terry pratchett.

IanC have you read Good Omens?

Tis indeed Staggerlee.

lololz I hoped I might catch you out ;)

lol :) i had read all the discworld books and saw quite a few others that werent and thought what the hell ill give them a go too lol some were more for kids but i still read em (suited my mental age a bit too lol)

The Carpet People
The Dark Side of the Sun
Strata
Good Omens

And all the discworld books but this latest one ;)

Pre-ordered my copy (of Making Money) from Amazon back in August. Due to incredible muppetry (not helped by the Postie strikes I suspect) had to chase it after it failed to materialise 10 days after dispatch only to find out it was 'undeliverable' and it had been sent back for a refund. Not a happy bunny :(

Asda you say? £9 you say? :D

yup. £9. have you read his early ( kids allegedly) books. truckers, diggers and wings?johny and the bomb(made a tv version of that), johny and the dead ?. the non disc world stuff is a good read too. strata is another one if i remember right.
i,m actualy saving up for another tattoo. a swamp dragon called errol, from a TP. book illustrated by josh kirby , who did most of the artwork.
oh and the art of the discworld is worth a lend from the library too.

I am a huge Pratchett fan - I have all of his books upstairs on my bookcases.

I haven't read Making Money yet though, I'd borrowed some books off a friend that I had to read first, just got the last bloodbowl book to read and then I'm back onto Discworld.

As an aside? what are people's favourites from the Discworld series?

For me I like everything with the guards in it, I just love Sgt Detritus *don't salute!*

I also love anything with Nanny Ogg in it, she has such an uncomplicated view of the world and her postcards home in Witches Abroad were fantastic

Have read most if not all of his earlier stuff inlcuding truckers etc :)

yup. £9.

Ta for the heads up - picked a copy up as soon as Asda opened :geek:

I've read all the Discworld series and have some of the spin-off illustrated books (Art of Discworld, The Last Hero etc). Didn't get on much with Strata or whatsit but will have to give them another go.

Just enough time for a cuppa before continuing on page 203

My wife and I are big fans of TP's also. I first started reading his Discworld books back in '94 whilst off work following an operation. Since then I've bought and read them all as well as Good Omens (several times), The Amazing Maurice and a couple of other non-Discworld novels. :)

My wife is an even bigger fan. She started reading them before me and has read everything by him, both Discworld and non Discworld related.

My favourite series would have to be the Watch books and my absolute favourite book is Nightwatch. I also love reading anything with the Witches or Tiffany Aching & the Nac Mac Feegles in and would rate Lords & Ladies as my second favourite by him.

As an even further aside (so to speak) does anyone else here have any of the Clarecraft or Cunning Artificer collectables? We were lucky enough to get all the Watch characters, the Witches (seated) and a few other favourites before Clarecraft sadly went out of business :(

Thoroughly enjoyed Making Money btw. Looking forward to the sequel!:D

Just a thought, but did anyone else go to any of the Clarecraft Discworld Events held down in Suffolk?

Read it on holiday last week (twice), a good Moist book! ;)

Favourites wise I'd agree that anything with the Watch in it, although I always love the appearances of Death in any of the books, such a great character.

Spoiler: It seems there will be a third "Moist" book, with him taking over the role as tax inspector (should be a laugh).

Going Postal, as an audiobook read by Tony Robinson has to be my favourite of all time.
Got most of the others as books and audio too :)

I've been to two of them. Got a lot of my books signed, camped over with some mates, got very drunk, laughed and sang along with the naff bands they have. Cheap and cheerful weekend but don't expect quality entertainment or facilities ;)

Although I did pick up a first issue Good Omens and got terry to sign it. Just got to get Neil to do the same and it'll be worth a fortune :)

I Bought "making money" as an audio book. I have a mix of audios and paperbacks in my Pratchett collection which is pretty much the only fiction I have read since I was bought "going postal" a couple of christmas' ago. Making money is good but I was a little dissapointed as it doesnt have the pace and depth that going postal has, and I was looking forward to the next escapade of Moist von Lipwig. Still, anoter good read. I guess my favourite is a tie between going postal, night watch and reaper man.

Any of the Witches Books, the first one I read back in the mid 90's was Wyrd Sisters and it still remains amongst my favourites. Also the Death books probably just about top the pile - really enjoyed the Hogfather on TV last year, though I still prefer reading [or listening to audio versions] to watching.
Finally, I really enjoyed Going Postal too..... and if I am honest, have never yet managed to make it to the end of small gods, dunno why, just can't get into that one book. :bonk:

Ladylens, took me 4 goes but finally got to the end of Small Gods, know what you mean, that is the only 1 I didn't really like or get into

Ok, I just had a mad idea... feel free to tell me to shut up, but...how about a thread with pictures representing discworld titles?

Yes, I know its mad!! I just saw a picture of a Postman looking at a pillar box like it was an alien, and the thought occured to me....

...I am going to lie down in a darkened room now. :coat:

I once tried to shoot the scene from the front cover of Thud using the Thud playing pieces and gave up!

Watch this space though as I'm putting together the props for a couple of images that will tie in really well with one of the books :)
