My Tokina 12-24 and canon 400D combination is making incredibly sharp images that I am really amazed with! Only had it a week but really excited by the results, which are very obviously sharp even on the camera's LCD screen when reviewing images.
The problem is my Canon 28-135 IS just doesnt compere. It's a very versatile lens but the sharpness just doesnt compete with the Tokina, its probably around 4 years old (i bought it 2nd hand a 6 months ago) and is in very good condition but the IS is starting to make a very very slight grinding noise, only when using at 135mm for long periods (aparently quite common with early IS lenses). There is also the usual dust on the lens and the filter. And the filter itself is only a standard hoya, not as good as my hoya s-hmc on my tokina.
Would I benefit from having the lens cleaned, can i do it myself? I really have no experience of this. Or is the sad truth just that the 28-135 is no where close to the tokina for sharpness? Should the difference be night and day? Perhaps I shoudl take pictures with the filter on and off to see if that is part of the problem
Cheers!
