Just having a play with a new web site design for my personal photos. I am interested in how the pictures look on various monitors too dark/light and the download times are they are acceptable. I would like to keep the images as large as possible to maximise impact, but are they too large, do they fit on screen. Also are the index, left, right and home buttons easy to use.

Only a few images are on some pages and some links at present are not working

The link is http://www.virtually-unlimited.co.uk/index.html

Grateful for comments on the above.

personaly there is a few things that need to be tweeked

the categories need to be dropped by a little bit to line up with the the images once you go past your home page

the home page itself has a few small problems

the main pic needs to be a little smaller or movwed away from the text to the left #

the home page and index title at bottom are the same thing when a webpage s built the home page title when bewen built is always index.html so index could be removed as it will take you to the same place

if you liek this deisgn this is a few things i would tweak

not all your images have been uploaded into the correct image folder so they are not showing
i would persoanlly move the home page to above the titles on the left as it is not easy to find ie looking all over people want a quick click solution in thee face or they will close it and go to another site

Many thanks for looking and for the suggestions. Will have a look at these. Out of interest which images were not working as I have checked them and they all seem ok and would you keep the scrolling next and previous icons bottom right or move them in line with the menu on the left.

A small point that you may want to consider...... not all you site visitors will be conversent with latin, so you may want to think about changing avian and flora to birds and flowers

and may be even change fungi to "mushrooms and toadstools", although fungi is a bit more of a universally well known term

None of the 'flora' images are showing - they are probably working for you as the links are referencing the local files on your PC I'm guessing

Also:

  • the menu structure is a bit confusing - there are top level links for 'Dartmoor Landcapes' and 'Landscapes' - would make more sense for the Dartmoor link to be a subcategory/menu of Landscapes.

  • the arrow graphic link on the flora page (and most of the other pages) is returning a 404 page not found error: http://www.virtually-unlimited.co.uk/flora2.html

  • the 'home' link is positioned at the bottom right of the screen - this could be confusing as the convention is to have it top left.

  • the 'home' link doesn't actually link to the site's home page, 'index' does.

Thanks all for the comments, just what was needed. Some of the links and images are not in place yet. Did not want to go too far before checking the test layout. Will implement the changes and tidy up dead links before I add further images and set the page up for general consumption.

Hi Jez

Did consider a sub menu but I have a lot more images of Dartmoor than landscapes in general and thought it might be odd if the main sub menu had far more images in it than the main landscape page. Will probably change the link from Dartmoor Landscapes to just Dartmoor, then I can add some of my other images taken there.
