Tesco Develop and scan.

I put a roll of film into the local Tesco yesterday - develop and scan. Collected this pm. When I put the disc into the 'puter it did not offer the usual options but seems to have a basic software editing system already on the disc. I am currently using Picasa.

Does anybody know a work-round for this? I want to continue with Picasa for now and partly because I am getting used to it. I assume for those using Photoshop there is a work-round? I'll have a word in Tesco but just thought I'd ask here first.

Cant you just import the jpeg files into your computer. I just had some done today at Tesco's Twickenham and there's no editing system on it.
 
when you put the disk in.... "Explore" it not open it.
You should be able to find the "file" of pictures that you can then open in what ever you like.

Nick, I put the disc in, the comp reads and opens up with pics and this editing system. How do I get round this?

Terry, (local I see), I don't know what you mean, could you be more specific?
 
I asume you're on a PC so when you put your disc in open it through "My Computer" and "Explore" rather than just clicking on it and letting the PC choose how it opens your file. Then you should be able drag your jpeg files onto your hard drive. Hope that helps.
 
Thanks Nick. I tried your suggestion (as much as I understand it) but all that happens is that it starts to play this bloody programme.

I phoned Tesco this am - what a dreadful experience. It made speaking to BT look relatively easy:razz:

On the third call I decided just to press a number, and at every menu stop there is the usual drivel about wishing "to provide the best customer experience":gag:except of course I had been trying for 10 mins and not managed to speak to anyone.

Anyway, taking pot-luck I opted for groceries on-line. This did not go down well:D at the other end. I gritted my teeth and tried to explain. "Oh, you need photos on-line," except this is not a menu option and hence going round in circles. "I'll try to find the number."

I am then given another number to ring. "Photos on-line" did not have a clue what I was on about and I was advised to go back to the store.

Well I've been with Asda for about a year, and before that Tesco but never used their program once, but I can't see your problem....just close the Tesco program and bring up windows explorer and you will see all the jpgs in a directory, copy the dir to you hard drive and when you click on the dir, all your pictures will be shown...that is in Win7.
 
Thanks Brian. Unfortunately I do not understand what you suggest. If I close the Tesco programme the pictures disappear. My IT skills are poor and advice which offers a solution commensurate with the poster's knowledge has to be watered down sufficiently for me to understand.

I shall go back to Tesco and ask for the negs to be scanned to disc only. That's all I want and all I thought I was getting. I did not ask for their editing programme and it's not like Tesco to give something away for nowt.

As it stands I've got a disc that is unusable to me - good job it was only a test film.
 
Ok then, in win7.....go to the start button....click on all programs.....click on accessories...then click on windows explorer.......that will bring up windows file\directory or windows call it "folder" information...then you can see what is on the CD and copy.
 
instead of double clicking on the CD icon on My Computer, right click and select Open/Explore instead of Autoplay
 
Your computers cd is set to autorun. you might want to google "disable cd autorun". But for now.

Close the tesco's program.

Right click the cd icon on your desktop.

Select explore from the menu the right click gave you.

That gives you a traditional windows explorer view of the disk. Your scans will be in a folder on there somewhere. You may find more then one set of images, some highstreet scanning services give multiple copies, sizes and formats. Look for the biggest versions.
 
If you still can't work it out ...you could bring the disk to me in Greenfield, and I could show you. I could even burn a new disk with out the tesco extras from it.

Once again thank you all for your efforts, unfortunately none of them work.

I have just returned from Tesco (Huddersfield Rd). They played the disc and expressed surprise. They were unaware that this software was automatically included on "develop and scan" cd's.

The advise was broadly in line with the above. Hlens I tried your suggestion. No matter which way I go once I reach:

My Computer - Devices with Removable Storage - and then click on the cd it simply opens as it would had I just installed. When I try to save it gives the message: error, unable to open file.

Once I locate the cd on my computer I hit a wall. I want to move the images to Picasa but have no idea how to proceed.

So now I am faced with a return trip to Tesco. This time I want my money back. Asda next and if they are as bad it will have to be Spielman's. At least their scanned cd's allow me to import directly to Picasa.

What happens if you right click it?

You should get option to open it rather than autoplay ?
 
Update.

I have just spent 40 minutes on the 'phone to Tesco technical staff. The guy was superb, the guy previous to him at Tesco photos on-line was hopeless.The technical guy (Johnathan?) sorted it and then talked me through it. Here goes:

Load disc > My computer/click > find cd (pictures that is) > right click > explore = file / what's on the cd. click on 'images.' This brings up a randomly no. folder > click = image files > click on a sort of thumbnail icon in the header bar > thumbnails - this opens / displays the pictures.

Now 'ctrl and a' on the keyboard and this hi-lites said images. Go to EDIT and then click copy - minimise - go to pictures folder (start > documents > my pics)

Now it is File > new > Folder. At this stage all the pics stored in My Pics will come up along with a 'new folder.' Click on 'new folder' and rename. Click on the background and this SAVES.

Double click on the file/folder then go to Edit and click paste.

Open up Picasa and the pictures will be imported into Picasa.


Now how easy was that?!!!!!!!!!!! :bang: :bonk:

But many thanks to all who tried to help a duffer like me.
 
It always disappoints me that the last thing new PC users learn about is Windows Explorer. This (IMHO) should be the first thing one learns to use as its fundamental in understanding the structure of the file system and is an extremely useful tool for disc housekeeping.

Having to struggle without a knowledge that Explorer even exists, make the job twice as difficult.

Still, you got it sorted eventually.

I've conducted my life for years via Windows Explorer, but can't imagine that it still exists in Windows 8. Does it? I'd be amazed.

The next best method of accessing concealed material that I can think of is to get hold of an old hand-cranked laundry mangle (with rubber-clad rollers), and put the cd through it to squeeze the images out. Trouble is, it blurs them a bit ...
 
Yeah, windows 8 desktop is much the same as 7 (clunky and bloated) but everything is still there.

If the mangle fails an hour in low concentration rodinal should get an image.
