Test Wickets in India

Not taking anything away from India - India are better with the ball and with the bat

but is there any point in playing India in India on these test wickets ............... good batting practice against spinners, but fast and medium pace bowlers just don't figure unless they are lucky

English fast bowlers seem ineffective and elsewhere in the world "spin" bowlers just do not get the wickets to bowl all day on to get the experience needed to match the Indian spinners

Win the toss and you have a chance, (for a draw), if you reach 500+ but then India come in with 500+++ and just close the match off for the visitors

I'm not complaining - but it is just becoming predictable ........ and what does anyone "learn" from such a series?

In all the years I've been watching cricket, I have not seen a more abject and humiliating defeat than England. It was perfectly dreadful.
 
It was astonishing.

Back in the 90s I remember an amazing County Championship match. Northants against Notts. Northants really needed to win to stay in contention for the championship. But Notts won the toss and batted, finished the first day at 300+ for 1, and eventually made 500+. Northants really really needed the win, and captain Allan Lamb realised that their only chance was to bat big, and to bat fast. So they went for it. They piled up 700+, declared on the last morning, and bowled Notts out for an innings win.

I thought I'd never see anything like it again. I was wrong.

And then they come here and we skittle everyone because they can't deal with the swing and seam, it works both ways. Jimmy isn't our leading test wicket taker for no reason.

The hassle as I see it is that uncompetitive test cricket will see the death of it sooner rather than later.
 
I have played cricket at a reasonable level, and I know that we would select a team for away matches, with the knowledge that they would prepare a certain wicket for their key bowlers, and we would do the same for home matches. We prepared a green top for our bowlers (because we had three or four seamers), but then we struggled to field two genuine spinners for the away games.

what seemed to be obvious to many commentators did not seem to be obvious to the cricket selectors? ......... but hindsight is a marvellous thing

Not only did England not win ...... but they did not seem to know how not to loose against the Indians when they had a chance to do so............ so it was not just a bowling problem

will anything happen to face this realisation ........ I do not think appointing Root as captain will solve this situation, albeit he is a very good player and surrounded by a few of his Yorkshire colleagues

There was definitely not the same application from the England batsmen compared to the Indians. Historically, India have always had at least one top drawer batsmen in their side, but the strike rate of Nair (79.53 per 100 balls) in his big innings was something else.
