found it's covering battery and you need unscrew every time when battery gone.

I have a 5m active usb cable to which I plug in the lead that came with the camera and the other end on the MacBook and seems to work fine.
