Hi All,

I'm after a favour! I've only just started in film and still pretty much a newbie in photography in general. I have recently purchased an Olympus Trip 35 (you may have seen some of my other posts about it!) and I have now finished a roll of Agfa Vista Plus iso 200 (the one from poundland) and had them processed and put on CD. Here's 3 of them:

Whilst the last one is what I pretty much expected, the first two aren't. Is this purely down to the fact they were taken in doors, at night time with the living room light on!? or is there any tinkering I should be doing with the camera itself. I am aware of lots of tutorials on this camera on the web. I have bought a set of light seals which I will be fitting as the originals seem to be nearly non-existent. what other tips can anyone give me?

As always much appreciated

Alan

Just a matter of not enough light there on the first two. Remember that the Trip only has two shutter speeds, 1/200 and 1/40. So even if you had the dial on the trip turned to 2.8 (to get the speed down to 1/40) and assuming you were shooting the Agfa at box speed there simply isn't enough light.

With my trip the film speed dial is permanently set to 400 regardless of what film is in it :)

Glad you are enjoying the camera. Be careful, you'll be hiding cameras from your significant other soon enough!

Yes, they are under-exposed, and needed flash.
The third is how it should be!
Buy an Olympus PS200 flash and the camera goes into 'Flashmatic mode' and is still auto exposure.

Camera looks like its working fine.

The first two are underexposed due to the lack of light from your lamps, they usually look very flat when the scanning software tries to recover any detail. The negative probably looks almost see through. Again the colour cast is caused by the lamp, you can probably fix this easily enough in software. Third one is a nice shot no obvious light leaks, I'm not sure I'd bother with the seals unless they're threatening to gum up the shutter.

Double Ninjaed!!!

this .......thin neg / underexposed

Thanks for the quick responses! I'm glad it's working as it should, I had a feeling it was but just a little concerned as it's all new to me.

I'm really loving my Oly Trip, I've got a nice croc skin on order to "pimp" it a little! :woot:

Does this help in all light conditions? or should I dial it down in certain conditions?

I am watching a couple of Olympus PS200 flashes on eBay...... think I'll need one..

The old light seal by the hinge has deteriorated and is flaking off, it could be in danger of crumpling inside the camera, I think I'm best changing sooner rather than later.

It's a great camera and I'm really enjoying the experience, my Canon 400d and Powershot sx150 are having a nice little rest at the moment!

Cheers for your help!

Alan

When putting the seals in, (if you do) put them in your mouth when you take the backing paper off to get them wet, (dont suck or chew!) This enables you to get the seals in the correct position without them sticking to everything they shouldn't! Leave the camera overnight to dry and the seals will be stuck!
I have done this with all my film cameras and it worked great each time.

Oh no these threads are going to cost me! I need a Trip:eek:

No, you dont NEED one, but you really, really WANT one!

Go for it, there are dozens on FeeBay, but choose wisely!

Yeah defo have a look on eBay, there are quite a few listed. Mine only cost £19.50 inc p&p, although from stories I've heard of paying £5 in charity shops it seems at the top end of the scale. Though I'm lucky it's in excellent nick! :)

Just bought a Pen S 2.8 with case for under £20 inc postage! Well chuffed as it quite rare to get a working one!
