Yes
I just wanted some quick 6x4 photos done and thought I'd use the Tesco 1 hour service as there is one just down the road from me. Not thinking, I added all the photos from one folder which contained the images from a group shoot I had been to.

When I got there I was told that some couldn't be printed and I saw this sticker on my photos -

P1010011.jpg

Now I can understand this because there were some artistic nude photos in there, but nothing was pornographic and they couldn't even print the topless ones. I could walk about 10 feet and they sell newspapers with topless women in them!

I was just wondering where other people on here get their photos printed when you need to print out anything that might be classed as 'obsean' to the operators of the print machine. Or do you just print them out yourself?

Phil

Go to DSCL for mine, never had a problem.

I had the same issue with Boots a few years back with similar content. It's pathetic as there is nothing illegal or pornographic about your content. It's a matter of taste and even though they might have a policy against it, I still find it odd that they would refuse to print it. What are they trying to censor or prevent?

In any event if in doubt use a decent dedicated printer who wouldn't have such childish issues regarding the content. Or print them yourself.

Shame they can't spell either

When I used to work for Kodaks main processing centre in Reading I was allowed to print anything that didn't involve children or animals in compromising situations. It was mostly naked grannies unfortunately

id ask to have a word with a supervisor to clarify their policy. i cant see anything on their website in the photo service t&c's regarding photo content..

edit - actually it does state:

You agree not to send us any images which may be objectionable

whatever that means. sounds highly subjective as to whos operating the printer to me. either way id be tempted to kick up a fuss.

should have asked what they mean by obsean and what does he have to do with your images.

Well that's the way thing's are now days, you will have to find a printing firm that do this sort of work as you will get the same response from the high street printer's as you have from Tesco's.

I'v always printed my own so not had the problem, you could try the ad's in the camera mag's..;)

Don't pick on the ones who have to enforce the policy- they may only be a 16 year old saturday girl etc. Aim your venom at those that create the rule i.e. get a Manager to explain.

"Idiots" is too harsh & does nothing for the thread

I had to wait for about 5 minutes while the guy there phoned up a helpline and then just said that I would have to ring them to get any kind of refund as it was done over the internet. For the sake of about £2 I'll leave it and they've lost a customer

I'll have a look at DSCL, looked before but as I was used to using Tesco as it was local, I never ordered from them

Thanks for the input guys

Phil

I'd have more faith in the judgement of someone who could actually spell in the first place... "obsean" = obscene

You are much better off using the likes of Sams, Loxley, DSCL in terms of quality (and sometimes cost). To prove a point, I would go back and see the manager and get him to explain why they are obscene and where in the T&C it says they cannot be printed.

The fact they sell the Sun or Loaded os irrelevant. You can have sex at 16, become a parent at 16 (legally) but not buy a porn mag?

I just used ALDIprint for for artistic nude Lencarta shoot. 34p for 12x8 prints down to 5p for 6x4 prints and 100 FREE 6x4 prints with your first order. The quality is better than Tesco and I found it good enough to use for my brother's wedding.

Had the same issues with Costco a few years back with film, when i handed the film over i said they contain page3 type shots and was it ok to **** they said yes
After about a hour i went to collect my photos and was told by the same person that the store manager would like to speak to me,An amercan getleman approached me and said that he had two copies of the film made so he could send them to the states so he could find out what the polices were on glamour photography,I stood my ground and objected, after some argument i pointed out that the USA made more money in the adult film industry than Holywood he stepped down a bit gave me the 2 coppies. As i walked out a member of Cosco staff was reading the sun news paper, nuff said

Damn them, I got rumbled but not to worry as I can walk about 10 feet and buy newspapers with topless women in them!

I was just wondering where other people on here get their photos printed because the print quality of newspapers just isn't good enough?

Probably best going to the online only printers as the high street ones always seem to be a bit fussy.

Sometimes the people at these stores are just plain stupid though. Not too long ago I went into Asda with Melissa who was 18 at the time and she picked up a DVD that was "PG". When she got to the check out she was asked for ID! She said she was 18 and it was PG. The woman said it meant parental guidance so she has to be 18 I was standing at the next till and said I'm her parent and your wrong but its ok. They still refused to sell it her. I asked if she looked 12 they said yes. I then pointed out that PG is lower than 12 in the ratings but still no. I then had to buy it but I told her that she was totally ignorant, she didn't like it but so what!

Once again, thanks for your input.

I was mainly looking for your suggestions as to where to get them printed in future, and have been given some suggestions that I will look into.

Thanks
Phil

I went and brought a carving knife from the cook shop and they asked for ID to prove I was over 18, I pointed out that I was 56 years old, grey and looked over 60 but she would not sell it to me untill ID was shown.

Went to Focus do-it-all and got a stanley knife job sorted..:)

I was 17 once upon a time, and tried to buy one of the Bond films on video (yea.. long time ago), which happened to be a 12. Needless to say, WHSmith refused to sell it to me.

Was half expecting the next line to be

Then I sliced her earhole off :)

post a link to what kind of images you were wanting to get printed

Actually, I have just realised that Tesco developed the film that I used at the Lencarta nude session. They didn't say anything to me.

should be fine to get those printed at DSCL etc

Yeah, think I'll make an order with them and see how it goes. I've heard them mentioned in pretty much every thread in regards to where to get prints, so must be decent.

I work for Tesco as a customer service manager and have to defend our policy.
As a national company who offer a photo service we have to have defiend rules for everyone.
As a photographer you are quiet likely to have photos of a topless model and would expect us to develop your photos for you.
However our staff have no idea that your photos are any different from someone taking topless pics of someone who might not in the light of day want our staff or others to see her topless.
I sugest this type of photo should be taken to a specialist photographic printer not a supermarket.

why do you? there's as much logic as there is in your policy to refuse to serve people in motorcylce helmets, but happy to serve people in hijab's

in which case I expect you to refuse to print any pictures with anyone in because they may object

I agree, why bother with small minded petty managers and companies
